Caloroga Shark Media. Hey there, I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. Tomorrow on this program, one of two things is going to happen. Either I’m gonna tell you my guest today is Matthew Bissard, or I’m gonna tell you how Matthew Bisard canceled. And I have no reason I think he’s going to cancel.

Well, that’s a plan for tomorrow because I’m taping him in about an hour. Matt Riife’s book came out this week kind of quietly. It took two days for anything on Google to show up. I had kind of forgotten. I don’t know what to make of that, but now he seems to be doing some press.

The book is called Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me, and he talked about his change in looks. Did Matt Rife have plastic surgery. He claims it was simply puberty that led to an accelerated appearance change. He writes puberty, after its sweet time for more than twenty years, finally decided to hit me square in the face. He claims he went from looking like a thirteen year old to an actual Grownish man.

He says his wider and more prominent features were all from a bizarrely stunted journey through puberty. People who have accused him of getting classic surgery have a frightening lack of common sense, and claims that his attractiveness has negatively affected his career. In the book, he says, is a comic, you’re supposed to make the audience like you, right, Well, who the f likes attractive people? No one? Okay.

He did an interview with US Weekly. He says he has no regrets about anything. It’s comedy. Sometimes you don’t hit the mark. Plenty of people think I did.

He was referring to the controversial joke in his November twenty three special Natural Selection. He says, to me, the joke was just that, a joke. I wasn’t trying to make some kind of profound statement about the state of society. I was trying to set the tone for the rest of the show via personal spin on a classic joke. He wrote that practically overnight, and he went from a TikTok sensation to basically canceled.

Maybe it wasn’t dear taste. That’s fine. That happens, not to me very often, but it happens. But that doesn’t make me a support of domestic violence. I mean I grew up with an abusive stepdad.

Verbal abuse, psychological abuse, fiscal abuse I experienced at all. He says. The only negative thing about the special is that people were upset. He says it’s inevitable with almost any comedian. We’re in the business of making people happy.

But I gotta be me. The immense positivity I received at the very beginning of my career can’t last forever. It sought me to respectfully not give a hoot. I know my intentions, I know where my heart lies. Matt turns thirty in September of twenty five and said this was the perfect time to release a memoir and show fans the real hymn.

Not only did I feel it necessary to explain more about my life and everything it took to get here, but it also feels like I’ve already lived a lot. So much of your life when you’re in the public eye is open interpretation. Gave me a chance to tell my story on my terms. Matt Riife went on the view Whoopy Goldberg said the book is wonderful and asked if he recorded the audiobook version. Raife said he did the audiobook a little lazy, but I respect it.

Joy Behar said the comedians are runner attack now. Raife pointed out that his close friend Nate Berghetzi, I didn’t know those two were friends. That’s fascinating. He says. Nate doesn’t come under the same fire for his jokes, which are less raunchy.

That’s where you’d have to decide how much you want to be yourself and how much you want to pander to a community that might not even care about you in the first place. Whoope, Goldberg greed, telling Rife on the panel that comics are always under fire. Inlander spoke to David Cross and I asked him about the people he surrounds himself with. Is that important to his own creativity? Cross said, well, it’s less about importance and just what I prefer.

It’s a great thing that I’m able to do. I mean, I know plenty of people who aren’t creative, but creative people are more fun to hang out with. He talked about his podcasts and said for years I didn’t do one. I had no desire. I don’t listen to podcasts myself.

I have nothing against them. I just don’t occupy my time that way. Then I started doing it. I loved it. It’s really fun.

It is really fun, and they’re just conversations. I would have the why I approach it is what I tell people. It’s just like, imagine we’re strangers and we’re sitting next to each other at a pub that kind of conversation. Wow, it sounds like he went to podcast programming executive school. One oh one.

The amount of meetings I’ve been in. Oh, you know, it’s just a conversation. Cross, Do you get annoyed by people who come up and recite arrested development lines? Cross said, Oh, that’s annoying. I’ve experienced pretty much everything, and by far most people are cool and respectful, but yeah, there are plenty of folks that aren’t.

Good question here, what’s it been like seeing a decent chunk of the commit landscape shift from alt comedy to alt rights comedy. I don’t know if I agree with the premise. It’s a good question, but there’s It’s not like alt comedy went away. Joe Rogan opened a club and Tony Hinchcliff’s podcast took off. That’s it, Relax everybody, Cross it Well, I mean it’s depressing because I’ve never really enjoyed or take import in comedy that punches down and makes fun of the disenfranchised or vulnerable out there.

That’s never been my thing. So it’s a bummer that it’s so celebrated, you know, financially rewarded. I mean, I don’t make one one hundred thirty amount of money that some of those guys are. But I’m going to do my stuff and always be me. I’ve always had a kind of stew of different stuff.

I have very silly jokes. I have some that are kind of a little offensive. I have stuff that’s anecdotal. I’d say easily a third of the set is just about anecdotal stuff. This thing happened to me, or this thing I observed, And then obviously I dip into the current state of affairs.

And there’s always going to be a little religious stuff in there for people who know my body of work, which there are literally decades worth of specials and alms and stuff. It’s that MOA. Mayer’s show is getting a season two. The show is called mo. You may remember this one, the Netflix comedy about a Palestinian immigrant attempting to secure Silomon Houston I either didn’t know or forgot they renewed it.

I like that show a lot. It was very good. The next batch of episodes spoilers, we’ll see Moe stranded across the border and desperate to get back to Houston before his family’s asylum, hearing he’s going to need all the hustle and charm he can muster. Little does he know that the journey home is just the start of his troubles, and there’s a new guy in town ready to steal both his longtime love Maria and his Falafel Tago recipe. Mo back on Netflix January thirtieth, Moa Mara says, I’m thankful to continue to tell a universal story of struggle that relates to so many refugees and millions of underrepresented humans trying to be seen around the globe.

Sarah Silverman was politically active this fall, supporting the losing candidate. After the electoral College numbers came in, Silverman said, I thought, oh God, what am I doing? Why am I on the road right now? I want to go home, But being on the road has made her feel better about the future. Sarah says, it’s been really for whatever it’s worth, a bit of a solve.

I don’t know what fresh air we’re in for, but to be together in a big group of people at night, it’s been nice. Having that kind of feeling connect on a local level has been oddly comforting. The optimist in me feels like community is going to be our savior. Being on tour feels like the beginnings of that for me. Bill Maher, who’s totally not going to quit his HBO show, Stop dude, listen to yesterday’s podcast, mar is taping his next special tonight and tomorrow at the CIBC Theater in Chicago.

A Caster is so impressed by the callback that he says, lovely to have a Heckler in here who appreciates stretcher to be fair to the audience. Heckler’s welcome is in a Caster’s best work. From the title on the setup, you’d expected to be quite a bit of intervention, and maybe that’s what he was expecting, but there isn’t a ton Yeah that was I can’t even get out of sentence. I’m so perplexed by the special. Yeah, I was watching it.

I’m like, where are the Hecklers, what’s going on? Where’s the comedy? And I bailed that life is too short. I got too much to watch. If you can’t get to it in the first seven eight minutes, I gotta move on, Defector, right.

So I wonder if ay Caster thought it’d have more to work with by opening the floor to the Hecklers, But he was a little thrown off by the relational change to his audience. I’m not sure, but I know he’s usually a lot better than this, and they recommend that you check out his previous special Coldasignia Hate Myself nineteen ninety nine for an example. Matt Rife, that browie comedian who sells out arenas and looks like he was manufactured by a chad machine. Hey, look, Matt Rife did not have plastic surgery. He’s made that clear.

The younger crowds, I think enjoy authentic content more than something that’s crafted. Wow, I’m just gonna build a cabin up here on Old Man Mountain then and listen to Old Kamedy. Colin Jos is out there promoting what is it pop culture Jeopardy? I keep wanting to say celebrit Jeopardy. It’s pop culture Jeopardy.

I actually misspoke that in the Wednesday episode. Now to use the AI to replace my own words, you’ll hear someone say pop culture jeopard if you want to go back and hear that at it. Joe said, I found pop Culture Jeopardy harder than regular Jeopardy. I was really impressed. You have to know different erarors really well.

You know, I got a trivia on Wednesday night, and part of it is, you know, my crew and I were reasonably smart and reasonably educated. It depends what the trivia guys pick. Like some nights they hand in I just called them arian and gro questions and I’m like, we have no chance tonight because whatever they’re into, like twenty ten’s music and I’m like, we don’t know any of this.

