The Shark Deck. Thank you one to five. I am Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. Tom Papa wrote a guest piece in Men’s Health that really is speaking to me. I have shared this indie Facebook group Daily Comedy News podcast group, but I have college aged children and Tom Papa is more or less my age, and Tom wrote, when you have children, the first thing more Seasons parents tell you is that it all goes by really fast.

The amount of times that somebody told me that, yeah, absolutely, and I now pass that along when I do the same thing. I don’t know what it is, but you see somebody else with a four year old and you’re like, it goes quick. Pop writes. They tell you to cherish every moment because it’ll be over way before you know it. What they don’t tell you is that this incredibly fast bead is caused by your family dragging you into a black hole by your nick Time before kids is leisurely.

After dating, falling in love, and seeing a bunch of movies together, you and your partner come up with the idea of making some new people reproduction and is not all that complicated, So before you know it, a kid enters into your world, and for a brief moment, all time stops. However, as soon as that millisecond is over, this person you made pulls you into a void where space and time are twisted and mangled. You experience the entirety of life. You’re ripped out and disassembled. You were then put back together and spit out on the other end as an older, worn out simulation of yourself.

High from the basement, you are still you, but for some reason, your pants don’t quite fit. Tom nail This, he writes, My iPhone tells a detailed story of a life I’ve supposedly lived. There are pictures of visits to petting zoos, farmers’ markets and museums. We ate cotton candy, ice cream, cones, and bags of kettle corn. I recently saw a picture of us from a trip to Disney.

There I was standing next to Goofy MoU’s ears on my head and a smile on my face. I have one hand on a stroller and another holding a churo. I don’t remember any of it. There were dance recitals, choir concerts, birthday parties, and pets. My family says we owned.

We hiked up mountains eight and diners, played in ball pits. We decorated for the holidays, and an endless loop Halloween skeletons before sant up, before Easter eggs rolled out of the way to make room for the Fourth of July, and all the while these beautiful miracle peace board growing up. He’s got a few more paragraphs there, Like I said, I shared it in the Facebook group, and he ends with, so, yes, enjoy every minute and take a lot of pictures. Are we all teared up? Now?

Yes we are. It’s okay, you could admit it. Rolling Stone talked to Roywood Junior the topic Hasan Minhaj, possible next host of The Daily Show. Rolling Stone said, the thing with Hassan that struck me as different is that the jokes that stretch the truth or were outright lies were the ones that painted him as the victim or the hero because he was being targeted for his race. Roywood Junior just said, correct.

There was a follow up question and then Roy said a lot of what Hassan did put him at the center of things, which gave the appearance that he’s self centered. And so when you take a brand like The Daily Show, the question becomes with someone who views himself as that within their personal stand up, can you trust them to not do that as the host of a news program. My thing is that during the time Hassan was telling all these lies, he was hosting Patriot Act, and there was nothing in Patriot Act that pointed to that. The question of whether or not Hassan can concurrently do whatever the hell it is that he’s doing on stage and host an honest and true news program has already been answered. Wow, not pulling punches there, Roywood Junior Rolling Stone.

The New Yorker story had Hassan airing doctored hate sweets aimed at him in Patriot Act. Roywood said, oh geez, back to the self centered stuff. It’s about him, then we can question it. But if it’s about the world, I think there’s a way through that. I don’t agree with the comparisons to Jesse Smollead or Steve ran as easy and Bill Mark comparing him to Trump in the sense that it’s a lie to manipulate the opinions of others.

Here’s a bigger question. As it was originally told to me, the host of the Daily Show was supposed to be announced in June. The strike hit they can’t announce it. If the strike never happened and they named Hassan, would this be enough for Comedy Central to take the job away from him. I personally don’t think they would have.

I had missed this, Rolling Stone said.

Also buried in the New Yorker story was that Hassan had reached a workplace m…

I had missed that, Roywood Junior said. But the workplace harassment stuff with Hassan was already documented in public knowledge, and Comedy Central was still considering him for the job. So that tells you how much they thought about that part of his backstory. I don’t think they would have taken the job. But is it enough to keep them from giving him the job?

It looks like it a little lighter. They asked him about the way Trevor Noah left the Daily Show. He basically announced he was quitting and then stepped out with dua Lipa, an incredible flex, says Rolling Stone. Roy Wood Junior laughed and said, I’m gonna quit, and then I’m gonna go host the Grammys, and then I’m going to date pop stars. God bless him.

The man got to quit, his employer sent him home sooner than he planned, and he walked right into a jet to a global comedy tour. He and I talk every now and then, and he’s definitely happy. So in that regard, I’m happy for him. I think he left at the right time in hindsight. So that’s interesting too.

Right, let’s back up there. The man got to quit and his employer sent him home sooner than he had planned. Was that a situation where Trevor was like, Hey, I’m gonna leave in six months and they’re like, why don’t you leave now? Interesting? Right, there’s still a lot from this article.

I’ll do more of it tomorrow. The eight hundred pound Gerrilla was talking about Sean Patton, a fantastic comedian who should be on your radar, and they wrote for a long time, Sean Patton found himself in this exact space, emerging in the twenty tens as a thoughtful and wild comic who bridged the gap between Ian Carmel and Sam Morrell. Patton was viewed as ex between traditional and alternative comedy spheres and release three albums before landing a special number one. It might not be a perfect model, but a success is a promising blueprint of hope for every middle class comic putting money together to self tape their own hour in between sets at Little Field or Dynasty Typewriter. One of the first things viewer might take notice of is the runtime.

Matten tends to go long in his work, but it’s not due to a bulk of excess. Rather, he situates himself in context of the stories he tells and draws focus, pulling the crowd in while standing still. We’re prowling it wildly to accentuate the point of his wit. The folks at Camp Times were enjoying the Judge John Hodgman tour. Hodgman says, we have three segments in the show.

There’s the Court of Judge John Hodgman. Then we have swift Justice, where we hear three cases in quick succession with a buzzer or timer. Now we have a segment which we call mob justice, where we turn up the house lights and people in the audience can raise their hands and shout out their arguments, whether the people who brought them, where the people that they brought, or even people aren’t even there that they don’t know and they’re being accused arguments and disputes of the sort we really like. What’s the best way to rid your house of I’m curious about that. Let’s google that.

I love Google autocomplete. So far I’ve typed in best way too our I and the autocomplete is best way to ripen peaches, avocanos, tomatoes.

All right, let’s see best way to get rid of roaches, belly fat, house of flea…

But now I’m gonna type in bats. Today’s homeowner has how to get rid of bats in your home. Five tips. Don’t act like you you don’t caring, don’t act like you’re like good back to the comedy you’re interested. Number one close entry points that won’t get rid of the bats, that will trap the bats inside.

That’s terrible advice. Install a bat cone. Now you’re wondering what a bat cone is. Perhaps it’s what your favorite superhero gets from Carvel. No, come on, that was pretty good.

A bat cone allows bats to squeeze out of your attic, but not into the space. Essentially, it’s a one way door for bats to exit. See that’s good advice. Bat Cones are relatively affordable. I’m told typically between twenty and forty bucks.

Install bright outdoor lights. Not only will that add curb appeal to your home, it also acts as a natural bat repellent. But that’s not getting the bats out. They’re already in. This article’s terrible.

I want to get rid of the bats. Don’t tell me how to keep bats away. They’re already in the house. I want to get rid of them. Use a sound machine.

Now we’re talking. Bats prefer to be at peace when resting. That’s why using a sound machine that gives off an ultrasonic sound will disrupt their piece. How to identify bats, Okay, identifying a bat, especially in the dark at night, could be challenging. Here’s how you can help identify a bat.

Number one, webbed wings, yes, Number two often black or brown in color. Often what other colors do bats come in? Three? Face looks small, similar to a small dog. So in case you’re like, I think it’s a bird, No, it seems to have web wings at a face like a chihuahua.

It is a bat. For wings band can be anywhere between six inches to five feet long and five sporadic flying compared to birds. Where were we you’re talking about? To Judge John Hodgman tour. His co host Jesse Thorn said, I built the format of the show, and in my mind, the most important element of the comedy was the conflict.

The higher of the stakes of the conflict were, even if it was a low stakes conflict to begin with, the funnier the show would be. The more belligerent John and I were, the funnier the show would be. And I was wrong about that. In fact, what the show is about is people who care about each other finding resolution in their conflict, and that resolution isn’t about who’s right and who’s wrong. I could imagine a situation where you’ve been friends with your roommate for a couple of years and you move out and you want to leave your bed behind full day, and then your roommate’s like a jerk and says, the bed pays rent.

This is a thing that happened to some friends of mine. I’m agnostic. You guys work it out, but that would have been a good one for Judge John Hodgman. Judge does the bed pay rent? I’d be curious what you guys think.

Go on the Facebook group and just answer that question. Does the bed pay rent? So Here’s a scenario. You’ve moved out, but your bed’s still there. You’re going to get the bed in the day or two, but it’s still there.

Does the bed pay rent for the two days? Where’s your friend being annoying? Facebook group? Daily Company News podcast grew one listener right now has a big smile on his face. Co host Jesse Thorn said, people are essentially there to talk about why they care about each other.

This is all over the place today, Johnny Mac. Joan Rivers apparently secretly battled believe me for much of her adult life, according to a new biography. According to her biographer Leslie Bennett’s, who published The Life, Loves, Losses and Liberation of Joan Rivers, Leslie claimed that Joan Rivers was constantly grappling with her figure. While other famous faces said her low self esteem contributed to her becoming a characterture of herself. Leslie said Joan was always incredibly paranoid about her weight, and she was bolimic for a lot of her adult life.

Jerry Shippard said, back when Joan started stand up, you started looking your age. You didn’t get booked. Really made Joan Rivers obsessed with the way she looked, because Joan had to deal with fear, and she dealt with insecurities. When you go in and start thinking, oh my gosh, there’s something wrong with me. I’ve got too many chins, my nose is too wide, you can get addicted.

Nicky Glazer chimed in and said, that’s the dark side of comedy. There’s a chronical life self esteem in every good comedian, and it doesn’t go away no matter how successful you are. Joan Rivers had said, my motto is better a new face coming out of an old car than an old face coming out of a new car. Spend your money on you. The Shark Deck. Hello, I’m Jennie Mack with your Daily Comedy News. In the second half of the podcast, I’m going to tell you about a benefits show. Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, RUnni Chang, Jim Gaffig, and Jerry Seinfeld were on the list. But as I mentioned yesterday, if you missed you yesterday, I’m going to handle all the Israel stuff after the break every day.

I don’t want to ignore the topic. But this is not a political show, and I know you come for the comedy, so I’m gonna do that stuff in the second half. But you just heard me say, Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, Ronny Chieng, Jim Gaffig, and Jerry Seinfeld some big hitters there. I’ve also got some Kevin Hart news for you in a second. But first quick look.

At late Night, they were joking about the president’s trip to Israel. Seth Meyers, I love this one. President Biden arrived in Israel, making him the first president to visit Israel during a time of war, which is pretty dangerous. But he should be okay once he makes it down the stairs. I love it.

Jimmy Kimball said, Biden and Israel go way back. You know how Moses parted the Red Sea. Joe was the guy that dared him to do it. Stephen Colbert, I hope you feel better, buddy. He’s got COVID and they’ve wiped out the shows for the week.

No late show this week. By the way, Tomorrow’s podcast is really good. It came out really well. Is today’s any good? Johnny Mac?

I think so based on the topics, but I haven’t actually recorded it yet, so I don’t know. Let’s check back in fifteen minutes. You could tell me. Chris Rock and Kevin Hart. They appear together in the new Netflix documentary Kevin Hart and Chris Rock Headliners Only.

This will be on Netflix December twelfth. Official press release tells us this is a story about two separate journeys that somehow align and end up at the same intersection. At the top, audiences will get to follow the two comedians as they prepare for an unforgettable week of four sold out shows in New York. I kind of forgot that happened, so I’m not sure that that unforgettable is good, but I’m like I forgot along the way. Rock and Heart share first hand accounts of the struggles on triumphs they face before their respective colossal successes, placing their bond and brotherhood on full display.

Let’s listen. This is a story about two separate journeys but somehow aligne and end up at the same end. Section at the top said, why don’t we do something to get them? What do you think about doing New York? I’m excited about this week, not just because of the arena factor.

I’m so tired to hang out with you. That’s that’s, that’s it. Kevin Hart and Chris Rock Headliners Only Netflix, December twelfth. Jada Pinkett Smith can’t get Chris Rock out of her mouth. I’m getting very bored with this, Jada, like really really bored with it.

But I’ll talk about it. It’s shiny and it’ll get me downloads. In Jada Pinkett Smith’s new book Worthy, she shares her thoughts about Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage Special. Jada writes, what do you say if someone decides to make a comedy special full of lies and unwarranted insults? You love them as God does, and you say to yourself when people hurt, that it could be that they believe they will feel better if they lash out.

Can I honestly say I’ve never been there? The answer is no, and that’s where compassion and well wishing come in. She also said that Chris Rock had quote hurt my feelings in the past, and quote although I wanted to hold on to my resentments, I’d learned that that would hurt me more than him. She has that Chris Rock deserves my concern and my consideration, despite how he may decide to drag me on stages. That’s his issue, not mine.

From spirit to spirit, he is my brother. Trevor Noah’s new podcast is called What Now with Trevor Noah. It’ll be out November ninth. Spotify is producing it, but they’re going to make it available everywhere. Thank goodness, because I really like it.

Trevor Noah, And you know I stopped listening to Rogan. I don’t use the Spotify app. Sorry, you want me to use the app? Buy some ads Spotify. This sentence right now could either be a commercial for Spotify or for a deodorant company.

I like money. The official press release tells us Trevor Noah’s a new weekly podcast, will feature Trevor Noah having in depth conversations with people from a wide array of backgrounds, including entertainers, CEOs. Do we really want to hear? CEO’s name is CEO? You want to hear?

Who? Do you want to hear? Elon Heytes? Trevor Noah, the guy that runs I don’t know Chevrolet? Do you want to hear that?

I know, actors, athletes, and thought leaders. Trevor Noah, in a statement said, we’ll also probably fix every single issue humankind has ever faced. See you definitely want to join us for every episode. Pitchfork has a really interesting article. It is called John Mulaney on the Music That Made Him.

The comedian talks about the songs and albums that have soundtracked his life five years at a time. I’m going to pick away at this for the next week, except for this weekend, because maybe perhaps I’ve already per recorded the weekend. You know what I’m saying, and I have shared it in the Facebook group. Please feel encouraged to join us in the Facebook group unless you’re a porn bot. The porn bots keep posting lately, and the people in the group have been really good about taking those down.

So if you’re a listener and you’re in the group. Thank you so much for flagging those. This morning I was out for run I got a message that somebody had flagged. Its just the pornbots are annoying, So if you’re not a porn bot Facebook group, Daily Comedy News podcast group, and I’ve shared this article from Pitchfork about John mlleniy on the music that made him. Let’s take a look at one of the songs from five year old John Mulaney.

He was into the Pointer Sisters Neutron Dance. What exactly m’lani said. My preferences really started at five. Suddenly I was like, I have a style and I’m sticking to it. I really liked wearing ties at five.

