Caloroga Shark Media. Hello, I’m Jenni Mack with your Daily Comedy News. Bert Kreischer’s specialist on Netflix Today. It is called Lucky, and Bert says, I’m a glass half full m er. I feel very lucky to be alive and working at this point, he told Variety when asked about the state of the industry.

TV and movies are about to explode in Hollywood in a really fun and crazy way. He believes comedians are entering an era of financial independence and creative freedom. Dudes, they’re already there. Except those Netflix paychecks are pretty nice. Let’s be honest, Bert, I’m sure you could put something up on YouTube, but let’s not act like we don’t like the Netflix paychecks.

Bert says, it’s like the gold rush right now. Look at Hollywood, and I see massive opportunities coming around the corner for all of us. Be careful. Ask the TV series producers what happens when you tear down the establishment. I would kiss Netflix as a ring.

Bert, be careful. Variety said that they noticed watching Bert’s special there were shirtless men in the audience. Bert said it started happening was doing clubs. Dudes ripped the shirts off and watch the whole show shirtless. When I did Red Rocks for the third time, we had a top off camera that was shooting the way they would women ripping their shirts off for a kiss cam.

We did that for the whole arena tour. We just go to big dudes who ripped the shirts off. Not one camera ever hit a woman. Bert says, I idolized Jimmy Buffett. We’d go to his shows, and there’s something really cool about getting lost in a group of fans seeing them dress up like crazy.

Yes, Buffett shows were fun. I never thought the thing on have was going to be that big, obviously, but it’s kind of cool that I get a bunch of overweight dudes with body positivity ripping their shirts off. These are guys that wear a shirt to go swimming, you know. Bert said, I wish I knew my brand better. It’s hard to see from the inside of the forest.

I think I give them permission to party. That’s a good name for tour. Permission to party. That’s a really good name for tour. I think I just named my next tour.

I’ve always been the guy who like at the kid’s birthday party, the dads will come to me and be like, if you open a beer, we can all have a beer. I’m also unapologetically in love with my wife. Not cheating on your wife is cool. My fans are guys who feel lucky to have the chick there with, lucky to have the life they have, lucky to have the kids they have, and that one night is the night to cut loose love this interview, we’ll pick at this at the next few days. The Hollow Reporter caught up with Andrew Schltz.

So they were talking about audiences and you know, where do you steer your comedy and they pointed out in Aperghetzi, who subscribes to the steer clear of anything that offends philosophy. Andrew said, exactly, But I don’t know. Trump is a specific thing. There are a lot of people who could be critical of platforming somebody like Trump and they say they’d never do it. But you also didn’t have the opportunity to So you really don’t know what you do until you’re given that opportunity.

And yeah, I don’t know. I had three things that I wanted to tell the person that might be the leader of the free world. They were three things that are important to me. One was I wanted him to say on camera that he would protect IVF and he did. Another was stopping not all the foreign wars, but if there’s ones that are senseless that are just to line the pockets of the military industrial complex, that maybe we could curb that.

And then the last one was some empathy for illegal immigrants that aren’t breaking the law, like maybe a pathway to citizenship. Doesn’t look like you listen to me much on that one. I’m not saying I have any impact on him. But if you have the opportunity to be impactful and you choose not to do it for whatever reason because you’re concerned about I don’t know what your friends or your supporters might think, you’re allowed to do that. But for me, I just thought it was something and I could sleep at night doing and I’m proud of myself for doing it.

I agree with everything he said there. Kelsey Cook spoke to Vony Land about the difference between opening for Jim Norton at the Wilbur and headlining the Wilbur. She explained there’s a level of pressure with either situation when opening for someone is where you want to make sure you’re doing your job and setting them up for as much success as possible. But there’s something extra special about headlining because it’s your crowd, so there’s a little bit more built in confidence in a sense that people came to see me, to have the chance to be at the Wilber and have it be my crowd, it’s just really cool. She talked about her current material and said, I’ve had some things happen last year that I’ve become part of the material in a more natural way.