Joe said, I was fascinated when no one would know something from the nineties, or no one would know something from the early two thousands. Maybe that’s just generational because there were a lot of younger groups competing. Pop Culture is so different for everyone in what sticks with them, and especially in modern things can get very divided because in almost in an algorithmic way, your experience with culture is so fragmented. Joe says, I promise, in no way am I trying to steal Ken Jennings’s job. He’s very good at his job.

I also have a job. He and I texted during the Pop Culture Jeopardy tapings. Actually he was supportive. What he was saying is true. There’s almost no one that knows what it’s like to host the game.

He has released a thirty seven minute set on Twitter. I’ve shared it in the Facebook group Daily Comedy News podcast group. At the thirty four minute mark, he shares a joke that he decided not to tell at the rally. Let’s listen. Well, there’s these hurricanes that have been happening in Florida and it’s just terrible, you know.

So what I think we should do is, I think we should take all the good tax paying Americans when a hurricane is coming into their zone. He put them on flights, fly him somewhere safe like Springfield, Ohio. Take the migrants from Springfield, Ohio, and fly them into the path of the hurricane. Yeah. From what I’ve heard, it’s raining cats and dogs there.

So that’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a little something to wash it all down. I find the joke funny because I understand how jokes work. No one is actually eating cats or dogs. It doesn’t actually rain cats and dogs, and we’re not actually gonna put people on planes. It’s a joke.

That’s how jokes work, and that one’s funny. Larry David has reprised his role as George Steinberner. You may recall he played George Steinberner in several episodes of Seinfeld. Well, he’s now playing Steinberner in a commercial for Fanatics. Those are the guys that have basically ruined all the uniforms in Major League sports in my humble opinion.

Those guys they also own tops cards now, and they are promoting a set that includes a card that never was. It’s a nineteen eighty one Bowman card featuring NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, who was drafted by the Yankees. The spot’s called It’s gotta be Elway. We hear George Steinberner demanding at his executive’s draft John Elway, let’s listen to part of it, all right, mister stein Brainner. For our next pick, the team wants to go with Tony Gwynn, the basketball player.

I don’t think so, it’s gotta be Lway. I want him out in right field with that Canada and armed. Well, Sir Elway, is a great choice, but we prefer Tony Gwynn. He projects to be even better than Keith Hernandez Keith Ornandez. I don’t like that big mustache.

Well, we could really use his hitting at the top of our lineup. Nope, that’s alway. The sky’s the limit for that guy. I can see it all. The kid’s lining up for his baseball card, his name in lights at Yankee Stadium, his name on the side of a car dealership.

I’ve always told you about the importance of a good name. Well, Gwynn is a great name, sir. I mean Wrenn is actually in his name. Comascio mental ruth. It’s gotta be oh way, Oh, make the pick fantastic, sir.

But they add some of the materials sounded dangerously close to cheap insults, like when he explained how he landed his Filipino wife with a coupon and how he wants to launch an Indian dating app called Connect the Dots.

He joked with a Somali in the crowd, saying I’m the captain now. But they right. But Peters has been doing this long enough to avoid stepping over the line. His disarming smile and good natured delivery let him get away with jokes that might otherwise lead to a bar fight. He says, I don’t look at you like an ade I look at us like friends hanging out.

Isn’t that nice? Maybe comedy could be comedy again now, The Star Tribune points out opening act Adam Hunter practically dared the audience to gasp after one shocker. They have two sources, one negative, one positive.

His team keeps trying to get him to go on social media, so he went on, but then he got back off. The guy’s really hard to work with. He’s actually continuously getting offers, but he’s figuring out exactly what he wants.

He’s looking at some things for the spring, which hopefully will be announced in January. Is things going in the right direction, and he’s considering a bunch of different projects which will likely be confirmed sometime in the new year. An insider, perhaps a third insider, says Pete has a therapist in Florida who works on processing traumatic memories and dealing with pettsd Pete travels to see the therapist on a regular basis for treatment. But Pete is currently clean and in a good headspace. So a phrase I increasingly use his iage is many things can be true at once.

One I could see and I talked about this recently, where people don’t want to sign Pete Davidson up for a deal because they’re not sure that he’ll actually show up for work. Put that aside. Two, we can be kind and supportive of Pete Davidson and hope that he finds a good path. Put that aside. And point number three.

You know, everybody who works with the guy seems to love the guy. So he’s clearly not a jerky face. He’s clearly somebody who’s loved and he’s openly going through some struggles, and I personally hope he finds that good path. Oh, I forgot to share. I saw a funny thread.

The Vermont Comedy Festival is back baby tonight through the eighth. You’ll find it at Bridgewater’s Woolen Mill Comedy Club, which sounds like a nice place. Your headliner is Tim Meadows. The Vermont Comedy Festival is the brainchild of Matt and Colleen to comics who love Vermont as much as they love performing. Colleen Doyle says, a lot of what we do with the Vermont Comedy Festivals try to be ambassadors for the area where we do the festivals, not the largest metropolis in Vermont, which of course is you know that one.

It’s Burlington. I guess I don’t know Gotham City. I don’t know, but I say that I’m silly today, but I say it’s the most quintessential part of Vermont. If you’re in the Woodstock Killington area for a couple of days, people feel like they really they had Vermont experience. I had a terrific Vermont experience.

Was back in April for the total eclipse. I drove up to Burlington. The local tourism people hooked me up with some parking. I hang out overlooking the lake there, watch the sun get blotted out. Walked around Burlington downtown, old town.

I don’t know what you call it, but it’s very nice. I had a good time. Been trying to tell my wife we should go up there for a weekend. Really like the Burlington. The festival opens today with a one minute comedy battle that includes all performers, allowing audience members to see a snippet of everyone as performance times for longest sets do overlap.

Uh oh, it’s the kill tonyism of comedy. If festivals start doing one minute battles, the established comedians are gonna get so mad at this. Can you imagine telling Tim Meadows, hey, I need you to do a minute You could picture Tim Meadow’s face right, He’s made the face and a million S and L sketches. Oh my goodness. I’m supportive here, but comedians aren’t gonna like that, all right.

Tonight eight o’clock One Minute Stand Up Battle ten o’clock is the festival kickoff dance party, presented by Plymouth Cheese. I’ll give them a plug Tomorrow the main stage show and the late show and the late late show at eight ten and midnight, and a bunch of shows over the weekend. Caloroga Shark Media. Hey my voice is back. Hello Johnnie Mack with your Daily Comedy News. Now I’m supposed to lead off with like whatever the biggest name is. That’s how this is supposed to work.

But I’m gonna indulge myself here because I’m really excited. Netflix has announced a January second premiere for Kunk on Life. I don’t know if you watched Kunk on Earth. It was my favorite thing last year. British comedian Diane Morgan is returning to Netflix in January with Kunk on Life, a new one off special I wish we were getting like ata Those centered on her comedic documentarian character Filimina Kunk.

The Specialties Kunk returned with her most ambitious quest to date, venturing right up to the universe and everything to examine life itself. The tagline what’s the point of it all? Is a question humans have been asking themselves since the dawn of time. But as we cling to our dying planet, working around the clock while we’re slowly being replaced by machines, Now that’s funny. Now, more than ever, people are desperately looking to make sense of their lives before or someone invents a computer that makes sense of it for them.

Seriously, if you haven’t watched Kunk on Life, it’s on Netflix. It is hilarious and there’s a recurring bit that just gets funnier and funnier and funnier. I loved Kunk on Earth. Conk on Life, we’ll see Fillamina tackle some of the most complex concepts to ever been discovered, including quantum physics, existentialism, nihilism, hedonism, and at least four other isms. We already knew that December fourteenth, Chris Rock will host for the fourth time. December twenty first, Martin Short not bad there. Nate Berghatsey announced a world tour which was just horrific. If you were trying to put together a comedy podcast today, were you to use Google and type in the word comedy or comedian. You were bombed by every headline being Nate Pergetzi to play the whatever arena.

It was very hard to get rid of all the Nate stuff today and find things to talk about. Geez, Nate’s pretty busy. He’s got his Lorne Michael’s produced a CBS Christmas special on December nineteenth. Your friend Nate Bergetzy’s coming out on Netflix December twenty fourth. Did we know that date there?

I feel like that’s news to me. Huh. Interesting. He’s also working on a film called The Breadwinner, and he’s got that book coming out next year. The tour is sixty six dates, including stops in North America, Europe, in the Middle East.

The tour opens in Oslo. Now I’m gonna check here. I’ve got a little document here. If I knew this, I would have placed it in the December twenty fourth folder. No, I don’t have it there.

Interesting is that news? I guess this has been out there from October ninth, right. I’m forgetful sometimes anyway, your friend Nate Bergetzi Christmas Eve. I got news for you, Nate, that’s not making the end of the year top whatever specials of the year, because Jenny Max’s pre taping that one. At least I’m waiting to like December twentieth or so.