I have my hands in my pockets and photos like I’m proudly admiring a factory floor. I remember wearing my Superman pajamas underneath a shirt and tie so that I could rip it open, love it. My parents had a Pointer Sister’s tape in our car breakout. We played it all the time. Beyond Jump, which was the hit of the car.

Neutron Dance had this driving energy to it that I really dug. My dad is a very formal, buttoned up law abiding guy, but when Neutron Dance came on, he would just drive faster and faster and faster. We were on a country road. Once he was pulled over while Neutron Dance was blasting. The guy was like, do you know how fast you were going?

My dad was like, I got a station wagon full of kids. No. The cop says, you were going ninety miles an hour, and my mom said, shoot, but that was the power of the music. Neutron Dance had some kind of spell on him. But I’m curious about this story a little bit.

The Pointer Sisters in the Age doesn’t make sense to me, So let me do some live detective work here, John Mlaney parents. I’ve discovered Charles W. Mlaney Junior is John Mulaney’s father, and I’ve googled him and added the word age. All right, mulaney Junior was born in nineteen forty nine. Neutron Dance was a hit in nineteen eighty three, so all right, let’s do some lazy math there.

Nineteen forty nine is like nineteen fifty. At thirty three was a thirty three year old dad driving around listening to the Pointer Sisters. I guess maybe I guess I was just trying to picture my own parents. I’m about one of my battle like fourteen years older than millennial old’s millennia these days, Laney’s forty one. I’m fifty four, so I’m thirteen years older.

I’m struggling a picture of my parents, who would have been approximately thirteen years older than the millenie’s parents listening to the Pointer sisters. But I totally digress. Get back to the show. Johnny Mac Okay, Ken Jung is getting his own talk show for some reason, I will editorialize. Some suits at the company said, Ken is one of a handful of people in the world who has what it takes to succeed as a talk show host, and we’re excited to be in business with him.

Audiences connect with Ken on many levels, not only because he is so talented, entertaining, and unapologetically hilarious, with their senses that he’s sincere, compassionate, fearless, friendly, just genuinely nice, all essential ingredients that make for long term success as a talk show host. The show will be syndicated premiere sometime next year. It is unclear to me if this is a daytime talk show or are they going to go in a late night I don’t see this working, but what do I know. Let’s take another look at that really good interview with Roywood Junior that Rolling Stone did. Rolling Stone said, you killed your guest hosting audition and the White House Correspondence dinner, and you’ve put your time in on the show.

Do you feel like you’ve been treated fairly in the casting process? Do you think you deserved the job? And did you do everything you could to get it? Roy would, not pulling punches, said I don’t feel like that. To quote the Wire, deserve got nothing to do with it.

They said Trevor didn’t deserve it, and he proved everybody wrong. The network’s going to do what’s best for them, and I respect that. My job is to be as good as possible so that if somebody else needs a quarterback, they know what I can do. There’s also a world where I can create my own expansion team. The thing that I’m grateful for is that I don’t ever need to question if I can do that job, because it’s a lot to sit in that chair.

It’s given me a great deal of confidence to prep my host week and prep the White House correspondents Dinner concurrently, and when I was hosting the Daily Show, I was still out to midnight at comedy clubs prepping the Correspondent’s dinner set. I’ve never looked at the chair as anything that I deserve. I got eight years of as Runny Chang calls it, the best job in comedy, as weird as it sounds, and thankful because now everybody knows I can do the thing, and there are many channels. Rolling Stone pointed out you have emerged as the people’s champ for Daily Show host. Roy said, the love online has been very kind, very dope, very genuine.

It’s weird when people are angrier than you are about something, but it’s very touching that people appreciate what I do enough to voice an opinion about it. Some people will come up and say, man, I go do your thing, and others will come up and they’re like almost in mourning, like if I posted about my dog dying or something. I’m fine, I’m thankful I had a job for eight years. That’s an excellent run. Rolling Stone said, I wanted to ask you about that New Yorker piece about Hasan Minhaj.

Roy said, I hope The lesson that Hassan learns is that for people, the line where you can embellish is seemingly a little more vague. It may have been clear to him, but for a lot of people it’s like, Nope, you did something that made me feel something. When you stretch the truth for the sake of laughter, it’s one thing. But when you do it for the sake of feeling, that’s when people start taking offense. I understand the integrity issue that people are bringing up with regard to us Son and a stand up.

Do I think that things happen within a stand up to make him incapable of being a daily show host? I think it’d still be a perfectly fine host and a perfectly fine candidate toasts the daily show. There’s a gang of people who are never going to forgive him for what he’s done, and I think that goes against the whole concept of forgiveness. Comedy centrals between a rock and a hard place. If a San was the front runner, there’s a lot of atonement that would probably have to happen with regard to him.

To a degree, this whole thing is like taking a comedian’s jokes and flipping them over to read the nutritional facts. It’s like when you find out that orange juice you were drinking is only ten percent juice and you’re infuriated, But you’ve been drinking it for years, So why is it an issue now? More from that tomorrow. Michael Costa is guest hosting The Daily Show this week, and he made a great point about Congressman McHenry, who is the acting Speaker of the House. And I like what Costa did here.

He said, Congressman McHenry is perfect for the job because he’s already there. Sometimes you just gotta go for the guy who’s already sitting in the chair. Why keep looking. He’s not messing up, He’s maybe even crushing it. Some people are saying, love that.

Next week, Jesus nice, the week after Sarah Silverman, then Leslie Jones. I will be curious to see if the Sarah Silverman week actually happens. Why do you say that, Johnny Mac. You’ll find out after the break. Yes, I left you on a Sarah Silverman teaser that is coming up in sequence.

Real quick. I saw a headline. The headline read quote. Critically acclaimed comedian Adam Sandler announced his performance in Omaha this winter, and my brain froze because I saw critically acclaimed comedian Adam Sandler. Now, Adam Sandler clearly successful, makes a lot of money, has a lot of hit movies, even though some people with podcasts in their basement think most of his movies are garbage.

Clearly he is successful, sells out arenas movie star, has more money than anybody, well not anybody, but you know what I mean, rich guy. He’s doing well. Is he critically acclaimed? I don’t think so. I see very few reviews that say Adam Sandler is brilliant, but he’s popular, He’s successful.

From The Hollowod Reporter Wednesday Night’s Very Good Plus Night of Comedy benefit for Jessica Seinfeld’s Good Plus Foundation featured sets from listen to this lineup, Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, Ronny Chieng, Jim Gaffickin and Jerry Seinfeld that my Friends is called calling in the Favors. At the beginning of the show, Jessica Seinfeld said, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians and Gaza and Israel. That got applause from a packed audience in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, Jessica said, to quote the great Pete Davidson, sometimes comedy is an helpful way through tragedy. Amy Schumer set joked about the challenges of being a woman, her TV watching habits, and how she had once been attached to the Barbie movie. She spoke about growing up Jewish and joked that some of the inherent problems with the word used to describe her religion, including that the word has ew in it and the uncertain sounding Ish.

Halfway through his set, Amy said she was gonna work really hard on this last week, and then something happened. Deannance shared a nervous laugh. Ronny Chieng followed Amy. He joked about his experience helping his wife freeze her eggs, marveling at how he had been entrusted to administer the injections she needed. Jim Gaffigan up next.

He spoke about life as a father of five kids, whore either teenagers are about to become teenagers Kevin Hart quote who insisted he couldn’t say no to Jerry Seinfeld unquote, hmm, let’s call calling it the favors. Nothing wrong with that. I would call in some favors. I’ve called in some favors on this show. Kevin Hart recounted the accident that recently landed him in a wheelchair and how he went on a gorilla trek with his family in Rwanda.

Jerry Seinfeld closed the night. He joked about his lack of enjoyment on vacation, his marriage, and his upcoming Pops Hearts movie. George Old tells this. Anglo Iranian comedian Oma Jillilly had to cancel a gig last night because of personal threats due to the situation in Israel. The venue released a statement on social media saying the show was dropped because increased personal threats over the Israel Hamas war.

The original post was then replaced with one saying only that the show was asked quote due to circumstances beyond our control. That’s like not even trying. That’s like one of those phrases that you’ve heard since you were four years old, and just go, yeah, circumstances beyond our control. Jeli had been posting about the situation on Twitter, calling for a ceasefire and speaking out about hate crimes directed at both Jewish and Palestinian people. The local police said no threat had been reported over the Gigjlily is scheduled to tour Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland next week.

Sarah Silverman is facing some backlash for her post on Instagram supporting Israel. Sarah wrote, many are saying that it’s inhumane that Israel is cutting off water slash electricity to Gaza. Israel made it pretty simple, release the hostages and we’ll turn it back on. Instead of pleading with Hamaster released civilian hostages, which include babies and toddlers. There are politicians cough cough aoc calling Israel inhumane.

That received some comments. One person wrote, Sarah silver Men really said, well, maybe those children shouldn’t have voted for Hamas if they wanted water. Awkward Seguay Time comedian Tim Robinson brings vegan coney dogs to Los Angeles. Boy, John, you made that as smooth as heck, Yes I did. Michigan’s owned Tim Robinson teaming up with Planned Power Fast Food.

What they’re going to do is at the Hollywood location, they will sell vegan coney dogs for seven ninety five profits from the vegan dogs, and also they’re selling hats and t shirts will benefit the nonprofit group Youth Climate Save. A press release says the limited menu item, sold Saturday through November, explains that coney dogs with chili, yellow mustard, and white onions are so popular around Michigan that they’re served at weddings, parties, and even funerals in the Midwest and beyond.

And now you can get vegan coney dogs for seven ninety five in Hollywood from …

Which is a real thing. Sounds like I’m doing a bit. No, this is a real thing. Local officials will dedicate a North Carolina Highway historical marker honoring influential comedian Moms Mabley today five o’clock. That’s at Clemson Plaza in Brevard.

Don’t act like you don’t know where that is, and don’t act like you think I said it wrong. Probably did. It’s in North Carolina. Apparently at the Clemson Plaza there’s a Mayberry’s Soup and sandwiches. John.

You’re not going to click on a menu and read us some menu, are you? No? I won’t do that today, but I’m going to do it over the weekend to Hornian events. A retrospective of Moms Maybley’s life will follow at the Mary C. Jenkins Community and Cultural Center.

Born in eighteen ninety four, Jackie Moms Maybley Aiken often took inspiration from her hometown and began entertaining at local church fundraisers at the encouragement of her grandmother. She left town in her teens and joined Black Vaudeville Theater Owners Booking Association, where she took the stage name she would use to perform for black audiences across the country. Considered by many to be the first female African American standup comedian, Maybley’s career spanned six decades. Dressed in her trademark cap, mismatched house coat, oversized shoes, and toothless smile, the Mom’s Maybley character was a frumpy grandmother lee figure that appealed to a broad audience with her captivating storytelling while challenging scidal norms. In the sixties and seventies, the character became known to a wider audience, recording more than twenty comedy albums, performing at larger quote unquote white venues, and appearing in film and on TV shows like The Smothers Brothers and Ed Sullivan Show.

In addition to the highway marker. They’re working on a larger than life statue of the mom’s Maybley character that would be created for display outside the Mary C. Jenkins Center. That’s awesome, Tina Hashim. We’ll have a stand up special on Amazon Prime Video to be out November tenth.

It is called The Dark Little Whispers, Executive produced by Sam Morrell. She discusses everything from death threats to existential dilemmas to relationship problems, quiet people, and her upbringing as a first generation Arab American. Let’s listen to the trailer. My dad left when I was very young. If you see a woman holding a microphone, her dad is gone.

I might have problems too. In fact, clap if you’re a straight white man right now, please clap if you thank you? Yeah? Did it feel nice to be heard? Right?

You know, we don’t hear enough about the bigotray against quiet people. We just need more voices raised about it because we can’t do it ourselves. That is pretty good. November tenth on Amazon. Another one coming to Amazon Trevor Wallace terot Actyl.

This one now on November fourteenth. The press release tells us, you know Wallace from the relatable characters he’s unleashed across the Internet, which have been massed billions of views, and his first stand up special, he introduces you to the real life characters he’s come to face to face with as he navigates male birth control, smoking, oregano, his unique Birds and the Bees Talk experience, his first BUCkies, The Red Flags of Dating, and The Worst Thing You Could Ever Order on a Date. Wallace was voted as a finalist in the Best in Comedy twenty twenty Shorty Awards. Trevor Wallace terot Actyl, Amazon, November fourteenth, I Don’t Have a Trailer for You. Tim Mentioned is celebrating fifty years of the Sydney Opera House.

He has a new song and is called Play It’s Safe. Play It’s Safe is making fun of all the people who said that the Opera House was going to be a disaster. The song includes audio clips of commentators criticizing the iconic building as being a waste of taxpayer’s money. Lyrics include people like the rules is written, so just give them more the same and if you want to go the distance, find the path of least resistance and just take it. Vulture is doing their twenty five comedians you should know.

Nimesh Patel did not give long answers at all. They asked him what unscripted reality show would you be good at? He just said cops as an innocent criminal. All right, what have you learned about your own joke writing process? He said, I learned to keep my writing secret secret.

All right, you don’t want to play, we won’t play. Natasha Vainblatt has her new album is called We’re All Dads Here. That’s out today on a Special Things Records. It was recorded live a union hall in Brooklyn. Her set tells us about the dangers of coffee hmmm, the relationship between rats and restaurant ratings, the magic of the New York City Subway, self defense characters, and her experiences with Russian culture and curious traditions.

She’s been a staff writer on Fallon and is the co creator and star of Comedy Central’s original series Your Worst Fears Confirmed. And Bert Young, you know him as Polly from the Rocky Movies, he passed away. His actual date of death was October eighth, but his daughter confirmed it to The New York Times. Bert Young was eighty three. This is nothing to do with comedy.

But I did get to meet Bert Young. It’s probably a full twenty years ago. He was doing a demo for a radio show. Nice guy kind of like Paully in real life, had that low energy, mumbley kind of vibe. When I saw he was eighty three, I was honestly surprised because it was twenty years ago when I met him.

Like he was sixty three. When I met him, he felt eighty three. Then. I don’t mean that as a dig, but if you do the math, if he was eighty three in twenty twenty three, that means he’s like only like forty three in Rocky three, and it means he’s like in his mid thirties in the original Rocky. Born in Queens in nineteen forty, Bert Young joined the Marines before he turned sixteen.

There he began boxing. After leaving the Marines, he enjoyed a brief professional boxing career, even went up against Muhammad Ali in a charity exhibition match. Nice guy nothing to do with comedy, But why not end a comedy podcast with death, which I seem to do three times a week. Now that’s your comedy needs for today. Oh my goodness, I just looked at the raw edit. Boy, this was a long one today, huh. I hope you enjoyed it. To see tomorrow

The Shark Deck. Thank you audiences of five people. Hi, and my air name is Johnny Mac, and this is Daily Comedy News. President Biden headed off to Israel. Jimmy Kimmel ast wasn’t sending an eighty year old on a dangerous mission across the globe?

The plot of the last Indiana Jones movie, And I’m not sure that went great. Michael Costa, hosting The Daily Show this week, had some good ones. He pointed out, Biden is eighty years old, so he did get to the airport two days ago. And let’s be honest, Biden doing anything pretty much puts him in harm’s way. A rocket strike is dangerous, but so’s a bicycle.