I stopped drinking last year, so I talk about being sober, being diagnosed with depression, and I go a little bit into my mom’s dementia. I don’t go into it as much as I did in market territory, but those themes are sort of connected here, and I’m just trying to find the silver linings and all of it and bring humor to it. I feel really fortunate because the Hustler was received so well and that helped my ticket sales boom, and I was touring so much and got right to work on the next thing and was able to turn around a lot of the new material and get it to a good place. Was also exciting to have this new added fan base for me to work the Mark your Territory material out too. That hour gave me more confidence and permission to just be myself and talk about the things I really wanted to talk about, opening up and talking about depression.

Especially. It’s been cool enough people come up to me after shows and thanking me for talking about my struggles with it and antidepressants, intrusive thoughts and all that. It’s definitely not a taboo as a topic as it used to be. But I do you hope for anyone dealing with any of those issues they can walk away feeling seen. Matt Friend tells the Chicago some times, if you go see him, it’s something for everybody.

Old references, newer references, everything from Milton Burrel to Timothy Shallamy. Friend got famous walking around New York City. He’d encounter celebrities, people like John Oliver as a bashi in Madscalco and talk show host Andy Cohen. He would take videos of himself impersonating them. He’d upload them to TikTok.

No celebrities he said ever told them to get lost. Matt explains, I’m not ambushing people, it’s out of respect and admiration.

And then it kind of organically happens.

He can’t I quite explain how he does what he does. He says, I’ll walk down the street and King Charles comes out. I don’t really think about it. It’s just sort of part of my life. He told a story about meeting a representative from the Obama team when a friend was in d C for the Correspondence dinner.

A few months later, Obama’s team reached out to meet in Chicago before the DNC. Matt says, I’m like freaking out. Suddenly I find myself in a room with Obama and I’m doing all the greatest hits. It was an insane, insane moment. He’s not worried about cancel culture.

I don’t fear that. I just do what I always think is right. If you’re living a life like that, fearful of one side or the other, you’re not going to go for Michael ian Black sometimes gets called a progressive and says, I don’t really think of myself in those terms. They feel sort of self limiting. But anybody who follows me or knows anything about me would call me a liberal progressive.

Some have called me a communist, a term I would not apply to myself. He does add that we’re living in a fascist healscape. We’re in a very catastrophic way re examining everything about the nation. There’s a way to do that. I do think we’re long overdue for a constitutional convention.

I think it would be an excellent, excellent exercise for the nation to participate in. I think it could have potentially very beneficial outcomes if people take it seriously. If you go see him these days, he’s not going to make fun of Trump. He says, give me an Obama, give me a Jimmy Carter, give me a Richard Nixon. Richard Nixon was funny.

Trump not so much. Felipe, as Barza said, George Lopez and Paul Ardriguez have always been the coolest people to be. They’re the kind of people who always up my back even though they don’t get along. But who cares now because I’m friendly with both of them. George Lopez took me to World Series Game five against the Astros, and we were right behind the Dodger dugout.

I was high five in Kershoff from my seat. Bro Paul Rodriguez gave me good advice twice. He was the first comic to give me a lot of money and take me on the road. He even bought me a suit. Paul Rodriguez taught me this be nice to everybody, because you’re gonna meet the same people on the way up in your career as you will on the way down.

That was the first thing. When I started. There were a lot of Latino comedians who would never play Latin rooms. They’d never walk in a room with their whole audience was a Mexican American in LA because they wanted to cross over to a wider audience. They wanted to perform the improv the comedy store of the ice house, so they never wanted to go to the East Side to perform.

They’d go, Now, bro, I don’t do those beaner rooms. So they lost out on a lot of fans by not going to those rooms. Paul Ardriguez. But you know what, man, don’t worry about crossing over in a mainstream audience or white people. If you’re funny, like really funny, they’ll cross over to you.

That was the second thing, and that’s been the model for my career. Moa mayor was recognized by the Arab American National Museum. The Mayor of Dearborn honored Mo with a framed attribute for his contributions to storytelling and representation. The mayor said, the way you’ve shattered stereotypes has opened up doors for us as public servants, as people who want to give back to the community. Oftentimes it does take the comedian, It does take the notable actor.