A lot of these lists come out like December first. It’s like, hey, guys, we’re skipping a whole month here. Anyway, I digress. Joe Rogan, he’s making a lot of headlines lately. He weighed in on this old Jamie Fox conspiracy thing.

Did Jamie Fox accuse Diddy of poisoning Jamie causing Jamie’s health scare? Jamie apparently says this in his Netflix special, which is out next week. People at the taping think Jamie was joking. Joe Rogan on his podcast said, Jamie Fox just recently said, p did he poison him and that’s why he got that stroke? And Rogan back pedaled, it’s possible.

It’s totally possible, but it’s also possible he was explaining why he went to the hospital and hasn’t talked about it since. We won’t know until we see the actual Jamie Fox Netflix special. That’s right, Joe Rogan. Now, the rumors come from somebody on the internet named Big Homie. Big Hoomy said, I know Comb’s poisoned Jamie Fox, and Jamie Fox reported him to the FBI because of it.

Jamie Fox reported this man to the FBI because of this. Another source, videographer Choke No Joke, also made a similar claim. During an interview on Comedy Hype, Choke No Joke said, y’all can determine was he joking or not when you see the show, because to me, I’m a new comedian, right, I know when somebody’s setting up a punchline and I know when you’re serious. My personal take, I would assume mister Fox was joking. I mean, if you were going to accuse Diddy of such things, would a comedy special be the place where you would do this?

Would you not like come out and say it. So I think everybody is getting a little carried away here, but we’ll find out. Next Tuesday, we got an update on Pete Davidson and Colin Joe’s ferry. TMZ revealed that the ferry was used as a set for a horror flick called Screamboat. According to their report, production reportedly involved so much fake blood that producers needed to hire a special cleaning crew to get the ferry back to normal.

Now it’s interesting to me, and no coincidence that we’re getting ferry updates, because what do you know, Colin Jos has a new show out today. Wow, that’s weird. Suddenly we hear about the ferry and we’re getting Colin Joe’s press and what do you know, He’s got a new show out today. He is the host of pop Culture Jeopardy out today on Prime Video. The Ringer caught up with Colin Jost.

They asked, Colin, hey, you had your own game show and the works before pop Culture Jeopardy, right, I didn’t know that. That’s interesting. Joe said, yeah, Chay and I are develpming a game show with Michael Davies. And that’s how I met him, not knowing at all his involvement and millionaire and not knowing he was doing Jeopardy. Those were my reference points.

I wanted a game that had great trivia and was a serious trivia game. I don’t ever want to do a game show that failed gimmicky or two game based like physical games or anything. I wanted to have an intellectual component because that’s what I loved about watching Jeopardy. You hear my voice falling apart now, right, I’m trying, guys. I watch a bunch of old episodes from different eras and just got a sense of the flow of it.

What I realized even before coming in there is the game itself is really the star of the show. It’s constructed so well. You just want to get out of the way. You don’t interrupt gameplay too much, and you want to get right into the game as quickly as possible. And if you watch any regular episode of Jeopardy through the years, that’s what the host do really well.

The ringer asked if his sn L training helped it all. He said, one thing they told me is how they’ve had guest hosts that they’ve had some that are just not good at cold reading. You’re reading sixty one clues in a game, and then suddenly you have a lot of cold reading that you’re just doing. You see everything in advance, but you still never know what order it’s going to pop up in. So weirdly, a thing that prepared me very well was the joke swap that we do at SNL, because I’m also cold reading that and it’s live.

I weirdly had confidence from being forced to do that by Michael Jade gave me confidence. If you don’t want to read a clue, I was at least not going to be in racial Jeopardy. You talked about a quirk to the show. I found this interesting, saying an answer to a question is the Pixie song where is my Mind? If the answer itself is a question, then you don’t have to say what is where is my mind?

Interesting As a new host, you’re so trained by the Jeopardy rhythm, you want to say, no, what is where is my mind? And that’s not technically necessary. I had no idea. He also says they wrote all the clues not knowing who the host was going to be, so it was weird. There were times when it was funny.

There’d be things about my colleagues and my friends that came up and they’d be totally benign, which was just funny to see them. Or clues about my wife, Scarlet Johansen. At some point you’re almost like, I think they shouldn’t have some clue involving my wife in every episode. It was completely by chance. It turns out she’s in a lot of movies.

And it’s a year later and making a joke about it, I understand it. Many things can be true at once. First, don’t drive under the influence. And two, when bad things happen in your life, you can make com you can make jokes about them. I get it.

Late Night reacted to the partning of Hunter Biden, John Stewart said, and I think John Nail did here. Biden’s an eighty two old man. He doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life visiting his son in prison. Stewart continued, hypocrisy isn’t illegal, nor is it particularly unusual in politics. It’s not like he’s ever gonna run again, so why not take airy kid?

Even if he said you weren’t going to I respect it. I don’t have a problem with it. The problem is the rest of the Democrats made Biden’s pledge not pardon Hunter the foundation of their defense of America. Jimmy Kimmel said, Biden did say he wasn’t going to pardon a Hunter, but to be fair, there’s a very good chance he doesn’t remember saying that. Kimill again, Now, I’m not a presidential historian, but I believe this is the first time a US president has pardoned both his son and a turkey in the same week.

Jimmy Fallon said Democrats are divided. Some of them are upset while others are. Hunter Biden and Jimmy Carr got involved with a controversy. He posted I’m in Macedonia, the homeland of Alexander the Great, who, fun fact, has the same middle name as Winnie the Pooh. Think about it.

That post led to heated comments. Gor did not engage with them. Then when Carr got to Serbia, he posted the same joke. It is unclear if he wanted to and the controversy or he was trying to address historical and accuracies. And that is your comedy news for today.

He wants to be a man of the people, separating himself from the pretentious stereotype of the festival, even though hundreds of fringe shows are better than this.

Yet, for his claims about opening up, there’s very little it’s personal here, other than reminding us he was a working class before he became moneyed, and a bit of meditation on aging. Even in a relatively short show about seventy five minutes, he runs out of steam at the end Spoilers, he recounts trying to get a mischievous gag pass the lawyers into his Golden Globes monologues, which is a decent chat show anecdote but seems a stretch for stand up and the closer spoilers is about the football chance. Sir Elton John used to endure during the nineteen eight eighties about his sexuality. But here’s Jervaise forty years later, generating cackles largely his own out of quote backs against the wall unquote type jokes. He may be mocking how silly it is, but the laughs essentially come from the same sentiment.

It’s childish and dated at worst, low level homophobia at worst. Chorto wraps up with Jervase can be better than this, that he chooses not to says a lot. Ricky was on the Stick to Football podcast and said, I don’t go out there and just say the first thing that comes to my head, thinking there are no consequences. I don’t do that, so I have to be able to justify it. Everything I do, I’ve got to be able to go That’s why it’s okay.

A lot of my stuff, because we’re dealing with taboo subjects, seems worse than it actually is. If you analyze it, it’s not that bad. It’s just because you’re dealing with contentious subjects and buzzwords and when people gas. If you look at the jokes, it’s fine, I’d say. I guess this is part of the Hulu deal. On Thanksgiving it on Black Friday, Jim social media had devolved into either watch my special or sign up for Hulu. I feel like your social media has to be a mix of obviously promotional stuff. I promote my stuff on social media, totally get it, but we have to mix in some personal stuff. And Jim’s account had just evolved into Hey, watch my stand up special and hey, sign up for Hulu.

And I assume that’s part of the big marketing deal with Hulu. I get it. But Jim, you know you could wish us a happy Thanksgiving in between selling us stuff. It’s just it’s not a good look. Bro a lot of articles about Joe Rogan.

On Thanksgiving, Joe dropped a four hour podcast which features Shane Gillis, Mark Norman, and Ari Shaffer. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it at the time of this recording. I started to listen to it Thanksgiving night as I was drifting off to sleep, and it was just going to be too loud, so I held off on it. And you know, four hours there’s a lot of great guests right, Mark Norman, Shane Gillis, Ari, Joe Rogan. That’s great anyway.

On that episode, Newsweek reports that Rogan claims he invited Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to come on the show. Very interesting. I’d listen to the heck out of that. On his podcast, Rogan discusses the possibility of a war with Russia and said, I don’t really think Putin’s that stupid. I think he’s going to realize what’s going on, and I think they’re probably working this out.

Rogan then said Zelenski tried to come on. His guests seems shocked, and he says they tried to get Zelenski on. I was like, what are you talking about? So I’m a little confused there. I’ll have to listen to that myself, you know what, let me see if I can pull the clip.