Cost again, I bet he can cool things down, because if there’s one thing Biden’s good at, it’s cooling things down, whether it’s a war, heated rhetoric or voter enthusiasm. All right, now that I’ve ticked off half of you, let’s tick off the other side. A judge imposed a limited gag order on President Trump on Monday. Michael Costa again said, good luck getting Trump to stop talking. The guy’s probably still spilling national secrets just out on the golf course, like should I go with a four iron or a five iron?

That reminds me four and five those are the first two numbers of the nuclear codes. Guess what numbers come next? You’ll never guess. I’ll just tell you. Kimmell went with Trump’s lawyers said Trump had no intention of intimidating any witnesses or court staff, including the judge.

You know, the one that lives at twenty seven forty seven maple View Lane, white Nissan CenTra parked outside. Stephen Colbert has COVID again. He did the show from home on Monday. Tuesday. There was no show Wednesday.

I don’t know what happened. I don’t record this after eleven thirty at night, I go to bed. Bad Bunny will host and be the musical guest on SNL this week, but looking ahead to the twenty eighth, Natepergasy and the Foo Fighters so awesome musical guest and Nateperghansy now big enough to host SNL. Very interesting. Pete Holmes has a Netflix special next week.

I didn’t know this was coming. I was so excited when I saw it. It is called Pete Holmes. I am not for everyone. The trailer is out.

Let’s take a quick listen. I knew I was in trouble during the lockdown because I went back to eating cool ranch Doritos. That’s the right response. It’s a perfect chip told you to be a quick listen at home. I Am not for everyone.

On Netflix, October twenty fourth, a really really good interview with Roy Wood Junior and Rolling Stone. I have shared that in the Facebook group. Please feel encouraged to join the Facebook group. It is called Daily Comedy News Podcast Group. They asked Roy how the writers strike changed his view of the industry.

Very interesting. Roy said. People said content is king, but now I think audience is king, and the ones who will find an audience will be more in control of their fate. Hello from the basement. I feel you.

People used to say you’re talented, let’s find you an audience, but now you’re expected to have an audience. Ze Way is a great example from a couple of years ago. A lot of what became Zea’s show was because she built an audience for herself, and then showtime came. The Pat McAfee deal with ESPN is a very telling sign. He essentially started a podcast, found an audience, and then ESPN said, that’s a nice audience you have.

We can bring them over here. The writer strike forced a lot of people into looking at what can I do in the meantime until my job comes back, and I think a lot of people are going to discover they’re happier doing other things than their all job. Hello again from the basement. Yes, Roy continued, said, you can tell me whatever you want to tell me about late night. But if CBS has chosen to replace their twelve thirty show with something cheaper, that says something doesn’t mean that at midnight isn’t entertaining, but it means the networks are looking for cheaper ways to engage people in the same medium.

The thing that’s dangerous for late night is that the cheaper they’re gonna make their late night, the more affordable you’re making it for regular people to compete in the space. The audience numbers are already starting to approach that in terms of YouTube versus streaming. I spent some time the summer thinking what would I want to do in the space, what would actually get green lit, and of what would be green lit, what can I actually do myself? He asked him about stepping away from his job as a correspondent on The Daily Show, wherey Woo Junior said, think of it like football. The job of the correspondent is the wide receiver and the host is the quarterback.

And I don’t know that I’m going to be chosen as host than if I’m not chosen a host, I don’t know if the new host A will want me or B is running an offense that fits me as a wide receiver. There’s a world where I still get offered the show, and there’s a world where I get offered something else. But I just know to figure out what I want to do next, just as a contingency to cover my own hat. I can’t do that while I’m doing my job as correspondent with disrespect the job of correspondent. Pointed question here do they tell you that you didn’t get the Daily Show hosting chob His answer, When I saw the Hassan Minhah stuff out, I think it was pretty clear that Hassan was the front runner.

I haven’t heard that it’s sure Hassan. All I’ve heard is that they’re still deciding a really good interview. I’ll do more of it on Friday and Saturday. As for the Daily Show hosting job, Yeah, don’t. I don’t think they can give it to Hassan now right, the whole thing.

I get its comedy news, but like John Stewart did kind of create this era of authority that Trevor continued. And I think if you have a guy up there that did something similar in a stand up special that was kind of made up, I’m not sure that’s going to work for the Daily Show. Collider asked, do we even want a Seinfeld reunion? Good point, I’m gonna say no. And what’s weird is I actually had a dream last night about the Seinfeld reunion, and in my dreams version of the reunion, they had the four characters in separate plots as if they had shot it during COVID and the episode did not work in dreamland, but Colyide writes, what happens or the Seinfeld four now out of ailing back to living their sad, single lives as if nothing ever happened.

Do we want Jerry and George at the diner complaining about their love lives in their sixties? Do we give everyone a family and kids? To do so? Would almost be a betrayal of their characters. If anyone seemed destined to be alone forever.

It’s them. There’s also the question of where Seinfeld would return to the days of monstrous ratings are over. Streaming options and cable have made it impossible for tens of millions to watch the same show at the same time. Would a Seinfeld reunion end up on Peacock or Netflix, becoming something we know binge alone on our phones rather than a shared cultural moment that feels sad and small for something that was so big. Yes, that’s a good point.

Vulture caught up with the creators of the New New Fraser good interview with showrunners Joe Christali and Chris Harris. Apparently, Kelsey Grammer had been wanting to reboot Fraser since twenty eighteen. The showrunners say one of the priorities was getting David Hyde Piers back to play Niles. In that version, New New Fraser would have been about the brothers owning a black box theater. When David Hydeiers decided not to do it, they started over.

Says he’s not the bad guy in this and he was so lovely about it, and that gave them a chance to start over. They decided for Fraser for both his professional world and personal relationships. It feels like it’s a time for Fraser to be giving back. Christallie said, Kelsey told us Fraser never really had a good friend and we should find him one. On Cheers, he was the one on the outside looking in all those people on Fraser.

He had Niles, but that’s a brother. Kelsey wanted a relationship with an old friend that he could go back and forth with in a way that’s different and distinct from Niles. As soon as you see Alan interact with Fraser, he’s a completely different version of anything we’ve seen as a foil for a while. Chris Harris said, we went through many incarnations. The university was in some versions and not in other versions, and there was a theater in one of them.

It felt like, what’s giving meaning in this next stage of life? Christolli said, Yeah, it was hard for Fraser Niles to run the theater when you don’t have Niles, so we had to step back from that. Cameil nan Gianni will co star with Sam Rockwell in the upcoming dark comedy A Guy Walks into a Bar. In A Guy Walks into a Bar, A mild mannered new father played I come oil on. Gianni befriends a charismatic yet mysterious man played by Sam Rockwell at a bar and soon suspects him of concealing a troubling secret.

All right, Ryan Reynolds was remembering Robin Williams last week. Ryan accepted the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award the other night. On Instagram, Ryan shared some photos from the event and caption did I miss Robin Williams? Pretty sure everyone does. His kids have turned his legacy into a living, breathing love letter for good.

It was a crazy honor to receive the Robin Williams Legacy Award last week at the annual Bring Change to Mind gala in New York City. More Robin Williams from Vice TV’s Dark Side of Comedy. Friends of Robin are saying close to his death that Robin wasn’t recognizing them. Comedian Stephen Pearl said, the last time I saw Robin Williams, I hadn’t seen him for a few months, and he was thin, and he didn’t recognize my wife. He hardly said a word.

It took him the second to recognized me. I go, WHOA, something’s wrong here? I didn’t know what nobody would really tell me, and then I never saw him again after that. Rick Overton said the exchanges in text were becoming more abbreviated, order sentences, all good, all lovely. It was just everything was shortening.

I knew there was a change. William’s best friend of forty two years, actor Stanley Wilson, said occasionally he would repeat things in a phone. Quality had said that was really unusual. The Zo Report caught up with otsgo at Cotsko, who’s having a moment. Otsko talked about her new look and said, I’m trying to do an Otsco three point zero and my new two earth my new look.

It is the full Grown tour. It kicked off in Honolulu on September twenty ninth. Otsco said, I’m trying to push how much more I can go for an avant garde look. Bigger shoulders, more shapes, stuff that still allows me to move around a lot. If I could, I would wear clothes that are not easy to move in because it looks so fun.

I want even bigger shapes and maybe something dragging on the floor, but I have to tone it down so I don’t fall on trip and have to stop the show because I’m going to the emergency room. And this article mentions the Deodoran Company again. Boy, they are getting their money’s worth with Otsco, except I haven’t said the name of the deodorant once. Have I know? Call me Deodoran Company.

I’ll sell the whole thing. Daily Comedy, He’s brought to you by Deodoran Company. Every third story it could be about deodor I like money. Osco practices her routine at home in her planned outfit that to develop the physical comedy, troubleshoot any hazards and stay comfortable, Osco says in my messaging with comedy and also the way I dress, it’s all spreading joy and a sense of embracing who you are, being your weird self. Love it great attitude.

This February, the Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame will induct somebody, but there’s a vote. Some of the people up for your vote Jim Carrey, Eugene Levy, Martin Schwort, but also the entire cast of SCTV as well as Canadian comics Steve Smith and Avira Kurt. Who’s in the Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame. You’re wondering well, I’ll tell you. Some of the people are John Candy, Norm MacDonald, Lorne Michaels, Catherine O’Hara, Phil Hartman, Leslie Nielsen, Dan Ackroyd and Michael J.

Fox. The mission statement of the Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame is to celebrate, promote, and preserve Canadian achievements in comedy. Truth is our British, American and Indigenous influences combined with a mosaic of culture expression to form a worldview that career. It’s not only a unique Canadian take on the world, but a take the world can laugh at. Besides, it’s cold for six months and you have to do something keep warm.

So let me take a quick time out here. I’m recording this after I put the whole podcast together. In the next section here, I’m going to discuss Israel through a comedic lens. This is not a political show. And I saw a couple articles that were pretty interesting and I want to share them.

And I keep thinking about the different styles of comedy. Yes, you can do Steven Wright Mitch Hedberg style one liners, and then you can be George Carlin Layton’s career and make very political observations through the lens of comedy, and I think the Forum of comedy is a great place to exchange ideas. So you’re about to hear me tell you a story from a comedian, Bassim Yusef, who was on with Piers Morgan. It gets very, very pointed. I hope it doesn’t chase you away.

But my spirit here is not to ignore a major topic. And I know that the late night shows are also struggling with this, but you know, we saw this after nine to eleven as well, and there are things you just can ignore, so we’ll take a look at them through the comedy lens. Let’s jump back into the tape, but again I’ll pre warn you some of this bassm use Of stuff is quite pointed, and I’m going to deliberately read most of it verbatim and flat so that I’m not putting any kind of spin on it. I’m just trying to report on the comedy news. All right, let me take a sip of my coffee.

Here. Here it is. I have decided that this will be the point in the podcast where I will discuss Israel. We’re gonna get a little serious here for a second, but everything I share with you does have jokes around it. By the way, Amy Schumer is posting a lot on her Instagram.

I want to stay on the comedy side of things. This is not a political show. But I’m looking here. I just went on instagram dot com slash Amy Schumer. She has several long statements here.

She talked about the poor six year old who was killed in Chicago. You’d have to go back at least twelve posts before. Amy was on a different topic, clearly an important topic. So Egyptian comedian Bossem Usef was on with Peers Morgan. I saw a lot of clips on this on the internet as I was putting the show together today, Usef said his wife’s relative’s house was bombed in Gaza.

Usef remarked sarcastically, I’m going to read it verbatim, and I’m going to read it neutral. It’s very repetitive. We are used to that. It’s just like those Palestinians are very dramatic. Oh, Israel’s killing us, but they never die.

They always come back. They are very difficult to kill. I know because I’m married to one. I tried many times, couldn’t kill. I tried to get to her many times.

What she uses our kids as human shields. I can never take her out. Yousef said all that with a straight face. Earlier on Piers Morgan’s show, Ben Shapiro had said, and I’ll quote it verbatim, the only solution to the Israel Gaza conflict is that Israel should annex Gaza and kill as many people so that what’s happening does not happen. Again.

Usef’s comment on that, I’ll read it verbatim and flat quote. More than thirty five hundred people have so far been killed. How many more people do we need to kill? So that Ben Shapiro was Yousef took on the Israeli military said again, I will read it flat and verbatim. I applaud Israel for doing something no military force in the world does it warns civilians before bombing them.

That is so cute. I asked my wife’s family if Hamas forced them to stay home so they could be bombed and could be used as a human shield, and she denied. A whiler, you’re switching topics. The ten Thousand Laughs Comedy Festival was last week, and The Star Tribune took a look at some comedians that they think could be big in the future. The Star Tribune wrote, the real thrill for comedy geeks is the chance to discover talents on the verge of blowing up.

Here are five without standing potential. They picked Jordan Jensen out of New York. They enjoyed her taping of her podcast being Eaten with Jordan with Ian fid Ants, and they wrote the pair have a brother sister, Vibe, although I’m not sure how many siblings swap sex tales and such graphic to tell. Don’t be surprised if Jensen is routinely filling theaters this time next year. Dan mince on their list now supposedly Dan Mintz voices Tina Belcher on Bob’s Birth Yeah, they fell for this hoax.

Two questions if you’re a new listener. One, have you ever seen Bob’s Burgers? The answers no too. Have you ever met anyone who’s seen Bob’s Burgers. I know you’ve seen promos for it.

I know you hear Kevin Burkhardt promoting it during football games. So have you ever actually seen the show? No? Fox just puts up a test pattern claiming to be Bob’s Burgers. They know we’re all watching football Dan Mintz follows on the footsteps of Steven Wright, delivering a steady stream of brilliant one liners that rely heavily on wordplay and impeccable timing.

One joke, I want to die surrounded by family, but when I’m not around family, I feel fine. They also enjoyed Salma Zaki and Jerry Hemti Zaki, a Denver based comic who mine laughs out of getting a Deui Hamedi shared clever observations about growing up Iranian in the Midwest, and Kelsey Cook made the list, and The Star Tribune says Cook has such a girl next door delivery that her filthy material can come across like children’s bedtime stories. Vulture as the twenty five Comedians You Should Know or whatever it’s called. One of them Katrina Cook, and they asked Katrina what she’s learned about her own joke writing process. Katrina said, I moved through material quickly, sometimes a little too quickly.

I get sick of hearing myself say the same thing, so I try to start with newer material and switch things up with stories that pop into my head when I hear the other comics go up. Makes it feel more natural and conversational for me to mildly tailor my set to what’s already been discussed or not discussed a show. They asked Katrina about her unpopular comedy opinions, What Hill Will You Die On? Katrina said, you can wear shorts on stage. Climate change is real and performers should be allowed to adapt.

I heard John Cena pushes for wardrobe to let him wear shorts because they’re more comfortable for his massive calves. I think comedians should be allowed similar performative freedoms. Best comedy advice, worst comedy advice? Best? Are they paying you?

A comedian? I love and respect? Overheard me talking about a bigger opportunity I’ve just gotten. She suddenly leaned over and said, are they paying you? When I said yes, she said good.