It does take the individual who’s speaking to our narrative, who understands our narrative because they grew up in it, student it and understood better than anyone. So on behalf of the entire city of Dearborn. I want to say thank you and welcome home. If you watch Mo on Netflix, good series, you should watch it. Moe is often seen carrying a small bottle of his mother’s homemade olive oil.

Mo explains, some people carry hot sauce, I carry olive oil. But beyond that joke, the bottle is a symbol of his Palestinian heritage and the traditions that anchor him. But toul Azin is a Palistine Nian American who grew up in ann Arbor and is a fan of Mo, and explains, so often we’re depicted so negatively in Western media, either our stories about war or worthy enemy. But I think this show depicted what it’s like to grow up with the trauma of understanding the family history of occupation in war, but also trying to find happiness. You don’t see a lot of Arabs and popular media being happier laughing, but the show did that really well, letting you laugh but also reminding you of the struggle, what it means to be Palestinian, but also the beauty.

Questions Answered in This Episode

How many views did John Mulaney’s ‘Everybody’s in LA’ get on Netflix?

According to Vulture, the show averaged 1.1 million views per episode, which Robbie Bram indicated was lower than expected but didn’t deter Netflix from greenlighting the follow-up ‘Everybody’s Live.’

Is Netflix planning to make more talk shows after John Mulaney’s success?

Robbie Bram said it’s not a concentrated focus for Netflix. The Mulaney show exists because of the unique opportunity to work with him specifically, not as a blueprint for more weekly talk shows.

Will Netflix make a live sketch show to compete with SNL?

Robbie Bram said they’d be open to it down the line but have no current plans. Bill Simmons theorized Netflix might wait for Lorne Michaels to step down or capitalize on gaps in SNL’s calendar during election cycles and summer months.

Does Netflix’s large stand-up special library affect their greenlighting strategy?

According to Robbie Bram, the library hasn’t reduced the volume of new stand-up they greenlight. Instead, it helps drive viewers to discover new favorite comedians and view related content, as seen with Nate Bargatze and Moisés Mayer.

How does Netflix use multiple platforms to attract comedy talent?

Robbie compared it to the Sirius XM model, where comedians can appear across Netflix’s film, series, sketch, and sports content in one media push—similar to how talent like Bert Kreischer appear across NFL broadcasts, specials, and sketch shows.

Is Netflix concerned about competition from Amazon, HBO, and Hulu for comedy content?

Robbie Bram said competition is actually good for the stand-up business overall and shows how big the industry has become. He pointed out that some comedians like Nate Bargatze move between platforms.

Caloroga Shark Media. Hi there, Johnny Mac with your Daly comedy news. Vulture had a big piece about the state of Netflix comedy in twenty twenty five. They interviewed Robbie Bram, who oversees Netflix comedy. I worked with Robbie and everything back at Serious Now is fifteen plus years ago, back when we used to do stuff with just for laughs.

Got to know Robbie a little bit. They opened up with Mullany and this article came out before Mullenie’s show debuted last week, so they were talking about everybody’s in LA from last year. It turned out the audience for LA wasn’t huge rights Vulture and average of one point one million views an episode. What made you do the show anyway? Robbie said, well, there’s only one John Mlaney.

He’s such a singular artist that when presented with the opportunity to do this with him, like you said, it was a no brainer. That number seems low, and maybe that explains why when I was watching it live Onnesday night, there wasn’t really all that much buzz on social media about it. Interesting, good follow up, Is it really more about gut and taking a chance on talent, and I’m a big believer in taking a chance on talent. Absolutely, Robbie said, if you look, John mullanie is not only one of the most viewed stand ups on Netflix, he’s one of the top tickets selling stand ups in the world. So we had a lot of confidence of the new show we’re doing, Everybody’s Live is going to break through.

These types of shows have always grown over time. And look, there’s nobody like John out there. If you watched SNL fifty with fifty years of some of the biggest stars in comedy, John Mulaney stood out in that room and on that show. So we have a lot of confidence him and in this new show that’s not crazy. How soon after LA did you start talking to Mallani about doing more, Robbie, I don’t want to use his words, since I don’t remember what the word exactly, But John had a lot of fun with the fact that there were no stakes and everybody’s in LA because he couldn’t be renewed.