Hang on, he tried to come on. WHOA. I was like, what are you hugging about? Do you when you get an offer for somebody, they must come at your bookers or whatever? H huh do you go?

Do you like stopping? Like? Hold on, let me think about this, whether I want to be part of the story or not, whether it’ll be interesting or not. Well. I wanted to stay out of the presidential election tow It’s gross because I feel like I had to.

I feel like this is so nuts. This is so nuts. When that Tim Waltz guy, that guy’s it’s so nuts that guy was gonna be the vice president. You’re telling me, you’re telling me this whole thing’s fake. Then you’re telling me you don’t care if someone’s a liar.

You don’t care. If they lied about their military rank, where they served, you don’t care if they lie about being a sit you don’t care. Ifully lie about Tianaman Square. There’s too many things. This is so crazy.

Back on the November twenty second episode, Joe had said, Zelensky says, Putin is terrified f you man. Few people. You people are about to start World War three. A lot of talk about the Democrats needing the liberal Joe Rogan that whole notion to me is so funny. Here Rogan said, I think these call her Daddy podcast shows and all these different shows that Harris went on.

I mean, I’m sure they had an impact, but I think that in the future, I’m sure they’re scrambling to try and create their own version of this show. Some people point out that Joe Rogan endorsed Bernie Sanders in twenty twenty. That’s not that long ago, so maybe the liberal Joe Rogan was Joe Rogan.

Meanwhile, in Australia, a big controversy.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation chairman Kim Williams said, I think people like mister Rogan pray on people’s vulnerabilities. They pray on fear, they pray on anxiety, they pray on all the elements that contribute to uncertainty in society. I personally find it repulsive and to think that someone has such remarkable power in the United States is something that I look at and disbelief. That did not go over well.

Speaking of Shane Gillis, Tires is coming back for a second season.

Thomas Hayden Church has joined the cast in season two of Tires. After the unexpected success of their big marketing idea, Will and Shane rush to grow personally and professionally without fully realizing the cost of doing business. Thomas Hayden Church will play Phil, who is Shane’s wealthy but immature father, a grown up version of Shane. Phil enjoys owning various businesses in Florida, where he resides, throwing back Margarita’s and flirting with waitresses. I like the season one of Tires a lot.

I think since it’s been on, Shane has become only even more popular and Stavi has become more popular. So season two of that will probably do really well. No date yet, so you hear my voice, which is why I had the Johnny Macbot host yesterday. Again, I’m not trying to trick you guys. I’m not going to get lazy.

I’m not going to start having the AI host the show. But I think if you’re here to listen to the front end of Sunday and you hear me today, that’s what that was about. So how did I do it? I train the AI on four different scripts of this show and three hours of audio to both teach it how I speak, both sonically but also my cadence and the types of words I use. So I had my normal script that I write, and I put it into the AI, and I made some tweaks here and there and to make it sound more like me, and I thought it came out pretty good.

I mean, if you pay a lot of attention. It’s obviously not actually me, but if you’re half listening, it totally works. So in a pinch, I’m glad I have that. Since I started this podcast five years ago, I was always wondering what happens if I get COVID. I don’t have COVID, took a COVID test.

This is just like this bronchial thing. I wake upvery morning to like I swallowed a knife. And I’ve lived in fear of like what if I can’t do the show, And I’ve always want to feel healthy. I have extra episodes, and I still have those extra episodes that I’ve just you know, they’re like the top fifteen comedians of all time my thoughts on that, and they’re just sitting there for a rainy day. But now that I have this new technology, I’m like, oh, okay, there are options.

So that’s what that’s about. I’m not gonna do it all the time. I’m not going anywhere, but you hear how I sound out On Netflix today, Fortune Femster is a new special, Crushing It. She shares stories from her life, including her romantic honeymoon with her wife and her reflections I’m no longer being her mom’s sorr good husband. I thought the trailer was really strong.

Let’s listen. So something happened when I met Jackson I did not expect. My mom got a little jealous. Yeah. I remember.

If I would buy Jack something like a scarf, my mom would be like, I like scarfs. I’m like, you’re not my girlfriend. Their birthdays are five days apart, which is my nightmare. I get heart palpitations in February. I remember early on in my relationship, it was very popular to go on Facebook and profess your love for whoever you were with.

Are you okay? I’m fine? What are you doing? I’m on Facebook. I was looking at my messages and I don’t see one from you.

And I know your thumbs work because you use them. Five days ago, I sent you an edible arrangement? What is this? She was pissed, so I had to unfriend her. And since I sound like crap.

Caloroga Shark Media Happy Monday, I’m the Johnny Macbot with today’s Daily Comedy News. Cracked asked Anthony Jesselnick what makes you better than your peers. Anthony said, I would say, as politically as I can, that I have a higher bar. I write more jokes, and I fail with more jokes in order to get to that great one where some people just say that’s good enough. Like some people are like, well, I’m just gonna go up there and talk and they get a laugh, and you know that’s okay.

Lest I think some comics they say something backstage and their friends laugh and they’re like, oh great, and they go out and they say it on stage and the audience doesn’t laugh, and they’re like, huh, it’s still a good joke. That’s not the way it works. I don’t think I’m more talented. I don’t think i’m smarter. I just think I have a little bit of a higher bar.

That’s why it takes longer in between specials. I choose fewer projects because I really want to make every little bit of it great. But I think some people are like, you know what, let’s just make that wall look good and we’ll ignore the rest of the room. There’s a subculture on YouTube where they collect clips and then put them together, and they’re making just as much money as everybody else. There was one where I was making fun of Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura for a lot of the stuff they were doing, but it was very subtle.

Then I run into Bert Kreischer at the comedy store and he’s acting a little weird and he’s just not as gregarious as normal. And I get home and I see they put together all of these clips into one thing, and when you put it in without context, it looks like I’m trying to bury the guy. And it’s like, no, I’m just messing around. I think I’m just too well versed in what’s going on in comedy. I shouldn’t know anything about what Tim Dillon did last month, and I know so so much.

If I didn’t, would I be angry? Would I ever think about it again? They also asked him about the shade he throws in Chappelle’s general direction in the new special. Jesselnick said, it’s more powerful to not use his name, but I can’t imagine you watch that bit without thinking that’s exactly who I’m talking about He’s considered the greatest stand up comic alive right now, and he’s been riding this wave of bull crap for so so long that I think it would have done the bit a disservice to actually say his name, But I don’t know how you could watch that without understanding it. I hope that, in the same way that I think that thoughts and prayers stop people from saying thoughts and prayers, I would hope that my trans bit squashes ninety nine percent of trans material.

I think obviously make fun of these people, but you can make jokes about race without the racial slurs. That’s something that I will never condone in comedy. I’m hoping that maybe people will up their game a little bit, especially in terms of trans material. It doesn’t have to be this lightning rod. It can just be a subject.

Jim Gaffigan and Conan O’Brien recently praised Martin Short as comedy’s most devastating roaster, surpassing even Don Rickles. Wow. Gaffigan was on Conan and said Short is beyond a doubt, the quickest, the meanest, and so funny. That’s pretty high praise. Wow, Jim said at a recent show at the Beacon, he literally walked out and stole the whole show, just dressing us down for five minutes, and he left.

He’s seventy five years old. He walked out, ripped into us left, and everyone’s like, well, that’s the best part of the show. Cohen In said, the writing is so sharp. He can do it ad lib, but I think he as so has some jokes prepared ahead of time. He can hide in the fat suit and say things like, you know, your career never quite took off, now did it.

I wish I hadn’t been so judgmental about stuff that I didn’t want to do or didn’t want to do when I was younger. I know my position in this strange universe is to be the silly one. So I’ll be the silly one and I’ll look foolish if it works.

There’s so many ways to be creative and to express yourself other than how I saw it through the tunnel vision of a young actor’s eyes. I’ve never really thought i’d be a stand up, and that’s been my main meal ticket. I still love it after twenty plus years, and I’ve been an actor even longer. I find the more you practice your art, the more peace you have in your life. These days, we’re always looking for quick fixes to this simple pain of existence.

But if you find something that can be an outlet for what you need to express yourself in this world, and you can make a couple bucks at it, it’s pretty incredible. Matt also loves being a dad. It’s one of those things I never thought I would get a chance to do, and it takes over everything in my life in the best possible way and gives me an incredible perspective. It’s just like, you know, here’s a premise, and now I say something twisted and dark, over and over and over and over and over, like I get that’s what the act is, but it’s tired. Seven minutes I made it into that one. The Daily Beast dusted off some background on the Rogan versus Anthony battle here. Jessinnick was on THEO Vaughn’s podcast back In twenty twenty three, The Daily Beast writes, Jessinic pushes back on comedians who believe they should be able to say whatever they want. He said, that’s wrong as far as I’m concerned.