Worst, you should be more like blank. It’s hard enough for me to make sure I’m being the best version of myself. I can’t be adding all kinds of other people into the mix. And that’s your comedy news for today. If you enjoy the show, tell a friend about it, and you can all follow it on Apple podcasts, Atifi or YouTube for free.

And I’ll see you tomorrow.

The Shark Deck. Hello again, I’m Jenny Mack with your Daily Comedy News from sneaker News. You’re home for sneaker News. Dave Chappelle’s got some cool kicks, Dave Chappelle air Force Ones. This project put together by Coltrane Curtis, founder of New York City based marketing agency Team Epiphany.

His task get podcasts to talk about Dave Chappelle air Force Ones. He says the design was the easy part, white uppers, gum soles and the iconic Dave Chappelle c on the heel, but had to get the right people to wear them. Well. He went to DJ Clark Kent too, currently is the most influential sneaker had ever, says Sneaker News, and I’ll trust them They’re right. Kicks were never really Clark Kent’s primary calling card.

That’s Crazy’s secretly superman. Come on, guys, don’t you know this? He just embodied v culture that influenced a lot of marketing strategies over the last three decades. Sneaker News says they don’t know how they got it done, but they imagine all it took was a few texts and calls. Unfortunately, the Dave Chappelle Air Force ones are not for retail and we’re made just for Dave Chappelle.

Mister Cant went on social media and wrote, so I did a think for Dave. Yeah that Dave called Trane. Curtis on Instagram wrote, David the jack and needed some heat for his new Netflix special. He knew exactly what he wanted. But here’s the thing that I think we’re not paying enough attention to.

Apparently there’s a new Dave Chappelle Netflix special coming in which she he’s wearing these sneakers, right, all right, we’ll keep an eye on that. Mannie Fair interviewed one of my favorite comedians. I’m gonna skip down to a paragraph here. Otsgo is pronounced otsko, by the way, and her last name is pronounced o kotska, which is good because that’s how I’ve been seeing it. I don’t I’m not sure I always get it right, but I usually say otsko at kotska, and I’ve kind of trained myself to do it.

Vanity Fair writes, Otsko at cotska is definitely not how you were pronouncing it in your head. Don’t worry, she says, no one ever gets them right. So for simplicity’s sake, everyone just calls her Otsko, but she’s been called Costco says that’s closer than most people get. On her second date with her HU husband, he asked how well he was pronouncing her name on a scale of one to ten. She gave him a two.

His name is Ryan Harper Gray. Now, before she goes on stage, he’ll often approach the MC and tell him how to pronounce Otsko, because he’s more particular about it than she is. Yeah, there was a while that every time I did a story about her, I had to go back and check my notes. But I think I have her right now. I think I’m usually saying Otsko at Kotska correctly, even though when I look at it, I’m like huh.

Tig Nataro is a friend of Otsco and says I feel confident she’s friends with leprechauns, but she wouldn’t even realize she was talking to a leprechaun. Otsko describes herself as a ditz. Vanity Fair says it’s more like she often doesn’t seem entirely aware of her surroundings, but is also blissfully unconcerned. A friend of hers comic Di Loo says, I say this with all the love in my heart. Otsko’s living ten seconds behind everything that’s happening around her, so by the time she catches up to what’s happening, she’s like, oh okay.

Otsko does not dispute this. As for her set, she talks about divorce, mental illness, eating disorders, some light kidnapping, and says, it’s all the differ for an interest that make me who I am. Looking at me, you might not know that I can, you know, make my butt do things you’ve seen in music videos, for example, apparently she was a cheerleader in high school, or that I have rhythm, or that I listen to pretty much solely dance hall music. Let’s go at Koska is great. Where is her special?

Let me tell you the Intruder on HBO? Yeah, fantastic, You should watch that. Nimesh Patel spoke to the Albany Times Union. His previous special was called Lucky Lefty, which discussed his testicular cancer. For this tour, he says, no, no more ball talk politics.

I’ll usually decide night of if I want to if anything’s going on, then I want to talk about I’m not sure if you’re aware what’s happening in the world at the moment. It’s not exactly fun comedic material, but we’ll see what we can do. Yeah, I’ve been pondering how to handle the situation in Israel on this podcast. Obviously you come here for light hearted fluff banter, but you know, sometimes, like I did on Monday, there are stories there and I open up a little heavy. I’m just trying to figure out where in the podcast to place it, and I don’t want to ignore it, but also I get why you come here, and it’s more for like, hey, Julia, Louis Dreyfus says she doesn’t know what’s going on with the Seinfeld reading, like I get it, So I’m trying to figure that out anyway, Nameschez.

For the most part, it’s honestly whatever I feel like talking about right now. That’s like how I grew up in some thoughts on the world at large, but nothing crazy. It’s the tour I’m having the most fun so far. I gotta have a new joke or two or three, or a new minute or five minutes buried somewhere in the set. The thing I’m most excited for is where that new joke’s going to be.

That’s the initial psych up, and then once I get comfortable on stage, I’m having fun. Oddly enough, it’s the most present I get to be in any twenty four hour time period. The hour and a half that I’m on stage, I have to be present, and that’s also motivating for me, because otherwise I’m just like on my phone thinking about what I’m gonna say, and then that turns into a daydream and I’m wondering what I’m gonna eat, you know, all the random bs that goes through your head. As for this being a new hour, he says, I’d say I’m at the beginning. I’m probably not close to a third down yet, still in the beginning stages of it.

It’s weird because I do like three cities in a weekend, and when I get home on Monday, I’m like, where was I This is from September, but I only just saw it. Andrew Schultz on The Flagrant podcast was discussed Hasan Minhaj and pointed out, usually we comedians lie to make things funnier, not make things more racist, sad, or emotional. It’s not like he’s been using these exaggerations or hyperbole as punch lines. He was using them to make the audience feel worse about him. And it turns out these things didn’t actually happen.

Remember the whole adventure with Trevor Noah’s canceled show and Bengaluru. Well, according to MoneyControl dot Com, a website that I usually don’t source. I don’t know how accurate they are. They seem accurate, but from MoneyControl dot Com they sat Comedian Nishant Suri had to cancel his show in Bengaluru over non payment of dues by the event organizers. This at the same arena.

He went on Instagram to share his experience. The post went viral, with other comics backing his claim. He even tagged it at an Instagram post saying I even got a call from the driver of the cab they arranged to pick me up, saying he hadn’t been paid and could I do something about it. Suzi Ediazzard playing San Francisco. The SF Chronicle caught up with Susie and they were curious because this new tour finds Susie reworking her most famous material and reimagining it.

Well, how does that work? And Susie said the Rolling Stones are a good example. They’ve played for sixty years now, and when they do the classics, they do them in the classic style because that’s what people want to hear. They don’t want it remixed. But in comedy, if you go in and do the same beats, it doesn’t work.

That’s why I want to change them so that I can live and go what do I say next? What comes here? It’s like a chess game. That’s what really turns me on and not quite being sure of what I’m going to say next. Suzie Eddie is already is performing in multiple cities and in multiple languages.

Susie says, my special trick is to treat every audience the same. It’s a very lazy technique, but that’s the brilliant thing about history. What Henry the Eighth did and what an idiot he was. That hasn’t dated at all. It will never date.

I go all the way back to ancient Greece and that’s not dated at all. You can see a laziness in my work and hopefully in intelligence and an attention to detail. But I don’t want to change at gig to gig because it seems too much hard work. Suzie Eddie performs comedy in four languages, including English. Any plans to add more languages so as he says, yes, French and German are up and running and touring.

Spanish is up and running, but my ability to speak the language isn’t as strong. I want to learn Arabic because I was born in Yemen, but I only know a few words of that. Russian is one I want to do as well. I know there’s a war on. They say it’s good to learn languages in your senior years because it keeps the dementia wolf away from the door.

So I’ll just keep trying to learn them and do performances. I’ve been mentioning how much I loved Mark Maren’s interview with Tom Poppa. They talked about corporate shows and Papa said they’re expecting a clean, funny show. Half of them aren’t even comedy fans, and they’re not even paying attention. They’re just being brought in there because it’s their night.

And if I’m working on something new, like the new act that I’m in, it’s not gonna be as tight. So I’ll go back to the last two acts. Maren then jumps in and talks about doing old material and says, some guy keeps bothering me at the comedy store. There’s two old guys to go there every night. The guy keeps telling me do the gun thing, the bad thing.

Maren says, I don’t even remember how it opens. I have to look it up on Spotify. Papa said, I hate when I do a corp and I take out a joke that’s twenty years old, and it kills in a way that nothing currently kills. Next Avenue who spoke to Maria Bamford and asked, Maria, how do you think it differs being a female comedian versus a male comedian, And you think it’s changed a lot in the last ten to twenty years. Maria said, the bays the same thirty years later.

For openers coming up, the majority of clubs feature white males. The wonderful thing is the internet, theater and festival opportunities where comics can book themselves and avoid the clubs that don’t seem to want to develop new audiences. Since it was an interview about comedy, they had to ask her about cancel culture, and she said cancelation doesn’t seem real at all. There are plenty of alleged sex criminals still touring to huge crowds who don’t care if I get canceled or called out for something I’ve done. Thank you.

I’m grateful that anyone takes time out of the day to teach me about something. I’ve said many things that we’re ignorant. I’ve been grateful when it’s been pointed out to me. Chris Cather talked about alt comedy to The eight hundred Pound Gorilla and said the scene in New York began to feel less unified. I think club comedy has risen up.

I think the aggressive style has risen up. I’ll jump in there, yes, yes, and displaced all comedy a little bit. I also think there’s a really beautiful quasi cabaret scene that has so much joy and value to it, but it doesn’t feel as working class as the all scene used to. Not that the alt scene ever was like people in overalls and work boots doing shows after they got off their jobs working as long shoreman. I’m not saying that, but the accessibility was there.

Now there’s a new scene that feels a little bit more like young and hot. It’s an awesome scene. Don’t get me wrong, but as a forty three year old white guy whose hairline is sprinting in the wrong direction, it’s hard for me to find my place in that particular version of the alt scene. Gathered is pretty self aware. He realizes the bigger thing’s got for him, the less it felt like him.

That includes the Chris Gethard Show. Chris said, a lot of the fans would say when we went to cable, the show got a lot worse. I’d actually argue that if you go back and watch the old public access shows, some of them are really bad. They fall apart, they don’t make sense, they’re not that funny, but people love the spirit of it. For me, I realize that the spirit is sort of what fuels me to be my best.

Sometimes I have to take a deep breath and go, don’t get caught up in this idea that you need to make more money than you did a few years ago. Don’t get caught up in this idea that that’s the only determining factor. That is great advice, Chris says, Sometimes, for me, the thing that’ll make me the most happy in the middle of a given week is a show in a coffee shop. In boot in New Jersey, where there’s fifty people, and I can rant about how depressing the Chuck E Cheese and East Hanover is on a Monday night. I know that Chuck E Cheese.

I was by there the other night with my son. We didn’t go to Chuck e Cheese because he’s in his twentiness now. We went to Chili’s and they’ll get it because they’ve actually been there. It’s a very, very far away from HBO, but it makes me happy and I have to trust that, and I have to have faith in that. Curtis Cook is one of Ulture’s twenty five comedians to Watch.

Curtis, what have you learned about your own joke writing process? Curtis said, I finally accepted that joke writing looks different than I thought it would. I used to feel bad if I wasn’t sitting down and physically writing a certain number of pages a day, or putting pen to paper as I thought I should. Most of the writing I do now involves either endlessly pacing my apartment or steering blankly into space for hours on end. I’ll jump in.

I’ve talked about that all the time. If you watch mad Men, there’s a scene where the writers are throwing a tennis ball around on the British bosses, like what the hell are they doing? And Don Draper explains, I have to let the creative people be uncreative until they’re ready. I’ve explained to bosses for years. You know you can whip us and go come up with good ideas.

It doesn’t work that way. I know for me, most of my good ideas come early in the morning and often went on runs and I let my brain kind of go wild, So I hear you, Curtis Cook. Curtis added my experiences that writing stuff out does help, especially in the editing process, but when the concepts are loose, I’m a big fan of letting yourself spin out like a lunatic until you think you’re excited to try something new. And coming up on November ninth, didn’t your Comedy Festival edition of Comedy Gives Backs Laugh Aid featuring Gary Goleman, Dresica Curse and Jeff Ross, Aaron Jackson and surprise special guests. Is there a Seinfeld reunion happening?

Jerry Seinfeld hinted that ‘something is going to happen,’ but Julia Louis-Dreyfus told The Guardian she doesn’t know anything about it, leaving the details unclear.

What movie did John Mulaney watch with Olivia Munn’s mother?

They watched ‘The Handmaiden,’ a Korean lesbian erotic thriller, which turned out to be far more explicit than either expected.

Did Disney use AI to recreate Robin Williams’ voice for the Genie?

No. Disney confirmed it obtained permission from Robin Williams’ estate to use previously unheard archival dialogue from the original Aladdin recording sessions for the ‘Once Upon a Studio’ short.

What is Reggie Watts’ new book about?

His book ‘Great Falls, Montana: Fast Times, Postpunk, Weirdos, and a Tale of Coming Home Again’ documents his youth and experiences growing up in Montana.

Why did Johnny Mac criticize Joe Parra’s comedy special?

While praising Parra’s material, Johnny felt the audience was over-reacting because they knew what to expect from his deliberately low-energy, dry delivery, which detracted from the performance.

What concern does Johnny Mac have about some recent comedy specials?

He suspects some specials may have artificially sweetened audience reactions, as the laughter at transitions sounded unnatural to him.

Hey, guys, today might sound a little different because somebody forgot to plug the microphone in. See what happened was I had recorded a few episodes of five Good News Stories, that’s the other podcast I do, and then unplug the mic to edit those, and I forgot to plug it back in. So it’s not like I didn’t do a mic check this morning. I just forgot to plug it back in. So I put some me CU on this.

It should sound okay enough, but that’s what happened. The Shark Deck, Rowdy and Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. You know that Seinfeld something that Jerry Seinfeld said, quote, something is going to happen. Julia Louis Dreyfus doesn’t know anything about it, she told The Guardian. Yeah, I just saw that news last night, and I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.

Some suspect she’s being coy. Others suspect she doesn’t know what the Helly’s talking about. We’ll see. John Mulaney was on Stephen Colbert last week. One story that seems to be tickling the fancy of the media.

M’laney was hanging out with Olivia Munn’s mother, they were watching Korean movies together. Herself is less interested in such movies. John said she once found a notepad I had with a list of Korean movies that I had read good things about to watch with Miss Kim, and she said, this is more effort than you put into any of our date nights. As Melanie tells the story, one night they started watching a movie called The Handmaiden together, unaware that the film is a lesbian, erotic thriller. Mulaney said, I was like, truly, this is what people mean by erotic.

There’s a very intense and I can’t say more about it, very intense. They’re right against each other, very serious, very physical. Olivia’s mom looks over to me and goes, I think they’re a little lesbian. What do you think. I watch some comedy specials.

I started with Joe Para. I love Joe Para. I’ve seen Joe Para twenty years ago. John, we hear the butt coming. Yeah, I feel bad.