But he came to this. Honestly, what we did last May wasn’t a pilot. It was truly being done as a six day show.

And then he was so great and so natural in the seat.

I think we started the conversations pretty much immediately to see if he’d be interested. Then they got into how Malanie is a collaborator on the show. Again, this is Unvulture. You should read it new topic Vulture. Netflix has done weekly talk shows and Talk to Jason shows with everybody from Chelsea Handler, Joe McHale, Norm Michelle Wolfe other than the Letterman’s Project.

They didn’t really stick. If this one works, we make a lot more talk shows. Again, Robbie said, it’s not something we’re focused on. I mean this show. We weren’t looking for a show like this.

The show exists because we had an opportunity to work with John Mulaney, and we think there are things you could do live that are just really, really exciting for the viewer. We’re definitely gonna be looking at doing some things live when it makes sense, but it’s not necessarily a concentration Vulture. What about a live sketch show now? Bill Simmons talked about this. Bill flowted the theory that Netflix is waiting for Lourene Michaels to step down, at which point SNL would be theoretically vulnerable.

Simmons also suggested that the SNL calendar leaves a lot on the table, specifically in the election cycle, when the big conventions are happening and all the fun stuff is happening, SNL is dark. Maybe Netflix does something in the summer, which I think would make a lot of sense strategically. I don’t have any insight into Netflix view patterns in which months are more or less popular. I do notice they tend to drop a lot of big, shiny things around holiday weekends. Robbie said, I think down the line would be open to it.

Down the line, Simmons, maybe right there, you’re bringing up SNL in fifty years as some of the best TV of all time. I’m sure we’d love to one day be in that business, but no plans for it at this point. That’s a pretty clear answer. Great question by Vulture. Does having that big library of stand up specials have an impact on how much you green light?

Now you don’t need as much as you did early on when you’re starting from zero. Great question. Robbie said, it hasn’t affected our volume at all. What it has done, it’s given more of a journey to when people discover the new favorite comedian on Netflix to be able to see more from that comedian or similar comedians. A recent example of that is Nate Brighetzi or Moa.

Mayer just released his comedy series last month, and you’re seeing more viewing on his old specials. Another great question by Vulture. Nice job, Vulture. You used to make headlines for paying crazy sums of money to comics for their future specials. I’m sure you’re still writing Big Chicks, but you’re trying to spend less on stand up.

Robbie said, I think it’s that different. We’ve always bought shows that have been produced and put on Netflix. I mean, for example, Chappelle’s for specials, well us, we’re produced before we purchase them. We’re just looking for the best specials out there for our members, and people have such different tastes that sometimes quite frankly, it’s really great opportunity where you see something that’s pre produced because you gets sense of exactly what the creative lens is. But I don’t think the strategy has changed.

It’s still about trying to find the best things out there, whether we do a deal in advance or whether it’s licensed. Fultcher brought up Bert Kraser, saying he seems to be everywhere on Netflix. Does having talent all over the service help them attract talent? Great question? Or Robbie said, it’s probably the thing I’m the most excited about.

I mean, Netflix is obviously a really big company, and you know all the buyers across film and nonfiction and series. We talk a lot about this with talent. You mentioned Bert Krascher. Bert was just all over the NFL Christmas Game. We talked about Mulaney.

We have a sketch show coming out with Tom Segura and season two of Michelle Butteu’s Survival of the Thickest. And this is the way we’ve thought about things since we start in the space with people like a Zi’s and Ali Wong. I know that was the serious model. It was a great way to attract talent because you could come up and say to anyone from Bruce Springsteen or a NASCAR driver or I don’t know, a comedian, Hey, come on up, and you can go on the country station, the rock station, the comedy station, the sports station and hit all these different audiences and they could do like a big media tour just walking down one hallway at series make you know, come up for three hours and you could hit eight different audiences. It’s one of the reasons we were able to get so many people.

Vulture asked about the competitors, Amazon, HBO, Hularius, Hi Publicist, how you guys doing. Hulu even did a deal with Bill Burr, who’s been a regular on Netflix. How much of a threat to your dominance are these other players? Vulture, You crushed this interview. Robbie said, I think the eyeballs to come to Netflix to watch stand up and the deep bench of library titles that we have in our festivals and radio stations and all that make it pretty clear we’re invested in the space and are very proud of had this leading role in the comedy business.