People think as a comic, their job is to get in trouble, but they don’t want to get yelled at. It’s okay to make people mad, but they don’t want any pushback. If you put out a special and everyone’s ticked, he didn’t get away with it. You need to make everyone laugh, that’s right, otherwise you’re just a troll. If your audience is more conservative, do you worry that they’re enjoying your jokes but not in the way you intend? Jeslinix. Sometimes it doesn’t really matter to me. I have one joke where I say I’m against cancel culture. In the audience cheers, I think they’re playing along.

I think they know that I’m making fun of people who say that they’re going to cheer because that’s what a hack comedy the audience would cheer for. Sometimes I think they’re cheering because they know what’s about to happen. I rarely think they’re cheering because, yeah, he’s on our side. Because they know I’m gonna pull out the rug from them if they’re coming to buy a ticket, They’re like, I’m happy to have the rug pulled out from underneath me. My audience is smart enough not to have to agree with everything I say to themselves and then ay of you lost and I showed his jobs because being material.

Justin Ix said, I was always sprised that I was able to get on TV at all. What the five minutes jokes that I’d tell I was doing my actor try to audition? I have somebody hire me to write for them. I never thought I’d be a stand up of this magnitude, just because I thought they’re not gonna let me on TV with this. And this was before Netflix.

It was like, could you get on Conan? Can you get on premium Blend? And I wasn’t sure in the beginning. I also watched James Acaster’s special, and by watched, I mean stared at it for eight minutes wondering, what are you even trying to do here? I’m just bewildered.

I got the premise that people were allowed to heckle him, but maybe then, if that’s the premisure selling, maybe have somebody heckle in those first eight minutes. Uh wow. I mean I didn’t like Justin k special at all, but at least like I get it Acast I didn’t get it all, neither one of them. We’ll make my end of the Year list. I’d rather watch an Adam Sailor comedy and be honest.

Vulture spoke to Acastor their question, if you could conceive of a version of stand up where there was no audience, what would yours look like? Acaster said, when bo Burnham did Inside, I think every stand up had the thought of, oh, shoot, he’s done the thing a lot of us have been thinking throughout a career. He was so amazing at I think the answer I’ve landed on and someone will do this at some point is the other way around.

There’s no comedian, but there’s an audience, so you go to the Abba voyage route of having a hologram. I went to see Abba and I got a jacket there and originally in the show and wear it on stage and not reference it. Someone will do it someday. I’ll be very jealous of that person. If I’m not the one who’s done it, I probably won’t be because the admin alone seems like a nightmare.

Caloroga Shark Media. Hi there, I’m Johnny Mac with your daily comedy. Hears. You’re feeling a little heavy after Thanksgiving and the leftovers, you should lose some weight. Like Jim Gaffigan who Till the La Times.

I wish there was some romantic story surrounding his weight loss, but it really came down to my doctor who brought it up. She said, I know she’d gained a fair amount of weight. In the nineties. I was working out twice a day to be thin, and then once I had kids, I was desperately trying to find time to work out, and then it got to a point where my kniece didn’t work. So my doctor said, you can try these appetites of pressents and I’m like, yeah, sure, but I didn’t have an expectation it would work, even when I was working out twice a day.

I have a joke where I was like, I need to work out a lot just to look like someone who doesn’t work out, and I was pleasantly surprised when it worked. That joke speaks to me because I go up and down ten pounds in like a day, So I’ll go out for an eight mile run. I lose a lot of water weight, and I’m like, I feel good, and then I come home and have you know, three cookies, and then I’m back up ten pounds. My body’s crazy like that. But even when I’m in marathon shape, I will say to people, I have to work really hard to look this fat.

Like, if you ever see me walking around it, I don’t one hundred and sixty pounds. You might start wondering who’s going to take over this podcast after me, which is a good question. Hopefully we have another fifty years before we have to consider that one. Ronnie Ching has spoke to the Wall Street Journal, thank you, friend of the show, Scott Beckett for setting this one over. Ronnie said his first exposure to American comedy was watching Jerry Seinfeld’s stand up intervals on Seinfeld back in Singapore, I watched Late Show with David Letterman on TV and the comics who came on his show.

Initially, I didn’t think I could do what they did. I watched because stand up looked interesting. Comedians would walk on stage, talk to the audience, make jokes and people laughed. He wound up living in Australia and said it took me two months to get a handle on the Melbourne comedy scene. Performing in English wasn’t a problem during our Manchester years.

My parents spoke to me in English, so it was my first language. As for my delivery, that’s a matter of developing the skill set and listening for the rhythm, the timing, the attitude, when to pause and so on. That came gig after gig. In twenty thirteen, Trevor Noah and I were on a bill at Just for Laughs. In myal I already knew him from the festival a year earlier.

Two years later I received an email inviting me to audition for The Daily Show, which Trevor had started hosting. I planned to move to New York anyway. Going from Australia to the Daily Show was such a step up. I have Trevor to thank, as well as John Oliver, who gave me guidance. Adam Ray was asked what was the re action from Doctor Phil’s camp when he found out about your show.

If you haven’t watched Adam Ray on Netflix, it is very funny. Adam said, I’ve been doing the show a little over a year and had never met him. His son reached out to me on Instagram was like, we’ve got to get my dad on your show. We got in touch with his publiciste and went back and forth for like six or seven months. Yeah, I’ve been there, done that.

That’s annoying. I’d almost given up, but then I was like, okay, here’s three more dates. They said, September eighteenth works. I FaceTime with Phil maybe an hour before makeup, just talk through what the show would look like. Then we locked up everyone’s phones.

No one knew and Phil was awesome. The grad went nuts, and the whole show was great. I asked him if he was online, and he was like, that’s how I found you. My son was like, you got to see this, and I’ll admit it’s hysterical. He gave me some nice flowers during the show, but he also told me backstage, you would have known a long time ago if I wasn’t cool with this little thread there.

Wow. I think he and his fans know that my intentions are pure with the character, and it’s also made him popular in a space that he might otherwise not be. And I think he’s got to be enjoying this extra pump of recognition right. He was also asked what would it be like if Doctor Phil went on tour, is Adam Ray Now that’s funny? Adam said, I don’t know if he has the cavs for it, but I’m sure he can get the voice down.

I’d watch it more from that big piece. On Crack to dot Com with Anthony Jessel Nick, Jessa Nick talked about not getting along with Norm MacDonald on Last Comic Standing and said it was anger, but it wasn’t anger that we’re not jelling. It’s Norm’s a difficult person. I’m a difficult person. It’s not crazy that we’re not chilling.

Honestly, it’s almost an honor. It’s like someone telling you you remind him of your dad. But Norman and I were both very angry that we took the job. We were mad that we had to be there for the amount of time we had to be there. We thought we were getting into something else, and so for those eight episodes we weren’t mad at each other.

We were just mad, and when we butted heads it was a lot. We both wish we had gone back and not taken that job. I think everybody hates Last Comic Standing. I used to hate it because, you know, at serious I was the comedy expert, and people would come in and be like, to watch Last Comic Standing, Do you see so and so? And I’m like, yes, so and so is hysterical for forty seconds.

I understand why you think so and so is hysterical for forty seconds.

And then I would illustrate even stupid Johnny Mac can be hysterical for fort…

The example I used to use is a line I later heard Dave Chappelle say, and I later heard President Trump say. I would say something so out of character for me, so vulgar, that people would be so shocked and laughed, and I’d be like yeah, and I would point out I didn’t even tell a joke there. I just said something shocking and you laughed at it. Anyway, Last Comic Standing nobody liked that show. Cracked asked Anthony, what makes you a difficult person.

He said, I’m not the friendliest. You can work with me and think he was totally professional. He was great, but I don’t really have a sense of who he is. We didn’t really hang out. I’m not trying to bond with everybody.

Let’s just be professional and do our jobs. People on the road with me are like, he’s professionally, he does his jock. We don’t hang out much, but I’m not mean. Norm wasn’t mean. It was just aloof And when you’re trying to go and connect with that becomes difficult.

When the two of us going back and forth on stage. I was looking forward it and he was not, and that was difficult. Why don’t you want to hang out? Dan Denny? There’s a lot of comedians who said is the least important thing of their night.

It’s the hangout. It’s who you’re gonna see. We’re gonna go to this other club. Watch someone else said, I’m not doing that. I’m never gonna do that.

I’m like, I’m gonna do my work and go home. That’s the job to be. The fun part is the writing. Even before I stopped drinking, I was never a go out person. I don’t want to meet people after the show.

I want to get back to my room, relax, read a book. That’s the job. Would he ever just become a writer? He said, I love being up there. Obviously there’s an adrenaline that comes from that.