His material deserves so much better, So what’s the issue? John? The audience is out in front of him. If you’re not familiar with Joe Para, deliberately, low energy, deliberately, very matter of fact dry, and when I first saw him way back, it was just amazing because it was so anti everything that you’re used to. But if you watch Joe parrah special on YouTube, the audience is out in front of it.

They know they’re at a Joe Parrah’s show and they know what Joe is going to do, so when he starts to do it, they overreact and it took me out of it. The material is strong, but the crowd ruined the show. And I’ll tell you a story about Mitch Hedberg. His wife, Lynn Shawcroft told me I’ve told the story before, but I’ll tell it really quickly. About a year after Mitch died, I reached out to Lynn and told her we wanted to do a tribute on Sirius XM.

And I didn’t reach out right away. I didn’t want to be a vultual like, oh comedian and I let’s do it. So I gave it some time and I reached out to her. She was really touched and she came in and she had shared with me Mitch had a notebook of some jokes that he’d written down but never performed. In the special that we did, we actually had some comedians like Doug Stanhope do those jokes.

I bet nobody has saved the tapes. I haven’t worked there in ten years. Talk to them. But she also had with her a club recording from Late in Mitch’s Life and she was playing it for me and I’m listening to it and I said, you know, you have an album here, and she was a little overluckedant, but she took it to Comedy Central and a guy named Jack Vaughn that I know pretty well, and that became the posthumous Mitch Hebberg album. Anyway, she was explaining to me, if you heard the raw tape, Mitch late in Life was speeding up his act because the same thing the audience was getting in front of him and it was throwing him a little bit.

So his delivery had picked up and it wasn’t quite the same. But again that was because of the crowd. So, Joe Parra, I don’t know, maybe you’ll really dig it. I think the material was really good, but the crowd kind of took me out of it. So I switched over to Netflix and Beth Stellings.

If you didn’t want me, then I like Beth a lot. She’s been on my radar for a long time, and I explained this sometimes. This was my challenge with the Mallenie special. I felt like she was reciting a monologue. I get that people aren’t going up and winging their one hour specials, but there’s something in the presentation where I feel like Dave Chappelle’s on a surfboard and feeling the crowd and changing his pace.

I felt like Mullaney was telling stories that he had just really, really really rehearsed. And I felt the same thing with Beth, and I couldn’t get into it. And as I listened to it, and my ears are sensitive to this thing, I suspect maybe, perhaps not accusing anybody, John, You’re probably wrong. Why would you say such a thing? Maybe possibly they sweetened the audience.

The audience is laughing at her segways. It just sounds unnatural to me go hit play on that and just don’t listen to Beth. Listen to the crowd. The crowd seems unnatural. I don’t know.

I don’t know what’s going on there. Then I tried one more Zarna Guards one in a billion. You’ll find that on Amazon. I found her really charming. I want to love her, but I feel like she’s got a great eight minutes and not an hour.

There’s probably a fantastic eight minutes in there. So that was John watching comedy oh for three. Sorry everybody, I try if you’re watching ABC. Last night, Disney released a new animated short celebrating the one hundredth anniversary of Walt Disney Animation Studios that features Mickey and Minnie Moles gathering up hundreds of characters from throughout the history of Disney’s cartoons. This is called Once Upon a Studio.

One of those characters the Genie from Aladdin, and that had quote new meaning never before heard dialogue from Robin Williams relaxed, don’t freak out now. You may recall Robin Williams supposedly had a line in his will preventing Disney from reusing outtakes from the Aladdin recording sessions. Disney has gone out of its way to confirm that it got permission from Robin Williams a state in order to do this. They’re trying to get in front of any rumors that they used. Ai producer of Vette Marinos told Polygon it was quote so important to Disney to have Robin Williams team involved from early on, saying it meant the world that they said yes to his inclusion.

One of the producers, Dan Abraham, said the genie was too important to be included. I just think we couldn’t have made the short without Cinderella. We couldn’t made the short without Stitch, couldn’t have made it without Robin Hood, and we couldn’t have made it without the Genie. He’s just such a part of our history, our legacy. Some are pointing out the voice actors for Cinderella and Robin Hood are also dead, presumably many others, and Disney being Disney, they did this thing, and who knows, We’ll see how people react to that.

Possaine talked to The Toledo Blade about music. The first band Posain got into as a kid was Kiss and You tell a story about one Christmas morning when he was gifted a record. That record Seawan Cassidy. Ryan said, my cousin got led Zeppelin’s physical graffiti, and I got Sean Cassidy. I returned my Shawn Cassidy to the store.

If either led Zeppelin two or led Zepplin four, you wouldn’t consider it metal. But it was definitely a step in the right direction. From there, I got a CDC’s Highway to Hell album, and then I got into Metallica, Raven and bands like that. Reggie Watts is all about Montana, which is good because he was speaking to the Montana Free Press. Reggie has a new book out today.

It’s called Great Falls, Montana, Fast Times, Postpunk, Weirdos, and a Tale of Coming Home Again. The book documents his youth in Electric City. Reggie said, for the most part, I just went back and try to remember as much as I could. I got to ask friends about stories and corroborate things that happened, and I interviewed my mom. I got to revisit aras of time that I forgot about and look at photographs from those times.

It was cool adventure and re experiencing. If I could, I’d work with artificial intelligence and give it general time times when these things happen, and then have the AI do investigations to find the exact times and correlate those things. I’d love to fill out my timeline and create essentially a cybernetic memory of my life. The Montana Free Press asked, did anything about writing the book surprise you Reggie said, I’m surprised that I finished it. When you’re working in a new medium and you finally finish something and it feels slightly underwhelming but also slightly unbelievable.

It’s such a long process. It’s not like finishing a song. It’s not like you put the period on the last sentence and you’re like, yes, one more question from the free press. When you perform in Montana, does it feel different? And Reggie said, I try not to get too political.

The last time was in Great Falls. I talked about gun rights. I was trying to talk about a sensible gun safety measure and how they’re actually in favor of people who are pro Second Amendment because it create more of a responsible populace with firearms. Surprisingly, people were chill about it. There’s a lot to be said from when they hear from somebody from their own state.

Even if I don’t necessarily look like most people there, and even though I live in Hollywood and they could say you’ve been infiltrated by a Hollywood I don’t really get a lot of that, and I’m pretty grateful for that. And live had fun at Fred Armison’s show, which is called Comedy for musicians, but everyone is welcome. I’m live, says Fred Drew laughs while teaching the crowd how to gradually sneak out of a concert. The show lasted about two hours. Armiston set divided into two acts.

Detroit comedian Jake Russell performed in between. At one point, Fred got the entire crowd singing along to a song called Tandy Leather, which he made up based on some words on an article of clothing worn by an audience member. Armison also performed Hate Policeman as Ian Rubbish, a British punk rocker alter ego, and did a parody of the Talking Heads called this is My Street, before ending with a bad on purpose rendition of the Beatles Blackbird, which he said as Dad taught him on an old beat up guitar. One way you could support the show is you can go to buy me acoffee dot com slash Daily Comedy News of Von did just that. A Von availed herself of what I call the ten dollars donation, which is a ten dollars donation.

So it was good timing for me. I was cold yesterday morning and I was like, hmm, I might need two coffees here. I of course got my ice coffee which is down here in the studio with me. Thank you, vonn Nice little Melton. It’s not about fifty five percent of that one left, but I started off the morning with a hot coffee which warmed me up nicely.

So Avon, thank you and Von’s part of the Facebook group. I encourage everyone who listens please join us in the Facebook group Daily Comedy News podcast group. Just this morning I posted something about otsco at Cotska and also a tampapa thing, so you’ll find those in there. Levon, thank you very much. Buy me a coffee.

Dot com slash Daily Comedy News. The Daily Show announced their guest host, Michael Costa is hosting this week. Next week Jesus Nice, then Charlotte and the God. Week of the thirtieth Sarah Silverman back for a second round on November sixth. That’s interesting.

Leslie Jones back for a second round on the thirteenth week of November twentieth, The Daily Show News team takeover featuring Dulce Sloan, Ronnie Ching and Moore, and week of November twenty seventh, Michelle Wolfe. Now, looking at that list, they don’t have a host. I don’t see them giving it to Michael Costa. Jesus nice would be great. Maybe put him in the Max.

Charlemagne is too popular, he won’t step down to do the Daily Show. Sarah Silverman, I guess is she too old for the demo? Now? How old is Sarah? Sarah’s fifty two?

Maybe maybe Leslie Jones and maybe Michelle Wolf might be the most likely candidate on the board right now. I think she’d be fantastic at it. We will see. Rick and Morty are back well. They have new voices.

Justin Royland out, Rick and Morty announced the new voices. They are Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden. Yeah. I don’t know either. But the Hollywood reporter I spoke to Showerner, Scott Morder and the creator Dan Herman Murderers said we heard thousands of people went on for six months.

It was really wide. It almost went so wide that we debated doing a global hotline that we knew would wind up being a prank line. We felt like we needed to go that far and wide. It was harder than we thought. I thought it’d be easier.

Rick was a lot harder than expected. Everybody sounded like macho man, Randy Savage or like a cousin of his. No One sounded exactly like Rick was. Tricky. People had it and splashes once you bring them in.

They couldn’t do it conversationally. I think Harmon really explains as well here he says, it’s one thing to match an impression. Can you do George W. Bush as well as Dana Carvey? But can you do it beyond just saying not going to do it?

I think that is a great, great, great point Harmon said, was trying to strike this crazy balance. This character has to be angry, sad to spawn it and all those things. I was removed from it until the late stages, and part of that was a selfish emotional conflict on my part, but it ended up helping us because of the scientific practicality of the process. It was very difficult, even in my short time at the end of the assembly line, where your ears very quickly get so confused when you’re trying to tell the difference between a nine to five and a ninety seven on a does this sound like my friends scale? You so quickly lose your objectivity.

I got to be a little baby and do even less work than Scott but I can’t stress enough that this is the job he signed up for. So they asked about Solar Opposites, where Justin Royland also was the main voice, and they recast that and totally change it into a British sounding dude with Dan Stevens. Didn’t work for me, and a focus group of two Cousin Keith didn’t work for Cousin Keith either, And we love Solar Opposites. But the new season I didn’t even finish. It just didn’t work, Murder said.

We never sincerely went down that road of redoing the voices. It was explored right at the heart of things at the very beginning. I always try to look from a fans perspective, imagine Homer Simpsons sounding different. I would have been instantly out. As much as I love the show, I felt like it needed to be exactly the same.

Yes, I think if you’ve changed Homer Simpson’s voice now, absolutely, but uh, mister Murder, go watch season one of The Simpsons and pay attention to Homer’s voice there. Vulture did their twenty five comedians you should know. One you should know is Stavros Hawkius. Good call by them, he sold Vulture when I was between like five and eight. My mom worked at a Greek restaurant and Saturday nights that if I was lucky, should bring home tins of leftover Calamorian lamb chops.

Without my mom there to monitor what I was watching, I spent some of my most formative Saturday nights watching SNL and waiting to eat fried foods after midnight. Because of those nights, I idolized Chris Farley, I’m Sailor, and Will Ferrell and became a huge compy nerd and then for most of the Saturday nights the last fifteen years, I’ve attempted to recreate that pattern. The only difference is I do the comedy now, and the women I’m trying to hang out with at one am are not my mother. The fried food is the same, though, That’s great. Worst show every said.

This takes place during Obama’s first term. I was hosting an open mic at a seafood restaurant to make a little money. Was good friends with the owner, and he offered me two hundred dollars to do comedy in the corner of the bar for four hours. I explained, stand up doesn’t work that way, but for two hundred bucks. I could put on a show for two hours.

I need a room, a stage, a spotlight, and microphone. He agreed. I shot up. A week later, he wasn’t there and no one had heard a show as supposed to be taking place. There was no stage, no spotlight, but there was a wireless mic.

I really needed the two hundred dollars, so I took the mic and attempted a host a show in a pack bar. With nowhere to stand, most of the comics opted a walk around the huge circular bar. Everyone was bombing, and the night ended forty minutes early when a local man named Ice pick Rick decided to use his allotted five minutes to stab a comedian. The Shark Deck Johnny Mac, would you daily come in a new series? Start to today. Amy Schumer on Instagram posted a lengthy message. Amy wrote, as a child, I grew up with Uncle Alex Numbers from Auschwitz, burned into his forearm, attending Hebrew school, reading endless books about the Holocaust, like all Jewish children do, learning of the world’s confusing hatred for us. She recalled being ridiculed for being Jewish by students and parents alike.

Ashamed and scared, I kept it quiet, learned to laugh along with all the jew jokes and made them myself. I’m not laughing anymore and being quiet anymore. I’m proud to be descended from a population that they have tried to exterminate over and over again thousands of years. My ancestors fought too hard and survived too much for me to sit quietly. I am Jewish, I am proud.

My heartbreaks for Israel. It breaks for the innocent people of Gaza too. I love my Palestinian brothers and sisters, Palestinians, not Hamas, who wants only to exterminate the sixteen million of us left. Pete Davidson hosted Saturday Night Live. They did a cold open, and I think better than me recapping it, and here’s Pete Davidson.

This week we saw the horrible images and stories from Israel and Gaza, and I know what you’re thinking, Who better to comments on it than Pete Davidson. Well, in a lot of ways, I am a good person to talk about it because when I was seven years old, my dad was killed in a terrorist attack, so I know something about what that’s like. I saw so many terrible pictures this week of children suffering as rarely children and Palestinian children, and it took me back to a really horrible, horrible place. And you know, no one in this world deserves to suffer like that, you know, especially not kids. Pete went on to say, my heart is with everyone whose lives have been destroyed this week.

But tonight I’m gonna do what I’ve always done in the face of tragedy. Let’s try to be funny. Episode Wise, it probably won’t make the Hall of Fame. The best received bit Pete Davidson in a takeoff of I’m Just Ken singing I’m just Pete looking like a meth head on the street. More Pete Davidson News Lionsgate has landed the US rights to the Home That Is, a thriller starring Pete Davidson.

Pete plays Max, a former foster child who begins working in a retirement home, only to discover that it’s residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets.

Meanwhile, in The Daily Mail, Chris Rock is said to be deeply frustrated at b…

Insiders are saying he would prefer if the actress kept his name out of her mouth as she’s out there promoting her new book. A source tells The Daily Mail, Chris has set his peace on the entire Will Smith’s slap, but now with these new revelations from Jada that her and Will have been living separate lives, it’s just another WTF moment and the whole saga from these past few years between Chris, her and Will. Chris hates that she keeps bringing it up and bringing up the other revelations about Chris asking her out on a date and all that he’s a relatively private person. Was just getting to a point where many people have started to move on. Now it’s back in the limelight, and it’s just frustrating that everything is coming back to the forefront.

Meanwhile, Tommy Davidson, he was on the Club Shayshay podcast with Shannon Sharp. If you listen, forty six minutes in, Tommy Davidson says, me and Will had a run in. Sharp said, yeah, you try to put his wife in a liplock. Davidson said, I didn’t find out that for fifteen years because he never told me that. See, he came into the trailer and I was sitting down right, He’s standing over it, and he’s like, I don’t appreciate that, man, I don’t appreciate that.