But the truth is it’s very good for the stand up business that there are other buyers in the space. I mean, first and foremost, we’re huge stand up fans. Boy, this is a nice polished answer, Robbie, good job. So all these great comedians having homes is great. Oftentimes different comedians go to different places, like Nate Pergetzi, he went to Amazon and came back to Netflix.

We think the fact that competition is out there is a great thing and just shows how big a business. Stand up has become Vulture again. Good question. Was there a bidding war for Burr’s special and was Netflix interested? And is it something Netflix was interested and went after?

Robbie said, I mean, Bill’s one of the best stand up comedians of all time. We’ve had a lot of business with him, so yeah, there was definitely interested in that, and we look forward to working with him again down the line. Vulture, one person you said you have no plans to work with again is Louis C.K. But last fall you bought a special he directed from Adrian Appolucci. I know that’s not the same as doing deal directly with him, but something changed.

Sounds like Robbie was ready for this one. Adrian is such a hilarious comic that our team’s been tracking for a really long time. Who were thrilled to put out that special, But there are no plans to work with Louis at this point. Yeah. Is there going to be a Netflix comedy festival at twenty six?

Robbie said, I have nothing to talk about right now, but we love a big comedy festival at Netflix. More news to come. Vulture. Uh poked him in the ribs and said, uh, so you just confirmed it, and Robbie said, I understood the nature of your backdoor question and I appreciate it. Nice job.

Vulture people. Deadline spoke to Amy Gravitz, who is HBO’s head of Comedy. She says, I have full support inside the comedy to continue to keep the HBO comedy brand thriving. This is a broader interview, not just stand up. She spoke a little bit about untitled Steve Carell comedy that’s about to start production.

It centers on Steve Carell’s character, who’s an author. That character’s complicated relationship with his daughter, which told the character gives some crazy, stupid love vibes, which is a twenty eleven movie Steve Currell started. Amy said, I’ve always wanted to do a show set in a college environment, and adding Steve at the center of it is a way into that world as a character who’s exploring college experience for the first time later in life really felt like the way for us to do it. And of course working with Bill Lawrence has been a really fantastic partnership. A lot of pedigree there and could curb your enthusiasm come back, She says.

Larry David has not spoken in HBO about doing another season, but she’d love it. We’ve been chatting. It seems like he’s got some good ideas for me. Hmm. Outdoors Comedy Festival announced that Jim Gaffigan not coming.

He’s quotes unavailable to perform at the three day event July eighteenth through the twentieth. I wonder what has changed on Jim’s schedule. They sub somebody in for Jim gaff again, now performing Martin Short, who will co headline alongside John Mulaney on Sunday, July twentieth. They also announced Short will replace Jim Gaffigan at the Winnipeg Festival on July eighteenth. Verydas told Yahoo Canada, you know, comedy is always sort of counter cultural.

Trump brought a different kind of comedy into the mainstream, and I think that will make more nuanced voices counterculture. And I think that will make more thoughtful voices counterculture. So I actually think what’s happening with that will be very good for comedians. What I do know is your content can become controversial, but controversy should never become your content. Smart, he says, you can’t predict what will go viral, and if you try to second guess that as an artist, you drive yourself insane.

Your best bet is just to have it and go at it and then deal with it when they’re upset. I don’t think there’s any predicting what makes people upset. Russell Martin is starting a US tour today at the House of Blues in Dallas. He told the Dallas Observer. The thing about gigging internationally is it gives you more strings to your bow because you’ve got street level knowledge of what it feels like in Holland, Denmark, Auckland, Wellington, whatever it might be.

You’re not getting material from the interne out of your country. Traveling as a comedian gives you more spices to add to your comedy cast role. He declared himself the king of adapting to different crowds and comedy styles, conceding that American humor can be a difficult bridge to cross for some British acts. He explains American audiences of such a reputation as being big fat laughers. The big difference between US and British comedy is it maybe we’re a bit less high status can take the seriousness.