Also, these are my jokes. Most people wouldn’t tell them not just wouldn’t tell them the way I tell them, They wouldn’t tell them at all. Early in my career, if Sarah Silverman had said, I want to buy you for life, just write jokes for me, I would have happily done that watching her tell my jokes. If I thought a joke was great, Sarah Silverman always thought it was great. Jimmy Kimmel always thought it was great and did his best to do it.

I would have been happy writing for them for a while. Anyway, was in my twenties when I wrote for them jokes here and there, but I enjoyed that. When you get into Jimmy Falln, it’s not a knocking a inint Jimmy Faun. But Jimmy Fallon couldn’t tell my jokes. He wouldn’t have the job he has today if he told any of them.

The editor points out. Jessainnick was hired to write on Late Night with Jimmy Foun in two thousand and nine. Someone says, I hate the travel, I hate the sound check, but I love being on stage with a thousand people were there to communally laugh at this darkness. That’s something that I’ve grown into and I wouldn’t want to give it up. NBR spoke to DJ Dimmers.

He has hearing loss and says he doesn’t want to be the hearing aid guy to reach others in the deaf community. DJ Demmers is often joined on stage by a sign language interpreter, Jennifer Lees, has interpreted many of his shows. DJ says without his hearing aids, he’s considered deaf when he takes them out to sleep at sketchy hotels, he jokes, I’m very easy to murder, and since hearing aids aren’t waterproof, pool parties are a nightmare, and I’m not very good at marco polo. This is funny. He’s a new dad.

People warn him to be ready for a lot of sleepless nights and he jokes, it’s been pretty chilled. Loved eltmore, but got this damn disability, you know. Interpreter Jennifer said, I’ve seen concerts with interpreters from music, and I’ve seen lots of spoken word stuff, but comedy definitely there was a gap there for deaf and hard of hearing consumers who just want to be able to go out to yuk yuks in one of the other comedy chains. And have some fun. Nobody’s ever talked about hearing loss in a funny way, you know, people very rarely talk about it at all, never mind with an incredible insight into how awkward and strange communication can be.

Demer said, if I really leaned into being the hearing aid guy, I could capture that market. But at what cost? I have to explore more beyond it just to be artistically fulfilled, all right. The folks over at late night are noticed during a broadcast of aew Dynamite Wrestling on TBS that somebody was holding a sign that said bring Tunsis back for SNL fifty. You may recall the sketch on SNL tune Sis the cat who could drive a car.

It was the same joke over and over, never not hilarious. Tunsis Spoilers was a cat who could drive a car? You’ve had thirty years spoilers. At the end of every sketch we would learn that the cat cannot drive very well and the car would always crash. They would use the same piece of footage every time.

Look on the driving reached the hurtles. The dude with the sign is Jose Echeveria. He said, I see a lot of pop culture signs about yesteryear at aw shows. We haven’t seen Tunsus on SNL since ninety three, so I felt Tunsis was the way to go. I thought about making a Simpsons reference, which I’ve done in the past at a w W B Rass show.

But a year ago I saw somebody on social media repost a Tunsa’s Giff Jiff. I say, Giff, send me a letter, and that’s what got the juices flowing you Jiff. People are insane. It’s a hard g look at the word. Robert Smigel recently said on Mark Malkoff’s Late Night Or podcast, a Fantastic podcast, Michael said, I have to admit I was obsessed with Tunss.

I was obsessed with particularly the opening credits where they used the live cat and they had the two arms operating the steering wheel. I mean, I’ve never seen that done before. Eagle Wit is one of Vulture’s comedians. You should and will know Wor Showever, I did a show at Jamaican restaurant where they would pay us in food. I’ve done it a few times and it was always a somewhat impossible show.

This particular night was so bad. They gave us food and money because they felt bad about how rough the show was. Biggest financial hurdle you’ve encountered since being a comedian. We used to get dollar slices in between open mics, and a fellow comedian would put hot sauce on the slices because it was almost like getting a Pepperoni slice, but didn’t cost pepperoni money. He was right.

I used to go home every night and eat ramen with canned peas and tuna, sometimes corn. What comedy hill? Will you die? On? Social media is good for the business side of comedy, but terrible for the art of comedy.

And I’m not just talking about the crowd work thing. I don’t believe material gets enough time to develop In this sprint era of comedy. Quality over quantity used to matter. Bring that back when it comes to audiences. I don’t think they have to change the thing.

I think them being more sensitive will just make the best comedians smarter writers. I’m happy they’re more sensitive. It brings out the best in me. I can’t be lazy with my pen. Best comedy advice, worst comedy advice.

Best. Derek Gaines told me to never play to the back of the room. A lot of comics try to make the other comics laugh focus on the crowd. Sam Jay told me, if my only source of income is stand up, I won’t let myself take the type of risks I would take if it wasn’t my livelihood. In the commercial, we see Shane Gillis in a dirty, graffiti filled freeway underpass. He’s sitting next to model and like there’s a guitar player and it’s all kind of cool.

Ton Allen is the senior vice president of Marketing for bud Light and says as a passionate college football fan himself, Shane Gillis was the perfect partner to connect to our college football audience with his distinct style of humor, and it doesn’t hurt that he loves a bud Light or two.

They were curious if that changes the level of difficulty, because people go in expecting an edge and you got to keep upping and upping it. Jessla next said, it’s certainly a challenge, but in every challenge there’s an opportunity. It’s where do they think I’m going? You’ve seen the special the bit about gallus.

Humor only works if you’ve seen Thoughts and Prayers and you think you know where I’m going with that. There are opportunities in this long career I’ve had, and all the negatives those are champagne problems. There’s a lot of comics who make it five years and never have to deal with this. I’m not going to complain, but it’s certainly in my mind when I’m writing new material, how do I still surprise them? The audience tells me what works and what doesn’t.

There are plenty of jokes where I’m like, this is obvious, and I asked a friend, is this obvious? And they’re like, no, only to you would this be obvious. So it’s really a conversation with the audience because something that’s obvious to me is not to them, and vice versa, where I think this joke is brilliant and they’re like, no, no, no, we saw that coming a mile away. To keep going darker and darker, that would be serving one segment of my fan base who was always going to complain of the first album was the best, was the most shocking. I’m not going to be a slave to my audience.

Ever. I will not do that. The only way to get through it instead of going darker is to become more clever and to become a little bit more flexible. Things that you think are going to go dark, they end up being silly, And I think that’s where my future lies, and the silliness and trying to come up with a longer format narrative in order to hide the punchlines just going dark. I’m too old for that crap I loved at the time, But people rank my specials much differently than I do.

A lot of the OG fans love the original. I love the more subtle I still got you there kind of thing. You’ll often hear me Soapbox about watching a particular comedian and being frustrated that I don’t believe any of the stories that said. I’m a free thinker and I can understand that Jesslinick is doing a character. Larry the Cable Guy is doing a character.

Jesslinick talks about the character and says, the character’s so fully formed, and you’re a good hands where if it’s a lie, it’s a lie throughout the hour. I’m not pulling the rug out for you, being like, you’re an idiot for believing that. I never want to be told what to do by anyone, even if it’s Chris Rock He’s like, yeah, I got a bit fore you. I’m like, get out of my face. I want to think of it myself.

That’s the fun part. Recently I admitted to you that I was wrong. I know we were all shocked. It was absolutely shocking that I was wrong about something because it almost never happens. I was wrong about how I got news for you being canceled after nine weeks if in case you missed it, Cee and it is bringing it back for season two.

Michael Ian Black shared on his substack that he doesn’t watch the show. Black said, for the record, I do not watch the program and probably never will. I tried once when it first came on, but I found I had to turn the channel within moments of seeing my own stupid, grinning mug. Many times I leave the taping thinking everybody else was great and I was fine. This has been a perennial issue.

I very much want to be a smart comic who’s this smart and funny things, and sometimes I am, but most of the time I just feel like a fraud. Sam Bee shared why she canceled kind of late on the Have I Got News for You Folks? This from Late Nighter. Sam told the story on her podcast, The Daily Beast Podcast. Sam said, I pulled myself out of it, which I do apologize to the whole team for leaving them in a bit of a spot.

I just didn’t feel like it was the right time for me to be on the show. Like for context, I really like the show. I think it’s actually really good. I like and admire everybody who’s on it, but my personal boundaries that I really can’t go on like a fun, loving comedy quiz show with someone who just stands so opposite to every value that I hold dear. The episode in question was the November sixteenth installment of the show.