And I’m like, what are you talking about. Davidson said he was confused what Will was upset about, but he kept thinkings civil because he was sitting and Will was standing over him. Davidson then says Will Smith stood over him, biting his bottom lip. As Pinkett Smith cautioned will Will, Davidson says, I’m like, what’s happening, man? You tell me what’s happening.

You know when a guy does this, and then Davidson bit his lip, he might do something. So I finally just said this is a small place and people are here. We should talk about it, me and you outside because it looks like you need to get something off your chest, and Jada was like, no, no, no, no. Davidson said he didn’t learn until fifteen years later that the reason Will Smith was upset was because of a kissing scene in Who. Tommy said he found out about it after he wrote his book Living in Color, What’s Funny About Me, and he speculated about why Will Smith was mad.

He called Will’s friend Charlie Mack to ask if it was okay to mention the argument in the book, and Mack told him the actor had given his permission. Tommy Davidson said the producers of the film wanted the actress to film the kissing scene without having rehearsed it, which caused multiple uncomfortable takes for the actress. Tommy writes, that’s the only reason he could think of why Will Smith was upset. Mack confirmed it. Tommy said, so I saw that side.

Meanwhile, John Mulaney was on Stephen Colbert’s show and said, I have trouble telling maybe three people something personal, but telling like Madison Square Garden twelve thousand people is very comfortable. That might be a real sickness. I for some reason set up obstacles in my own way that had left me sometimes pretty disoriented and pretty unhappy. But I am, at my core a happy person, and it’s okay for me to protect that by living a life I want to live. I’m very lucky and I have a very good life.

I don’t want to be the reason that they get complicated. He told Colbert. I was going through a lot, and it means a lot to me when you reached out. It was extra special in that way. Malaney says his son Malcolm keeps him busy.

During the writer strike. We would walk to the donut shop, walk to the seven to eleven to get scratch off lottery tickets. He walks next to me, where’s a baseball hat? And we talked the whole time. Later in the day, when he’s asleep, I’ll be talking to Olivia and I’ll be like, who was I talking about earlier?

That if we put that there, it’ll blow it away. Oh yeah, that was Malcolm. Over the weekend, there was the very first comedy Fantasy Camp in Hollywood. The La Times caught up with Jay Leno and Adam Carolla before the event. The plan was for Harland Williams, Alonzo Boden, Carolyn Ray, and others, plus a special surprise guests.

We’ll see if anybody else turned up to be part of Comedy Fantasy Camp. Adam Carolla said the idea for this came because I was always intrigued about the rock and roll fantasy camp. I was fascinated by all these big name rock stars who would do the camp. I don’t play an instrument, but he do stand up and you do a baseball fantasy camp, so why not a comedy fantasy camp. Jay Leno said the plan was to teach people to be themselves and be relatable to the audience.

You can’t teach people to be funny, but you can help them be comfortable in their own skin. Then the jokes can flow naturally from there. Adam chimed in and said, Jay’s right, it’s being comfortable with who you are. With music, you can hear yourself and you know if you have any talent. I’m pretty sure Jimmy Hendrix knew he was pretty damn good at playing guitar.

But with stand up comedy, you can’t really hear yourself. You really need an audience to give your feedback. Jay said, that’s absolutely true.

Also, stand up comedy is not like music in a way.

When you think about this, It’s not like everybody can play guitar like Jimmy Hendrix, but anyone can talk into a microphone. Right. So people think all the time they could be a stand up comedian, but it’s not as easy as just talking. Most comedians are writers. You have to be a writer and write your own jokes.

I have been mentioning how much I enjoyed Mark Maren’s interview on the WTF podcast with Tom Poppa. Tom started talking about having an empty house his kids college age now and moved out, and I can absolutely relate to that. And Papa said, yeah, you look at it. You go. We did it.

We did the thing. They’re good kids, they’re really great, but they don’t live with me anymore. I don’t have to do the day to day, that project, that twenty year project. But being in the house running the corporation, you have to just let them go. And I had a thing in my act where it was like, wait a minute, I did all this for you.

I didn’t want a house. I didn’t want these animals I don’t even have friends. All my friends are your friend’s parents.

And now you’re gonna go, I should go.

I hear so much of that top to bottom. Sir Billy Connolly talked to the BBC. He said he’ll never give up live performances despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Billy Connolly is eighty now. He got diagnosed ten years ago.

He says of stand up but as the ability to cheer myself up, and I love it. I walk with a stick and at airports I have to get the wheelchair. I hate being dependent to that degree, and I feel sorry for other people who are in wheelchairs and whoever it worse than me. Billy says his wife Pamela helps him get dressed in the morning. I’m clumsy and I lose my balance.

I’m out of balance a lot and I fall. I’m fed up with it. I think I have a good attitude to it. I say to the disease, I’ll give you a break if you give me a break. We’re nice to each other.

Subscription service Well Presents Plus has announced House of Laughs. The description some of the funniest and fiercest LGBTQ plus comedians and drag Queens of her half hour specials filled with hilarious and irreverend jokes. Some other performers Joel Kim Booster and Cameron Esposito. I’m a big fan of both of them. Vulture did their twenty five comedians you should know.

Edie Motka is one of them, and they asked Edie what unscripted or reality series do you think you’d excel At her answer, I want to start stuff on Love is Blind, fall in love with the pods at the moment where we see each other for the first time and as soon as we meet eyes, we’re both like, it’s you. It’s always been you. Then at the first mixer with all the paired couple, I’ll give over the pants, John, you should preread these things favors to everyone’s fiances and when they’d tell the girls what I did, I’ll deny it. Pre read these things. Well.

Yeah, you may know Edie from Jury Duty because she explained what’s your proudest achievement of your comedy career so far? And the answer Jury Duty. She plays the woman who is flirtatious with the guy who’s on jury duty. You watch the show and you go if I were on jury duty. Yeah, should be the woman I’d be into for these two sitting here.

Yep, she did a great job on that show. And from Insider, a Generation Z comedian went megaviral trying to mock millennials, but it backfired miserably. All right, what happened? John, a gen Z comedian, satirized millennials for their attempts at a wedding video trend on TikTok. He went on to suggest that they like Hannah Montana and it would chastise gen Z about home ownership.

This is Markezano. He goes by Snerky Marky. He’s got four and a half million followers on TikTok and I’m recording a podcast in my basement. He posts comedy content, including parodies of the generational differences, from gen Z’s take on tattoos to millennials on social media anyway, he posted a video which mocked millennials. A day later, he stitched his own video by playing a character that appeared to be a parody of those responding, and introduced himself as an offended millennial.

While in character, he said, worry about the fact that he can’t read or right cursive, the fact that you don’t know who Hannah Montana is, and the fact that you’ll never be able to buy a home. That video got three point one million views. One viewer wrote, there is no way Hannah Montana’s a millennial thing. Multiple users responded saying they grew up in the early two thousands and had watched Hannah Montana. Some millennials also took issue with the suggestion they would call out younger people for not being able to afford their own home, highlighting their own struggles with the housing market and pointing to older generation susage Generation X who are having an easier ride with buying property.

Relaxed, there, youngsters, I’m recording a podcast in the basement. I don’t know how much money you think I have. When viewer wrote, lol, us millennials can’t buy homes either. Don’t worry. Katano tailed Insider his videos are intended to be satirical and said anyone who’s overly match should maybe learn to laugh at themselves.

When Gen Alpha makes the same type of videos about gen Z, I’ll be sure to view them and laugh along with them. It’s okay to laugh at yourself, and that is your comedy. News for today. If you like the show, tell a friend about it and they can subscribe for free on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or if you’re on the Android app overcast, you could do that too. See you tomorrow.

The Shark Deck. Hello Jenny Mack with your Daily Comedy News. Pete Davidson hosted SNL last night. I’ll recamp that tomorrow. He was on Jimmy Fallon last week and Pete says he has between three to five thousand sealed VHS tapes that he hopes one day he’ll sell for a mass of profit.

Pete said, I started collecting VHS’s that were sealed in the box like three years ago because I was really high one night. So the plan is in twenty twenty six, it’ll be twenty years since the last VHS was made, right, So twenty years goes by, that’s enough time for people to be like, oh that was cool, remember like Vinyl. So I bought all the sealed ones that exist, like three to five thousand tapes. As of a month ago, sealed VHS’s are going for twenty to thirty grand a pop. Rocky just sold for twenty seven thousand dollars.

It’s my game stop. I own all of them, dude. No one believed in me. It’s gonna happen, you guys. Jimmy Fallon said it’s a disaster, and Pete said, if it doesn’t work, I’m gonna be on the road forever.

He talked about when he first got SNL and mother, I’m gonna be on SNL. Mom, Holy crab, Like wow, and she was like, well, just so you know, the Garbageman Test is at the end of the month, just in case. So until three years ago she would ask me to take the Garbageman Test. How did Pete find out he’d be hosting last night? He said, I got a classic Lauren Michael’s text.

He texted, there’s a rumor going around you’re the host for the premiere, and he goes, I guess it’s true because I started it. Krista Stefano spoke with GQ about a choice not to be on social media and said, one of my friends told me I should stop saying on podcasts that I don’t run my social media because fans want to feel like they can communicate with you, and I said, absolutely not. I’m so against people being on social media that I would feel like a fraud telling him to go on and talk to me if I’m not on it. Everything you see on my social media has my approval, or it’s my video that I sent on my social media. Guy, my friends will ask how I gave someone else my passwords, but I just give it to someone else the keys because it’s so bad for me.

Geq said, I heard your podcast with Colin Quinn and he made fun of you because wanting to host SNL is your dream. If they reached out and asked you to host, who would you tell first? Christa Stefano said, my mom. She said, humongous SNL fan. She’s like the person that knows the random actress who want a Golden globe in nineteen eighty one.

She loves Hollywood. She’d be the first person I’d tell because my daughters wouldn’t know what the hell I’m talking about, and Jasmine wouldn’t care. Well, she would care, but it would just mean as much to her as it would to my mom. Hosting SNL is another thing I would say is on my bucket list of dreams. And by the way, we’ve got Radio City sold out.

If we sell out the theater at Madison Square Garden. If we sell out those two, then the hope is to get the big Madison Square Garden. Amy Poehler was on David Spade and Dana Carvey’s podcast and she said, I learned a lot from Will Ferrell, because I’d watch him perform any of this mischievous quality where he and the audience were in on it together. The confident wing to the audience a crucial because the minute they see you sweat, it gets so stressful. If you don’t look like you’re relaxed or having fun, the audience gets very stressed.

Matt Rife spoke at the twenty twenty three Forbes Thirty Under thirty Summit in Cleveland, Ohio. Hey, Matt Rife’s living the life. Good looking guy. Everybody wants to be Matt Rife. But in terms of coolness, hey guys and go to the twenty twenty three Forbes thirty Under thirty summit in Cleveland.

Not the coolest look says the guy in his basement wearing flannel and sweatpants. Raife shared some advice you got from Dave Chappelle. Dave said, make sure you’re still making time to live your life, because that’s where material comes from. Raife said, July of last year, I was really contemplating quitting comedy, moving back to Ohio and getting a normal job. He also discussed it being compared to Dean Cook.

That’s somebody who reached the pinnacle of success in comedy, right, so think about how many people loved him, think about how many people hate him. So it’s like, as much as so many people like me, right now, so many people hate me as well. Don’t worry about the things you do that people don’t like. Focus on the things you do that people do like, and make more of that stuff for them, because those are the people who bless you with a career. That is well said.

Now. Hopefully by now you took my advice and listened to Mark Maron’s interview with Tom Poppa. It is fantastic if you haven’t just hit stop on this right now and go listen to that, and then you can come back, and then you’ll be like, yeah, I just heard what you’re about to tell me, Jenny Mack. Mark Marin climbed up on old Man Mountain and found a chair next to me on the bench and said, what the ef for these eighteen year olds watching? Let’s talk like old men?

I don’t understand. I can’t even get involved with TikTok comedy enough to hate it. That point, I high fived Mark Marin. In my hypothetical imagination, we were on a bench on Old Min Mountain together, Maren said to Papa in real life, I don’t know who they are. I don’t know who that guy Matt is.

What’s his name, what’s his name? It’s big, He’s the big guy, Matt Rife. Oh, Matt Rife. Yeah. And I watched five minutes of him doing some sort of rapid fire crowd work and I’m like, all right, I don’t get it and just comes back to this thing that used to annoy me.

But there’s nothing that can be done about it. But it’s when you and I Tompapa got into it. There weren’t even bringer shows except at Stand Up New York, and we thought it was weird. It’s like you go, you do the open mics, you figured it out, you get the ten minute spot. It was totally comedy club dependent, and we had a goal in mind, which was to be great.

I don’t dislike Matt Rife’s comedy. I think it’s pretty fun, but I do have a seat on the bench on Old Men Mountain next to Maren for sure. Out of the La Times right about comedians being political, James Fritz said, I don’t know what it means to be a political comedian. I do political jokes. I do drinking jokes.

I do relationship joke, said, who jokes about my family? But the sooner you realize that in this country everything’s political, the sener you’ll be. I think if you set out to be political comes across as false. You don’t have to look for the politics. Sports are political, religion is political, Barbie is political, hell your beer is political.

Longtime Jimmy Kimmel Alive writer Brian Cook said it all needs to be funny. And I love this next thing, he said, I love it so much. Pay attention. Cook said, I’ve never understood how a comic can ever be comfortable standing on stage while an audience just claps at something. They said, You’ve got their attention.

Now go write a joke that your job amen on the clapter. So many specials now have the clapter. Ben gleeb A steers his comedy towards politics more than most, and he says the way I found it to be most effective while saying something political in my stand up is to frame it away that comes from a humanistic place. Try to find common ground and the setup of the joke. Then make your point as cleverly and irrefutably as you can once you have people on board, So it’s very hard to deny the logic.

Every now and then you’ll hear me refer to the Macpack. What’s the Macpack? This is a joke that kind of started when I worked it Serious and I had just like the biggest man crush on Michael Chickliss, still kind of do. So the Macpack would be if I were a celebrity, the other celebrities I would hang out with and we would all just be cool together. You know what I’m saying.

It’s like the rat Pack minus those guys, plus me and the list. I’m going to tell you, so the Macpack includes Michael Chickliss, Tom Cavanaugh because I used to love the show. Ed remember ed. They don’t show it anywhere music Rights. It’s tied up.

There are no dvs, nothing that Tom Kavanaugh’s in the Macpack. Keegan Michael Key. I told the story a few times. He did me a real solid in the last day of Serious. I’ll tell that story again some other day.

Andy Samberg, he’s in the Macpack. Jeff Goldbloom, and Henry Winkler, who, by the way, has a new book which is what I’m talking about. The Macpack being Henry, The Fonds and Beyond by Henry Winkler. This will be out October thirty. First the description, the guy who played one of the coolest characters ever on screen is also known as one of the nicest ever off it.