It’s a word this little vulgar in the States and not so vulgar in Britain. One of those words starts with the pee, rhymes with hiss out of ourselves in a way that doesn’t happen broadly speaking as much as in the US. That’s self deprecating. Humor is a big part of being British. He believes the only way to test new materials to show up unannounced at smaller venues.

If people already fans, they have a vested interest. There’s no point in getting rid of that and being statistic and going out of your way to perform people and make it hard for yourself. There’s a useful amount of dress when you’re creating new stuff. If you just do it in front of your fans, it makes you a wee bit narrow. He’s taking an advantage of the US comedy club scene.

I figure out what works and what doesn’t, what needs changing. Otherwise you’re leave me it to chance. It’s a real kick in the ego. Teach sometimes to rock up a comedy club in New York. We’ve just done ten nights at the Royal Albert Hall and broken the record, and then we were in a comedy club in New York and there’s sixty people there and you’re dying thinking, oh, Ef, this worked a week ago.

But that’s the process, man, You just got to do it in order to make the shows great. I would rather go to a comedy club and try out new jokes than go to a red carpet event, unless it was a film I wanted to watch. If you’re just gonna be photographed to be in the Daily Mail, I couldn’t think of anything worse and happy Saint Patrick’s day. Let’s catch up with Enia Martin the Irish Times did. She explains she was named after the singer Y but I honestly never heard her played once in the house ever, so I don’t know if that was a spur of the moment thing.

But thank god my parents didn’t like meat loaf, because I would have been a target for bullying at school. She says, I love the Irish sense of humor. You could say something so offensive to someone Irish and they’ll just laugh it off. They’ll know you’re not serious. I think I got my mad is from my mother.

She’s not shy at all. I would say if she were born in this generation and she had the freedom I did. I definitely think she’d be in this industry and she’d be graded as well. I would say the highlight of my previous year was being able to buy my own car. It was my third car, but being able to buy my dream car was a symbol of how far I’ve come and how hard I’ve worked.

When I was coming home from the US recently, I asked at the desk how much was to upgrade Supremium Economy. She told me, and I was like, yeah, I’ll upgrade two do things like that. When I grew up in a working class area, I thought, there’s not much I’m gonna a mount to. I’m probably just gonna have a great job like everyone else. It’s something I thought i’d never be able to do.

But now that I’ve broken in the UK, I try not to play the comparison game. Don’t compare your chapter one of someone else’s chapter ten. Good advice. She want to go see her. She’s at TF Royal Castle Bar on the twenty first, Happy Saint Patrick’s Day.

And that’s your comedy news for today. See tomorrow

He said he should have stayed at SNL one more year instead of leaving when burnt out, as burnout is not the right time to make major career decisions.

What did Bill Burr say about his public persona?

Burr discussed how people perceive him as purely an angry comedian based on his act, when in reality that’s only a sliver of who he is, and his wife and others have pointed out this public perception doesn’t match his full personality.

What worst advice did Mulaney receive from a Hollywood power player?

An unnamed Hollywood executive told Mulaney he must own all his IP and be both rich and famous, insisting that people who are just rich or just famous are miserable—advice Mulaney found absurd and contradictory.

Caloroga Shark Media find they own Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. The media has changed so much. John Mulaney, as part of his press tour, I mentioned, you know, he did CBS this morning, and I’m like, that just seems weird to me. But we live so long that it also seems weird to me that John Mulaney did Rolling Stone, like in nineteen eighty five. Ooh, John Mulaney’s on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Let me see what he’s up to. Ooh, a Van Hagar article I’ll read that. Can’t believe David ly Roth quit the band shocking Anyway, mullany talk to Rolling Stone. They tell us it’s the Last Word column where pop culture icons reflect on their work, success and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. Okay, John said, please feel free to include literally anything we discussed, because it’ll be far more interesting than anything about my career.

They asked John what are the important rules that he lives by. His answer, never planned more than three months in the future. Live by, not work by dony crackers or anything like that. In bed, even if you keep the plate run under your chin, they’ll on up at your feet and an easy one. But nobody knows nothing.