The guest that she had a problem with was Tennessee Republican Congressman Tim Burchett. I’m personally not familiar with Tim, but Late Nighter says b sided issues with Burchett’s stances on mass deportation, guns, and opposition to transgender rights, as well as desire to dismantle the Department of Education into fun planned parenthood. Sam said, I just think these questions and these issues that we’re facing are literally existential, and I don’t have a good sense of humor about it. I just wasn’t willing to sit on a comedy show with a grim facial expression, thinking what am I gonna say? What am I gonna do?

What is this like? Why am I here? The next thing I’m going to be wrong about, and that’ll be twice in one year, which would be amazing, is that Jason Kelsey’s late night show on ESPN is going to be a disaster. Now it’s all only gonna run for five weeks, so they’ll guest him up into the super Bowl. But I don’t know about a one am at Jason kelse TV show.

I’m sure it’ll do great with viral clips, but is anyone gonna actually watch it? Who knows? I’m willing to be wrong here. Kelsey is working on it. He showed up at the UCB Theater in la and was on the ASCAT show Late Night.

Our tells as Kelsey took the stage beer in hand, and he was tasked with delivering a series of autobiography stories intended to inspire scenes from the improvisers on stage. They call it Late Night with Jason Kelsey five weeks starting Friday, January third, twenty twenty five. The show will be shot in front of a live audience in Philadelphia. Last week, Jason Kelsey told Jimmy Kimmel on the ABC owned show and said, I love late night shows. I’ve always loved them.

I remember it’s sleepovers watching Conan O’Brien with my friends. The show’s even gonna have a live house band, the Philadelphia based seven piece Brass Ensemble Snack Time. The show’s primary focus will be on sports personalities. Jason says, We’re gonna have a bunch of guys up there, legends of the game, friends that I played the game with, coaches and celebrities. They just announced that Arishafir Deal Andrew Schultz is taping his special for Netflix tonight and tomorrow at the Beacon Theater. Blond Medicine has a comny album out Tonight’s I already support your nomination for Best Comedy Album for the Grammy, because Best Comedy Album should go to albums, not Netflix specials.

This one from Aaron Judge and Jenny Chilakian. It’s called Romantic Comedy Live at the Ripped of bo Dice. Eron and Jenny have been hosting a monthly comedy showcase at a romance bookstore since twenty sixteen. For this stand up album, Eron and Jenny open up the show together and then each performed long sets of their own material. The result is a delightful and hilarious glimpse into what these two dynamic co hosts experience in their day to day lives as queer women in La And if you missed yesterday show, I was poking away at the Vulture Comedians you should and will know Emil will keem He had so much good material that I split it in half, so I did half of it yesterday.

I called my dad and started ranting about how Bernie should have been the nominee and something about Jeff Bezos or something. It’s so annoying you can’t use that as a reason, like in court for tax evasion. I feel like I should be like, yeah, but you’re on Eric Capitalism America, and then the jury would stand up and applaud me. But I do pay all my taxes on time.

Now, I think, what comedy opinion hill will you die on? I love this one, he goes. I mean, obviously CrowdWork should be wiped off the face of the planet, but I feel like it’s hack at this point to say that, almost as hack is asking somebody what they do for a living in all seriousness. Short form content is melting my brain, and I think it should be outlawed unless my clips start doing good, and then it’s awesome and it’s the future. I have to admit, though, that I’m bad at crowd work, which is probably part of the reason why I and so many comics crap on it, because it is a skill.

Caloroga Shark Media Mattery Thanksgiving. I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. If you’re up early. Jimmy Fallon and the Roots will be part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade if it’s their tenth time. Fantastic parade.

I used to go all the time as a kid, when my kids were smaller, I would go every now and then. You get a sixty degree day in November in New York City, and that is a great time to go today. Not so sure about that. Jimmy’s expected to play a few songs from his new album Holiday Seasoning, which features two tracks featuring The Roots. They are Hey Rudy and New Year’s Eve PoCA five four three two one.

For the first time since twenty ten, Fallon and the Roots will be on the Santa Lant Express, which is a train shaped float that’s been part of the Macy’s prate since nineteen eighty five. The last two years they were on the Winter Wonderland and Central Park Float. Fallon teamed up with the Jenny O Turkey brand to donate fifteen thousand turkeys to the Food Bank for New York City. That’s a good cause. I’ll roll with it.

Jeff Baker is the group vice president of Retail Marketing at Hormale Foods and said the Geneo Turkey brand team is thrilled to collaborate with NBC Universal as The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to ensure that meals get to those in need during the holiday season. I’ll still be watching the show and I’ve seen his moves, like I know what he’s gonna do, but it’s still and I’ll do some new stuff. I’m like, has this fool still killing it so hard? Seth Myers is petitioning Ben and Jerry’s to get his own flavor. Seth said it would be called a closer lick.

We’ve already mocked up what the container would look like. I’ve sent it to them. I’ve called their offices and left dozens of messages and all that happened was one of the interns called and said, we already have a flavor named after you. It’s called Vanilla Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice will stream on Max starting December sixth.

I already have it in my calendar. There’s so many movies I want to watch. I actually put them on the calendar so that I get around to them now. I don’t have anything tonight because I have to hang out with the family. But let me tell you what I write for thirteen days is Friday night, Movie Night, and on Saturday, I have Diehard two scheduled.

Sometimes I lib and wind up watching something else, but that’s what’s scheduled. Imil Joachim is one of Vulture’s comedians you should and will know. They asked him, He’ll tell us a story from childhood that might explain why you ended up being a comedian, he said. I went to an Irish Catholic middle school and then second grade. Our teacher, legit none the only one left in the school.

I think she was genuinely nine years old, decided we should do a reenactment of the Stations of the Cross at a class play for Easter, and I was randomly picked to play Jesus. It was an insane thing, like we did a kid’s version of the Passion of the Christ. It was their idea of a fun thing to invite parents to, like my parents took off work to watch their son get crucified by twelve white children. I also remember wanting to turn down the role because I found that there was a scene where I had to wash the apostles feet and I had OCD when I was a kid and was super germophobic. I told my parents I wanted to turn the roll down.

They were like, this is great honor, you can’t So I went through with it. I had robes and all that. We walked around the school outside. I watched twenty four feet and then was fake murdered an unpaid roll not even sag. Which comedian’s career would you like to follow?

He said, I feel like romy is the coolest career right now. Being able to work on a special in the show and then put it out and go back and work on the next thing without having to check in every day and post stuff all the time online. That seems dope. I think it’s cool that a lot of comics are moving to non La or New York City’s at a certain level like Chad Daniels, Kyle Kanae and Rory Scovel. Being able to tour whenever you want to, your own fans and have a house and own land that seems nuts.

I’d love to have a driveway or a garage one day, having a backyard and some string lights. I just need a small legal cult of maybe five hundred to one thousand people in every major city that’ll come see me while I’m in town. Worst show ever, he said, This wasn’t necessarily my worst show, but I did a show at a nudist colony in Indiana one time. It was a private community in the forest and you had to go through a gate to get in. It was a bunch of Southern Indiana nudists living in RVs around a campsite.

They drove little golf carts in the middle of the commune. It was like this gazebo where they had events and maybe Orgi’s or something. Was wild because it was Southern Indiana. The show ended up being fun. It was like thirty naked, forty to fifty year old just sitting around in mismatched chairs in this cabin I remember the first couple of minutes of my set, I was doing extremely mediocre, and I think it was because they thought I was making fun of the lifestyle, which I was.

But then I told him I’ll do a strip poker thing where every time a joke didn’t work, I’ll take off a piece of clothing.

Callaroga. Shark Media are Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. Good feisty one today, a lot of fighting I always like that, and a reminder I’ll have episodes all through the holiday weekend. I’m planning on recording them all right now. If my voice holds out, I’ve got one of those old fashioned colds that we used to get before COVID, remember those, I’ve got one.

But I’ve written all the weekend scripts. A lot to tell you about, including a lengthy Anthony Jeslnick article in Cracked that I’ve shared in the Facebook group Daily Comedy News Podcast group. Please feel encouraged to join us. Let’s start with Dave Chappelle, an article in the San Francisco Gate byline by Dan Gentille. I believe Dan has a little history with Dave, which he writes about in the piece.

Dan writes, so someone who has covered Chappelle extensively, to the point where the comic briefly made my stories a part of his act. Chappelle was at the Paramount Theater on Saturday night. He writes, A look like Dave was poised to go into grievance mode, leaning into his heel persona one fan behind me in line outside the venue remarked that he was hoping we’d hear the old Dave Chappelle, and at first it didn’t seem like it. Chappelle, who has banned cell phones. We’ve talked about that, apparently want a step further.