So how exactly did the mild man Henry Winkler transform himself into the Fonds. Henry takes us inside his original Happy Days audition as part of a memoir that goes through his entire career from the Lords of Flatbush through Barry and Yes, he explains why he jumped the Shark. Nathan Habib will record his second special tonight at the New York Comedy Club. Nathan brings a friendly personality on stage while delivering a confidantly vulnerable attitude, quick banter, and tightly written bits and Variety has their list of the twenty five comedians you should know Rob Mister Comedy Hayes’ told Vauchray used to write what I thought people wanted to hear about. I noticed a lot of comics have an idea of what an audience wants.

I no longer care what they want. I want to talk about what I want the fun, and the challenge of performing is being able to talk about whatever and make it fun and enjoyable. There are times when everyone’s in agreement, and there are times when the room is divided. I get to dictate the chemistry in real time. Tell us about your worst show, he said.

Unfortunately, this story is more recent than I’d like. I was hired to a wedding anniversary party slash retirement party. Already, that’s a lot going on. The party was nice and elegant, The program took hours. People drank in eight and there were speeches from friends and family.

Now it’s getting tough. The man in the hour grabs the mic and he’s like, now let’s party. He dances, The DJ plays music. Then a lady stops the music and says, but before we do all that, we have a comedian. Come on, mister comedy man.

It’s your first to me is mister comedy man. I made fun of how absurd it is. I talk about the weird intro, the prayer, the interpretive dance one I should have performed. Then I try and tell a joke and I feel a tap on my shoulder. Nothing is discreet about walking up to performer.

And tapping them on the shoulder. So I was like, we all see you. What do you have to say? The DJ says that the couple would like me to wrap it up. That’s brutal.

But listen to this. I don’t like this last thing. What are your comedy opinions? The first one I like, the second one. I don’t like the first one.

Crowd work isn’t for everyone. People are great at it, it’s amazing, and people are bad at it. It sucks, all right, John, what’s the one you don’t like? Mister comedy man says, I hate reporting on comedy. One of the worst things is people trying to quote a live show.

What thanks for crushing my day, mister comedy man. It’s comedy news. Don’t even fall a show. Screw it. This is the last episode ever

The Shark Deck. Hello, I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. During the week, Vulture updated their best comedy specials of twenty twenty three so far, I haven’t really looked at this. Let’s take a look at what they think. All specials listed from newest to oldest.

So they have Chris Fleming’s Hell up at the top. I enjoyed that one. Super quirky, but yeah, that one’s worth checking out. John Early is now more than ever. That wasn’t bad.

That’s also on my list. Ali Sidik’s The Domino Effect. I think I started that one and it didn’t grab me. John Mulaney’s Baby Jay I didn’t like it. I just felt like John, it didn’t feel real to me.

As for as much press as there’s been about that special, I just felt like John was shocking stories. I can’t really explain it. It just it didn’t connect with me that special the way some of Millenie’s other stuff did. Monique, my name is Monique. I don’t think I have checked that one out.

Mae Martin’s SA I did not enjoy. Kyle Kanaan Shocks and Struts. That’s a good one that was on my list. I’m just skimming down here, and I like this line that Vulture wrote his cruise ship material conjures a nightmarish, hedonistic carnival. Marlon wayans God loves Me.

I try that one. Not for me, Mark Maron, and I’ve been on a big time Mark Maren kick lately, from Bleak to Dark. It just didn’t enjoy it. I bailed about halfway through. All right, John, what’s your list?

Here’s what I have so far. Our best special year is Todd Berry’s to Bestic Short Hair. You’ll find that on YouTube. Shane Gillis on Netflix. I really like that one a lot.

That’s two Thomsi Gore three, Knane at four, Nate Bergatsi at five. That’s on Amazon. Hell A World came out in January. Michelle Wolf at six. J Mcbridedaddy’s Grilled is on YouTube A seven, Jim Jeffreys on Amazon from February is eight, Hari Condobolu’s on YouTube is nine, and Chris Rock remember that was a big deal.

Yes. Some others on my list Jimio Yang, Morost of Mister Peanut, Big Jay, Mark Norman Nimesh Pateel, Sarah Soverman, Chris Fleming, hell at seventeen, generally at eighteen, not on my list. Jim Gaffigan’s Dark Pale, Joe Lysiahu’s Special was fine, but it’s not really special. Jared Freed, it was okay, Amy Schumer, John Mulani, Lewis, Black Handed, gasby Mark Mare, Andrew Santino, for Krasier, Greg Warren, Kevin Horrit Luenell, and I have not seen Roseannes Special. Kat timf has a new book out.

It is called You Can’t Joke About That. She has done a few interviews. Thank you for Scott, who listens all the time and we sometimes will trade an email on the side, and he sent me an interview Kat did with reason. I thought that was pretty interesting. What about the argument some people advanced that speech shouldn’t be banned, but maybe certain types of speech should be disapproved of in such a way that it’s almost the same as banning it, Kat said, don’t erase anything right.

In the summer of twenty twenty, there was a piece saying how many different streaming services pulled episodes. Examples It’s Alway Sunny in Phildelphia, thirty Rock, How We Met Your Mother? The interesting thing about how I Met Your Mother, where there was somebody who’s more on the left who was saying we shouldn’t erase anything because then we can’t talk about it. I agree with that. The example she gave was the yellow Face episode of How I Met Your Mother, where they dressed up as kung fu masters, and there was a debate at this time is this yellow face is this is silliness?

But she actually got the character wrong that was actually dressed like that, because it’s a lot harder to have those conversations when it doesn’t exist anymore. Kat also spoke with USA today, and she knows that when she tells strangers that she works at Fox, conversation is likely to change and judgment will follow. She says, if I’m at a party, I’ll be like, oh, I work in porn, because that’s less controversial. Conan O’Brien was asked by guest Ed Sheeran about Conan’s time as a writer and producer on The Simpsons, and Conan said, so many people think, oh my god, this epic TV show known for it’s really good writers. Conan said, the people I got to work with are insanely talented.

In the room is just awful. The room is terrible. It looks like the worst. I mean it did at the time. It’s much nicer now.

There was a bad shag carpet sofa is that if you’re in your first year college or university. You just get them off the sidewalk. He said. The writers would sit there and eat fried food while waiting for inspiration. There was a writer who smoked all the time who sat next to me, so when I die, it’ll be because of him.

It wasn’t sexy or fun or cool at all. I remember we chewed up some caramel and put it together in a big blob and mashed it into the ceiling and then try to get things to stick to it, because you’ll do anything to pass the time. I’d go and say here’s what I think should happen, and then have all these beats and ideas for an episode, and if they liked it, there was a little gong in the room. If the executive producer was really laughing, somebody would get up and bang the gong and say that’s going to be an episode. I remember a couple of times when they banged the gong when I said my episode, and I was so excited.

One of Vulture’s twenty five Comedians to Watch? Is Opie a la Baju? They asked Opie, what have you learned about your joke writing process? Opie said, for me, the best jokes take a long time to develop. I have jokes from when I first started that still aren’t finished.

Finding the balance of a joke is the hardest part. The only solution is to keep coming back and tinkering with the bit. All right, Opie, what comedy hill will you die? On? His answer, I don’t think comic should be allowed to post photos of themselves on stage from a show they know they bombed at.

Best advice, worst advice, he says, the best comedy advice I got was to quit. The worst advice I got was keep going. Nicole Byer spoke to Cosmo about Taylor Swift. Nichol’s like, people stop talking about her. It’s not that I don’t like her, She’s just not interesting to me.

They were talking about Taylor at the football game a few weeks back. She was dipping chicken nuggets and some ketchup and Ranch. Cosmo was like, I hear you’re also a Ranch fan, Nicole. People don’t like this, but I love Ranch. And steak.

I think it’s delicious. I will literally put ranch on everything. Cosmo was curious, what prompted you to try that combination in the first place. Nicole said, you know when you eat dinner at home with your family and whatever, and everything kind of goes on the same plate. I think I was having salad once and the ranch dribbled over to the steak, and then I was like, wait a minute, this is delightful and delicious.

I used to go to a sandwich shop on the Upper West Side. They had the best ranch. One day, I was raving about the ranch and I was like, what’s in this? Is it? Oh made?

What’s your recipe?

And then they took out a giant vat of craft ranch, like it’s nothing special,…

Vulture did an updated list of who is likely to be in the movie. Very very very likely to be in the movie because they were announced. Joe McHale as Jeff Danny PuTTY’s Abed, Alison Breeze, Annie Gillian Jacob Za, Britta, Jim Rashes Craiga The Dean, and Ken Jung has been Dan Hormon has claimed that all the cast members other than Chevy Chase have agreed to return. All right. What about Donald Glover’s Troy Harmon is confirmed, There’s no need to worry about that, as the film was scheduled to be in production in Atlanta to accommodate Glover’s schedule.

Hormon told Variety last November, Glover is down to clown. I would not want to think about making the movie without Donald. Last month, he said Donald is coming based on word of mouth. He explained the deal might just not be official enough to confirm the Clover’s part of the cast. Glover himself said I haven’t seen the script, don’t know and untrue Dan Harmon fashion will probably get it on the first day.

But yeah, it’s supposed to be happening, all right. What about event Nicole Brown’s surely well? Joe mcchal has tagged both Brown and Glover on Twitter in his post in announcing the movie. To that tweet, Brown responded, it’s happening. Congrats, So it seems like Shirley would be in the movie, right.

What about John Oliver’s Professor Ian Duncan, a Reddit user, has claimed early in the year, they attended a taping of Last Week Tonight and asked Oliver about it, and at that time John said he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to do it because he’s busy with Last Week Tonight. He said he’d like to do the movie if he could pop in whenever he had a break. All right, What about Jonathan Banks, he played Buzz Hickey. What about Paget, Brewsters, Frankie and Keith David’s Elroy from the last season. No news on any of them.

What about Chevy Chass Pierce. I don’t think that’s gonna happen. John Cleese said he’s struggling to get guests willing to discuss woke issues on Klees’s new show for gb News. Clee said, one university professor from Oregon told me more people have been fired during the woke period than were fired during mccartheism in the fifties. That go after people, and an awful lot of people are very, very scared of that, which is why people with a higher profile have to discuss it as if they’re not frightened of getting fired.

Most people are frightened of getting fired, and the people will employ them are frightened of getting fired, and that end of Woke is not very nice. His new show is called The Dinosaur Hour. It’s aimed at dinosaurs who were out of touch. It also has a lot of very good guests who aren’t celebrities. Yes, you’ve got to have a certain number of celebrities to get people to turn on, but then you can interview people who are really interesting, and a lot of celebrities aren’t interesting at all.

This show is for all who are out of touch, all the dinosaurs who are out of touch. You could be out of touch for two reasons. You can be voluntarily out of touch because you’ve given up, which is a very sensible point of view, where you could be out of touch without knowing it. But it’s for those sorts of people. The new show will be set in a castle.

He said it was extraordinary with the setting. I wanted to make it look like a very very strange gentleman’s club, a little like the bar in Star Wars. He almost made a new series for Netflix, and he said, I gave them six ideas and I thought two were really good, and they never even called my agent back, and you kind of think, what are you looking for? I have no idea what they’re looking for. The main thing is you get older, is you realize very few people have any idea what they’re doing.

Fellow Monty Python or Michael Palin, was interviewed by The Sunday Times and he talked about the emptiness he has experienced in the wake of his wife’s death. Michael said, when someone’s gone, someone who’s been so much part of your life for the past sixty years, you can’t believe if they’re not there to enjoy a little joke or an observation or complain about somebody, A great sort of emptiness comes in. Palin, who’s eighty now, said his wife had relied on dialysis for many years in order to keep her alive, and that she eventually took the decision, along with the kids and the doctors, to give it up. Pylon said he’d never seen her happier in a way than during the final ten days of her life after choosing to stop dialysis. She’d accepted it, We’d accepted it.

She was in a wonderful hospice. The children and grandchildren had all come to see her, so her death was a great deliverance for her. Palan said he experienced a full circle moment when he had to register his wife’s death, during which he saw a couple with a young baby at the registry office and he said, I saw the father holding on his chest this tiny, tiny little newborn baby, and I thought, yeah, that’s it. A new person. One in, one out.

I’m not going to leave you. On that note. Yahoo also talked to Palin and the topic is can there be a Monty Python reunion? The answer the two arena shows in twenty fourteen were our final hurrah. We got all the Pythons together, part of course for Graham, who died nineteen eighty nine, for all of us, that was a remarkable series of shows.

The great thing about Python was we were always keen to do something new and different. Taking a long run of shows around the world wouldn’t have worked. We’ve gotten board stiff. We were gonna do four shows at the O two, and the bookings were so good we did ten. It was terrific.

The feeling from the audience was incredible. I don’t think you could ever recreate that. We broke through some barrier with Python. Comedy shows were either Dad’s Armies or sitcoms, and easy to categorize. Python was scatter gun you didn’t know what you’re gonna get when you sat down and watch Python.

So many people like that. People don’t always quote things, but they’ll try to retell a sketch, don’t get it right. The Lumberjacks song and the Spanish Inquisition are the ones people tend to do most. And that’s your comedy needs for today. If you like the show, tell a friend about it.

Maybe they’ll like it too, and all of you can follow the show for free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, wherever you get your shows. See here tomorrow

The Shark Deck. I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News and big time Mets van. Jerry Seinfeld is warming up to the Phillies. Jerry, what the hell, dude? Jerry spoke to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Jerry’s playing Philadelphia tonight at the Met and they asked him what do you hate more, watching the Mets lose or watching the Phillies win. Jerry answered that he really liked Bryce Harper storming up the third baseline last week to yell at Angel Hernandez, who’s an umpire. A lot of people don’t think Angel Hernandez is a good empire. I’ll leave it at that. Jerry said, that was so Philly.

That was so great. The interviewer was like, rivalry, no, Jerry said, I don’t think so. I don’t know what happened to it, but these things can always kindle at any time. It’s all about weird personalities. They pointed out there’s a TV show called Seinfeld.

There’s an episode called The Boyfriend Keith Hernandez episode you’ve seen this, yes, that takes place at a Mets first Phillies game. Jerry said, just seemed like a very classic rivalry. At that time. I don’t know if there’s much of that left today. Once my team is out, I just pick another team.

I base it on watching them play. I like the Phillies this year. They’re exciting, great energy. Jerry, No no, no, no, no no. Pick somebody else.

What are you doing? Jerry says he loves Northeast attitudes and Northeast humor. And my friend Kevin Ord always tells me, if you can get laughs in Philly, you’re ready to go anywhere. Of course, that’s the New York cliche, but it’s also true of Philly. Their audience is very discriminating, and they know their stuff.

Philly is the greatest food since Jerry. Philly and Chicago are I think the best food cities I go to. Hmmm, I think I agree. I love Chicago food too, And I was down in suburban Philly last night and had a delicious cheese steak that I couldn’t even finish. And I can finish food.

That’s me talking, not Jerry Seinfeld. Jerry said, somebody will always recommend something I haven’t heard of, some Giro sandwich place or something, and I love doing that. I wonder if Jerry said Giro’s I’m reading a text hero. If he just said gyros Jerry’s from Queen’s, I’m sure he just said gyros. Lenno was asked, at this stage of your career, the things you find funny now that maybe you didn’t before.