No one’s an expert. We have a complete inability to ever discuss scenarios that actually will happen, and we’re off on the wrong thread. He told an example one of my first agents we had to call in two thousand and five with ABC. They were hearing pitches from comedians that were twenty three years old, and I asked him what kind of shows do they want? And he paused and said, oh, they want hits.

That really stuck with me, like, oh right, they just want whatever would work, and they want the thing that no one else would do that it seems like it won’t work, but that works. I used to laugh. When I was younger, people would be like’s your girlfriend pretty? I’d be like, what kind of question is that? No?

All I can get is trolls. I’m lucky I even have this one. Me’laney said. The horse being a loose in a hospital joke was about Trump, but it’s more about a joke about how we’re not good at predicting anything. Seven minutes before nine to eleven, we’re all looking for Chondra Levy.

We’re just not really on it. We’ve never been on it. I guess they were these psychics back in the day that would make their New Year’s predictions some of them won’t contrue, but that’s probably not true either. Best advice John Mulaney ever received, my dad told me, if you’re on the phone with someone in a business conversation you don’t like what they’re saying or how they’re counting, just say nothing. Silence makes people crazy.

They’ll pause waiting for you to talk. You won’t. Then they’ll continue to talk and they’ll go are you still there? And you go, uh huh, and then they’ll start talking again. He goes, they’ll probably walk back everything they said, or meet you with the terms you wanted, or they might even go above what you wanted because they’re so uncomfortable.

John admits to trying that in his career and it working. Worst advice John Mullenie ever get. I won’t name them, but in twenty fifteen, an extremely powerful person in Hollywood was telling me that I always have to own all my IP which is not possible. The guy’s looking at me and he goes, I know people were famous, not rich, and they’re miserable. And I know people were rich and not famous and I John Mulaney say, and they’re happy, and he goes, no, they’re miserable.

And he looks at me and goes, you need both. You need to be rich and famous. It was like a parody of meeting this person. I was like, is this a cut scene from The Devil’s Advocate? Good question here from Rolling Stone?

What advice would you give to two thousand and eight John Mulaney, who’s auditioning for SNL and working on his first special, The advice as soon as you’re ready to leave SNL, stay one more year. I wish I had. I didn’t realize that when you feel burnt out, that’s not the moment to make a decision like that. In terms of other stuff. There are a lot of twists in terms of my life after that, but I don’t know if the advice would have stuck.

Funny answer here, what do you wish somebody would have told you about being a celebrity growing up? Mulaney said. I would have said to my child’s self, it’s exactly like you picture it. And I would have said to my twenty year old self, it’s exactly like you picture it. Best and worst parts of success.

Melleney said, The best part’s easy, it’s what you think. The worst part is your instincts were rewarded, but your instincts aren’t always right, John, do you get imposter syndrome? No, listen. One of my problems is not that I don’t feel really at home doing entertainment. I have other problems.

Then they talked about the infamous rehab skipping ahead and have you heard of Chekhov’s Gun? This is Chehov’s podcast. Mulaney said, I like David Lee Roth’s bluegrass albums of covers, which is called Strman with the Devil from two thousand and six. I’m embarrassed to say it’s kind of in my shuffle. Terry Gros said Bill Burr on her NPR podcast, Good question build us.

This special market change in your public or private self the topic, and I’ve been talking about this all week, kind of the new Bill Berber said, it’s something I’ve kind of been going towards. But like most people that get on stage, they sort of watch what you do and then think this little sliver of you is what you are or whatever, like the Rolling Stone thing saying that I was the King of Rage comedy, you know, and it’s in rolling Stones, so everybody listens to it. So then I think I’m just walking around just fearus all the time. It’s two dimensional. I’ll jump in there.

I’ve been in the podcasting industry getting a fair amount of attention in the first quarter because I have the sub stack and it’s free and link in the show notes, and I’ve been, as I call it, throwing fastballs on the substack. I’m commenting on the podcasting industry and I’m just throwing heat, nothing but heat, and people are paying attention.