This time. You weren’t allowed to bring pens or notebooks. Wow. Dan writes, three different security guards disarmed him from his journalistic weaponry. The fact that I was on assignment didn’t dissuade them, no media at all.

They said, Dave, dude, this is not going to help you. This is not going to help you. Dave Chappelle, This is not going to help you. You do not want the media to turn on you, Dave Chappelle. I am warning you lovingly.

After briefly you’re visiting the Netflix controversy, Chappelle turned to politics, noting that the transgender community will be nostalgic for his jokes once Donald Trump actually begins taking action. But aside from a couple non sequitor slurs throughout the night and a callback involving the state of Gaza, Chappelle kept the promise he made it at the end of the closure that he was done making trans jokes. Interesting note here, Dan Wrights. Those who have seen Chapelle live had heard most of this material.

He shared a bit about San Francisco needing a batman with a punchline about teaching the homeless community the thriller dance. But unlike in the past we spoke about SF, this time it felt much more affectionate. Throughout the night, he peppered the set with compliments to the Bay Area, noting that after Chappelle’ show ANDed, he spent most of his time in San Francisco. Now, this next section has leaked out before. Despite the ban on pins, I mean, what are they gonna do?

I mean, you could smuggle some coal in your crotch and right on your arm. You’re not gonna be able to stop this. Dave Chappelle spoke about the twenty four presidential election, saying the whites are back. Chappelle reiterated his support for the Democratic ticket, saying he didn’t believe in celebrity endorsements, but that he voted for Kamala Harris. He also talked about how he knows Elon Musk and thought it was a stupid idea by Twitter, but boy was he wrong.

Dave joked about that they’re eating the cats and said he drove to a Haitian restaurant daily in support and he didn’t know what the meat was, but it sure did fall off the bone. That is a quality joke. Dan writs, I’m happy he gave critics breath. The sees me nothing to complain about. It was a pretty great show.

And then as I finish, I’m like, you know what, what if I do it again? Like, wouldn’t that be great? And this is my fifth one now. Yeah, so I’m like, if I could do a sixth, you know what would that look like? And that’s fascinating to me.

It seems neither comedian is a fan of what Joe Rogan is doing these days. Maren discusses whether or not he would play at the Mothership. People are like, would you ever do the Mothership? I wouldn’t even think about it. But I don’t have any reason to perform for those guys.

How much do I have to hate myself? But I imagine you have some crossover. Sure. I went toward the Mothership because I knew Curtis, the guy who was running the place at the time, from the store he went over there. Yeah, yeah, I was doing I was doing a couple of shows on a Sunday and I went over there for a tour.

Yeah, And I was like, this place is beautiful, it’s great, it’s set up as a great comedy club, but it’s too easy. Yeah, you know, it’s like you can’t fail there. I could. They just want to hear like the bad words. I’m sure they would be so happy to see you there that you would destroy.

Yeah. I can’t imagine Joe Rogan’s ever had a bad set. At that comedy club because they’re also they’re happy to be part of the thing. And an interesting take here from Anthony J. Justinic about playing arenas.

I don’t know why people go to arenas to see bands. It’s exactly a terrible way to see anything. I get why the comics want to do it. I don’t understand how. I don’t understand a Madison Square Garden has become this like this new club like I got to do I was lucky enough to do uh not Sydney Opera House, so we’ve not got to do that too.

But Carnegie Hall. Yeah, I was so happy. Yeah I did that. And I go and they’re like, the next time you come to the New York Comedy Festival, well have you do Madison Square Garden? Yeah?

And I was like, why do I give up about Madison Square? Like this is what this is the it for me. Carnegie is the coolest place I could be in and it was amazing. I loved it. That like, not from now on, I want to do just like nicer theaters.

Jessa Nixt said, even in my set now, if there’s one joke that’s way too hardcore, and that’s okay. I just don’t want to do a set full of that. But it’s nice to know the audience thinks that could happen at any time. I feel great. It’s a weird place to be in because I did this tour for two years or recorded in April.

I’m one of those guys you could either watch a special a million times and edit and perfect it. We can watch it twice and say get out of here. I can’t look at it again, and I’m the latter. Johnny Mac is the same way. What’s the line perfect is the enemy of good?

I just had a great run in Europe though, so much fun. I’m excited for the special to get out there and see what the public thanks doing the show for two years. It’s people buying a ticket and coming to see it. But when you’re just checking on Netflix and you don’t give a hoot, that’s when you really find out how good it is. And I’m excited for that.

There seems to be some sort of beef happening. I’ll source Vulture here, and I have to make sure I understand it. Kendrick Lamar dropped an album and apparently took a shot at comedians. I believe mister Lamar has a line about making Cat Williams proud. Kendrick then raps, don’t let no white comedian talk about no black woman.

That’s law. He does not specify which white comedian he’s referring to. Vulture speculates it could be Gary Owen, possibly Matt Rife, but people seem to believe it’s Andrew Schultz. On the July seventeenth episode of Andrew’s podcast, he made a few jokes about his guest description of a black girlfriend effect, in which a non black man, quoting Vulture here, dates a black woman and adopts a new style fade haircutting beard. Schultz at that time said they grow the beard because they need a cushion when they get slapped clip.

When viral online the guests apologize, Schultz refused to apologize. Live streamer Academics said he was speaking to Schultz. Apparently, Schultz may have said, is this guy too woke to un stand a joke? We’ll keep an eye on that one, hey, Just for laughs, announce their dates for July. We get to go back to Montreal July sixteenth to the twenty seventh.

Super awesome to see that one coming back. And they’re bringing back the annual Comedy pro Conference, and I’m looking forward to see who they announce. Let’s stop off on gossip Corner from the Modesto Bee. Bill Burr was in town, The Modesto Bee says in one post, Bill Burr records himself in front of our iconic arch as he declares that all towns should have something like it. Burr reads the motto water wealth, contentment Health, Burr says, not saying it’s true, not saying I felt that one is up here.

It’s funny to say water health, contentment, health. And I have an f in McDonald’s right next to it. Actor Jeremy Renner commented, my hometown. Another post chronicled Bill Burr’s day out in Modesto. Apparently he stopped for breakfast at Good Day Lucille and he had a south By Southwest biscuit sandwich.

He then checked out the Modesto Children’s Museum. He took a photo with the sign for Johanna’s Bail Bonds. People on the Modesto Reddit page said of the show, he killed it. He knew it was a smaller venue, so we barely stuck to a set list and ad libbed the whole time. But in the best way possible.

Boy, how exciting He took a few moments to post with the very busy Hackensack Police. They posted Hackensack pde had an amazing time providing security for Adam Sandler while he filmed this new movie Happy Gilmour too. Our officers are huge fans and we’re thrilled to see the magic of Hollywood and action. Thank you Adam for bringing your talent and humor to Hackensack. Before I get letters, half my family’s cops.

So I don’t want to think I’m anti police, but I also live in the suburbs, and I see what happens with overtime. Providing security for Adam Sandler is a cushy gig. Sorry, angin about half my Family’s Cops. Friend of the Pod Jason Sinnaman wrote in The New York Times about hilarious He was on a zoom call with Craig Erwitch, the president of the Disney Television Group, who said, we’re not trying to do you know, one hundred things. We’re trying to do a few carefully selected things that we really believe in that I think, quite frankly helps quality control.

Craig says he’s open to sharing viewership data with comedians, something that Netflix has hesitated to do. Jason writes frustrated some comics who are hoping to understand their audiences for purposes of where to tour, how to negotiate their next deal. That is a major reason a lot of comedians love podcasting, by the way, so Gora has talked about that at length. Craig also promises to use old fashioned marketing muscle. We don’t believe that it’s just up to you, you know, the algorithm to kind of get you to the right time, in the right place.

They sure push the heck out of gaff Again. I’m not sure there’s any post launch buzz on the Gaff Again special, but there sure was in advance. Gaff Again on the Zoom said from a promotional standpoint, there’s no comparison. I was grateful for the opportunity, but it felt more like an experiment, whereas Hulu has a twelve month to two year plan. Yeah, because they also own ABC.

They also own ESPN and the Disney products, so you could very easily get Jim gaffikin on Monday Night football. I can absolutely see from an artist standpoint where that is very appealing. Burwitch was asked if you would ever program something like Dave Chappelle’s The Closer, and he said, it’s probably not what we would want to do. What we would consider is does it feel gratuitous and purposely hate fuller provocative or purposely controversial. Now, it would probably stay away from that.

This is not to do with Disney. We want these comedies to be enjoyed by as many people as possible, and we don’t feel the needs of purposely court controversy to get attention. So let’s look at the list again. Zorn A garg Andrew Santino, A tail Lane, Sebastians. On that list, you’re like, okay, I see what they’re doing.