Interesting answer, Leno said, it’s actually the other way around. It’s stuff that we found funny before that you can’t do now. But you know, it’s not bad. Like everything else. In old days, there were women in gay jokes, and it’s probably better that we don’t do those anymore.

I think you can tease and poke fun of people. It’s a classic case of if they’re laughing with you and you’re not laughing at them. I don’t find it that hard. Everybody likes being teased in that sense of humor. You have to know when you cross the line, and it’s a fine line.

In comedy, Bill Birds all the Canton rap that I don’t do her stand up as much as you would think. It’s more I go out and live a life and then I have stuff to talk about. It took me forever to learn that I’m always the butt of the family jokes except with my wife, and she can take it. If you go see Bill Bird. Bill Burr says, what’s great is you’re gonna hear a bunch of stuff that maybe you don’t want to hear, and maybe you can experience something different and laugh and learn something or not like something, and then like the next thing.

Bill talked about playing big venues like Fenway Park or Madison Square Garden. It’s unbelievable. It doesn’t make any sense. You definitely have Imboster syndrome before you go out there, at least I did before I started playing bigger venues. As crazy as it sounds, I’ve kind of gotten used to it.

I approach it the same way as when I was playing half filled comedy clubs. Sam Morrell was on the Creative Control podcast Creative with a K. Control with a K. Is Sam doing political comedy. He says, I look at it as social commentary.

I don’t think it’s political. I’m not condemning either side. Really, when I think of a political comic, I think they’re leaning hard into one side, and I don’t like that. I like the people from both sides can come to my show. I don’t think it’s my job to tell people how to think.

But then inevitably, certain bits will have an angle in a stance, but I don’t like to hammer people that. I think it feels more political, and I don’t like partisan comedy. Look, I dabble occasionally have one. You’re like, Eh, this is gonna tick someone off, But I just think it’s really funny, so ef it. I think there’s fun in making fun of everyone, and I think I’m not doing it in such a harsh way to the person getting hitchouldn’t laugh at it.

But that’s kind of the type of comedy that got me into comedy. When I was a kid, my mom saw me laughing on my discman and she was like, what is he listening to? I was so young. She grab my headphones put it on. It was Chris Rock’s album Roll with the New and I saw this look of horror come over my mind’s face, followed by her laughing, and I was like, Wow, that’s beautiful.

The Chris Rock has the ability to push you there, you know what I mean. That’s when I fell in love with Rock’s comedy at such a young age. He was so good at ticking you off in the setup and then making you how with laughter at the end of the joke. I mean, it’s my favorite type of joke. Bert Kreischer was out surfing.

He shared some video of it. This from surfermagazine dot com You’re home for comedy News. Apparently Bert did, okay, this articles in English and I’m reading it and I’m like, I don’t know what we’re talking about. Bert was so stoked he posted on Instagram and name dropped a few North Shore rippers. Dude, I’m tagging Nathan Florence in this, I’m tagging all the guys.

And apparently he tagged Florence Rothman and Jimmie O’Brien. Surfers are like, yeah, of course he did.

All right, let’s look more at the Vulture list of the comedians you should an…

Twenty five comics who industry insiders predictably be tomorrow superstars Stavrols Halkias. I feel like he’s been kind of visible. Yes no, yes, Yes. Twenty two special Live at the Lodge Room is full of material on his favorite pleasure center. His Body Is His Body, Sex, his sex Life, threesomes, Food, Drugs, and Self Loathing is another special on the way.

He’s been posting clips of his crowd Work for the last year and recently put them together as a half hour crowd Work only special. Gary Golman’s not gonna like that. Rob Hayes a certain he’d be famous by now if he had an interesting story. He tells a joke. Hayes says, I would go to church and they’d be like, God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.

And he says, I’m like, yo, God thinks I’m weak. Is Brian reagan esk nac for attacking subjects from multiple angles was put to great use in twenty twenty one when Hayes and Jamelle Johnson created Sneak This, a sneaker centric sketch show, say that three times fast I did. I got it in the first try. I sort of didn’t do an in it there. They did that for Bleacher Report Kicks that covered everything from engineering a robot to buy sneakers online to the excuses sneaker heads used to justify their spending.

That sounds like a ton of fun. Jordan Jensen is fond of saying she’s like this because she was quote re by a pack of lesbians. She slouches pulse faces, speaks with a growl, and interrupts herself, punctuates thoughts with the word dude. She is not prim jokes are often gloriously gross. She’s obsessed with sex, unseemly behavior, and all the thoughts that should be too unpleasant or uncomfortable to say out loud.

Andrea Jin says Vulture is the polstered child for gen Z Comedy Online. She’s a slightly messy, older sister type, speaking to TikTok and its native language by talking about core memories and past lives regression. On stage, she’s drolly at fashionable, seeming a little bit bored by the act of speaking, and slightly offended when people laugh at her. A very fun bit for comedian to have one more Rachel Kayley, Vulture writes judaism, being gay, mental illness. These are but some of the foundations on which so much comedy is built.

But few minds are able to combine these ingredients into a rich, humorous borsht quite like a Rachel Kayley. Kaylee’s delivery often sounds like thinking out loud, unsettling stand up cliches intentionally stripped of polish, particularly when she records in unlikely places like their apartment or on the side of the road ten minutes special about airplane on airplane is filmed from an economy window seat. I want to be respectful here. I’m not familiar with Rachel, and the Vulture article is using both the pronouns she and they. The parts I read there, I read as they had it written, and that is an awkward thing to take into the commercial breaks.

Let me add one more Edie Mootica. If you’re like, who’s that? Did you watch Jury Duty? You know the main woman that the Jury Duty guys kind of paleling around with and maybe they’re going to hook up, That’s who Ediemotica is. Modica’s characterization of Genie is the character brushes right up next to the line of too far.

She’s full of sexually inappropriate equips, touchy, and often a ridiculous mess, and yet her performance is layered and thoughtful enough to keep it just barely in bounds. Dean Horman’s a little stressed about this community movie because once the actor strike ends, there’s some pretty big people in community. Donald Glover’s a lot more in demand than he was when he first played True. Alison Brie gets a lot of work, you know what, I’m saying here, so Harmon says, the thing that’s gonna matter most to me as an audience member, to anybody who loved that show is seeing that people see each other and they still love each other, and it’s not gonna feel the same if you’re shooting them separately at different months, in different locations. I hate to say out terrified I am to do it wrong, because it’s part of me that knows that that fear can’t possibly result in a good thing, and you’re not gonna get anywhere doing an impression of what you think you should do or what you think they want.

But I really don’t want to do it wrong, and it’s truly terrifying. But then I’m holding onto the hope that being honest with myself about how scared am is at least a way to break the cycle. The Groundlings will be hosting a musical improv fundraiser and the Performing Arts Center in Vista del Mar on October twenty sixth. It’s the Groundlings One Night only. What is this?

They’re trying to raise money for the Motion Picture and Television Fund. It will see stars like Will Forte and a guest I are Kristin Wigg Mikhayela Watkins, Kristin Bell, Jim Rash, the Dean from Community, and a bunch of others. The show is called One Night Only. It will see a full production of a Broadway musical with the improvisers getting their scripts with one day’s notice. That’s fun October twenty sixth, This weekend, It’s the Because of their Funny Comedy Festival that’ll be at the Wharf in Washington, d C.

The comedy event will feature a competition to determine the Breakout Comedian of the Year, a woman focused comedy special on a homecoming lineup featuring black comedians from d C. Jeff Friday is one of the organizers that says, what we’re trying to do now is really spearhead, Who’s the next Monique, Who’s the next deal? Hugh Glee. DC is probably the smartest, most interesting city in the country. You know, it’s not Miami Beach, but this is a really special city.

Tonight it’s the Breakout Comedian of the Year competition hosted by d C Youngfly Saturday, Hey Ladies, Fierce female comedy show that’ll include performances by Leunel, Nicole Bayer, Aggo Nuotam and Aita Rodriguez. That’s a good show. Sunday, The DMV Black Comedy Homecoming Show, hosted by Avon Orgi, features Tommy Davidson, Donnell Rawlings, Tony Woods, and some others. Dcist pointed out notably, Dave Chappelle is not on any lineup during the weekend. They asked about it, and the answer is, Dave’s not a tour.

He said, he’s not in the lineup. We’re hoping him come. A lot of people would invited that aren’t on a lineup, and yeah, same answer. That’s why Dave Chpelle’s not on today’s podcast. And that’s your comedy news for today.

The Shark Deck. Hello Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News Late Night back for like one night, and already the jokes have fallen off a cliff. I went through all the recaps. The only one I really liked was about Donald Trump’s truth social posts referring to late night hosts as low rated creeps of late night television and true losers. Stephen Colbert said, thank you for watching, sir, but I’m not surprised he’s a seventy seven year old white guy.

Of course he’s watching CBS. That was it. Let me flip the order around today and start with an article that I just hadn’t had time to get to this week because it’s been such a busy week. But it’s pretty major article from Vulture, The Comedians You Should and Will Know in twenty twenty three, twenty five comics who industry insiders predict will be tomorrows superstars. Vulture writes.

If you live in New York, LA or Chicago, or you don’t, but you do spend a lot of time on TikTok, you’re well aware that there are almost too many talented comedians you should know sketch group stand ups and people making weird animated videos or singing funny songs in their part, It’s harder than ever to predict which of these performers will end up being a big deal and which of them are just people the algorithm has assigned to you. In particular, Vultra says, these are the comedians you will know because they’re creating all kinds of weird and wonderful work while introducing a range of new perspectives and sensibilities to the art form. Vulture pulled more than a hundred industry insiders, including bookers, producers, artistic directors at theaters, talent scouts, TV executives, heads of podcast networks and comedy record labels, comedy photographers, and previous comedians you should and will know. More than two hundred comedians, duos and groups got at least one vote, But here are the twenty five. I’ll do the overview today.

In the upcoming weeks, I’ll look at some of the breakouts that Vulture did in alphabetical order by last name. Fumi Abbe in his stand up, Abbe rings gold from his internal contradictions, bringing sex jokes down to earth by inevitably focusing on the un sexy details. Bro Humor is a fine line of walk, and Abbe has mastered the ways to make it work by infusing his anecdotes with vulnerability. He has a new podcast, Cash Cuts, in which he puts his analytical streak and friendly but brutal honesty to good use, reading and judging his comedian friend’s critit card statements. That’s fun.

Brian Bahi. I caught him at New Faces in one story where an Asian woman mistakes Baje for an Asian person that she used to know because he’s quote Asian passing. He’s impassive. He goes, yeah, it works. Been crazy.

Ralph Barbosa. If you listen every day, you’ve heard me mention Ralph he out of this group. He and Nimish Patel’s on this list as well. Barbosa’s like right on the verge, if not already there. Barbosa’s joke about climate change, We’ve turned the earth into like a ninety nine hont A civic.

Yeah. I don’t want this to die. This is my only ride, but I’m not going to keep putting money into this thing. You may recall Barbosa hit the news last year when George Lopez said nobody knows who that MFR is why you’re saying his name. Barbosa, seemingly unfazed, reposted the clip to his Instagram with a caption that read, It’s all good, baby, The future is now Old Man Ralph Barbosa’s first hour long special Cowabunga on Netflix October thirty one, so everyone will know who he is.

Then, next up Charlie Bartley and Natalie Roder Lateman from Exploration Live. They teach their audience what it means to be a coffee shop celeb. That’s when you enter a coffee shop and know the barista. It’s a show about ideas, theories, axioms and concepts. The smaller and more discreet, the better, Sophie Buttle.

On The Late Late Show with Gordon in twenty one, Sophie Budle performed a bit about her boyfriend’s schoolgirl fantasy that doubles is a metaphor of her comedic approach. She says, sometimes it’s a grewn up lady. You have to act like a little baby. It’s weirdly a part of growing old. Valtre calls Budle a smart and Wallerhurst comedian reminiscent of a young Sarah Silverman.

Curtis Cook mixes the smart with the dumb, the Vitamin K with the melted cheese, and that’s led to producing comedies like This Fool and American Dad, writing for the Crank Anchors reboot, and a discussion of Kanye West that somehow got the Jim Jeffrey Show audience on board with the idea of the Black Panther Party. Katrina Davis her go to move on stage is to turn one palm upward, cock her head and squinter I at the audience, as if to say, I can’t believe I have to explain this to you. I’ll dive in more on that list tomorrow. Trevor Noah my favorite topic right now. He shared a lengthy post on Instagram about his visit to India.

Deadline says that they’re looking to make a UK version of Lol Last One. Laughing. In the Lol Last One, Laughing, comedians stay in a living room style studio for several hours, during which they have to make the other comedians laugh by any means possible while not reacting to the opponent’s attempts to make them laugh.

At the first laugh, you get a yellow card. If you get a second yellow card, it’s like soccer. That’s a red card and then you’re out. The only way to communicate with the outside is a telephone controlled by the host. Trevor Noah is going to host the South African version.

For the UK version, they don’t know who’s going to host it. In Ireland, it will be hosted by Graham Norton. It’s only a matter of time before that comes to the States. According to Yahoo, that’s his twenty nineteen comment telling Pete Davidson to run from ex girlfriend Kate Beckinsale. Rife said, I gave that advice because I was only speaking for personal experience, having been together and finding out that we weren’t the most compatible match. It aired on September sixteenth from two to six am, with late night viewers seeing the brand spokesperson and Quebec comedian Pierre Luke Funk perform improvised comedy sketches while waiting for his electric vehicle to charge. I don’t know if you like want to go out of your way to remind everybody it takes four hours to charge, and believe me, I’m a big climate change guy. I spend some time in France in March of twenty like, I don’t know, six seconds before the pandemic, and my French was getting like oh heay, like off my accent. Everybody knew that I was clearly not French. If I didn’t speak, I could pass as a local.

People were asking me for directions and they would come up and speak, you know, very quickly to me, and I would just do that I don’t know you’re saying thing. But I was getting around. I was able to order food and stuff and read signs a little rusty. There was this pandemic and I stopped working on my French. I was doing this duelingo.

I was all into. It was pretty good.

And then I don’t know, I got busy.

But when we got to Charles Dagaull Airport, and again this was did I say March no ilid It was Valentine’s Day weekend of twenty twenty. When we landed at a gaul there was a line that was like, are you from China? If you’re in China, you get over there. They were like already not messing around. And I know I just like really did that forcefully.

That’s how it felt us, Like are you from trying to get over there? And it was this whole separate line of people with masks and you guys, stay the heck over there. We don’t mix it with everybody else. It was normal. But then about I don’t know, three days later was the night when the president closed all the airports.

Was like, oh, yeah, you can’t fly from Europe to America. Sucks to be you. And I was like, Oh glad, I’m home. I digress. I was telling you about this thing that aired on French Canadian TV.

That was a David Mitchell series in which he played William Shakespeare. David Mitchell’s hoping they can make more, he says, but at the moment we lack a broadcast partner.

At the moment, no one’s saying they’ll pay to make it so we can make some more. I’m not pointing the finger at the BBC. There are other broadcasters they could all get in such reviews for this sitcom were mostly strong. Ortle says The once lukewarm Telegraph newspaper called the final regular episode forcically funny but with a bittersweet twist good news for my wife only. Murders in the Building has been renewed for a fourth season.