And then, as I wrote in the substack, when you go, hey, look at me, you can’t…

However, then I get invited on podcasts about podcasting, and the first thing I say is I’m glad we’re here to have a new onance conversation, so you can hear the tone of voice. And don’t think I’m walking around kicking garbage cans all day going. I can’t believe everybody’s making video podcast girl, I’m not like that at all. So I totally hear what Burr is saying about your public persona, including Johnny Mac, who is ninety nine percent John McDermott, I’ll explain. Johnny Mac clearly doesn’t like Adam Sandler movies, right, John McDermott also doesn’t like Adam Sandler movies.

But I don’t walk around going all day. I can’t leave Netflix, cave Adam Sandler another deal, Like, I just don’t care and I move on with my life. But you know, it’s a podcast. I’m trying to be entertaining, so maybe I ramp it up a little bit. Back to Burr, there’s also part of me that really hates the fact that I’ve been so angry and had a temper and stuff.

It was never something I wanted to be and something I grew up with, and you know, you think to yourself, I’m not doing that. I’m not gonna be this person because they’re making me feel bad as a kid, and then you grow up and you end up. It’s a weird thing. Gross asked, who’s the person who told you was your wife a therapist? Burr said, everybody in my life, everybody people reviewing my act, my wife.

You know, like, you can only argue point for so long when one hundred people in the row are going like, nah, you’re pretty angry. Good Stuff. I haven’t been able to live to that one yet, but it’s definitely in my cue. Good show in Los Angeles tonight is a benefit concert called Let’s Get Laid, Get It Elaid, Yes Well, combined stand up comedy and live music. It’s at the United Theater Weird Now, Margaret Show, Bob the Drag Queen Al Jardine.

As I’ve joked before, I assume it’s the Beach Boys, Al Jardine and not some comedian off my radar. Alex Edelman, Chris Fleming, Eric Idol, Maria Bamford, Mark Prosch, and Neil Hamburger will make appearances. Other guests include Paul Schaeffer, Peter Asher, Puddles, Pity Party, Reggie Watts, Rufus Wainwright, and Tim Heidecker. That is a great, great lineup a night of music and comedy for La wildfire relief. Proceeds will benefit firefighters who battled the various fighters as well as those who’ve been displaced.

The Houston Press caught up with Tom Papa and asked Tom about growing up in New Jersey. And this is such a stereotypical New Jersey question that I love that the Houston people asked it, Tom Papa. Being from New Jersey, how much was Bruce Springsteen’s chef in your face? Tom Papa said, didn’t feel shoved, does so much as it was a presence like everything else. You had the skyline of New York in the distance, the Jersey Shore waiting down south, and Springsteen was the soundtrack everywhere he went.

When I was in high school, he was hitting the peak of his fame, so it was kind of cool. Yeah, pop is my age, so yeah, born in the USA. Big. Then Springsteen had the Lost Years that the big reunion in two thousand. I know, I personally won tour, saw twelve shows.

You drive up and down the Garden State Parkway in the summer listening to Bruce, it just sounds right, Absolutely, Papa says, New Jersey’s always been a punchline. I always said the reason I was a comedian is you had a good sense of humor about yourself being from New Jersey. What music is Tom Papa listening to? He says he still listens to Arim and Prince, but he’s left Culture Club and Duran Duran in the eighties. Dude, Deuran Duran is fantastic.

Tom put On Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf. Come on, those are bangers, as the kids say. Tom also loves Ren DMC and Public Enemy, but says, now, I guess jazz is the thing I listen to that now, But I would hope that the young Tom would understand that someday he understand jazz. Kevin Hart has revealed that he’s traded in jeans for all bands, all slacks after turning forty years old. He was on with Jennifer Hudson and he said, I’m over forty.

I feel like a good pant is necessary. Jeans aren’t the same. Jean’s hurt and are not comfortable. Sam Morel talked about the Error’s tour to w AMC. He’s on a bus.

Sam says it’s a pretty efficient way to travel because you see what happens with airplanes now and just the stress of misflights and all that. You eliminate that, so that’s nice. When my daughter was in school in Chicago, I used to drive from New Jersey to Chicago. People thought I was insane, and I’m like, dude, by the time I got to the airport and the delays and all that, I’m halfway there anyway, and that’s when I would catch up on my podcast. I would like to drive Chicago right now.

I could listen to Bill Burr with Torry Gross. Sam talked about the country at this particular moment in Times and Your Letters to Sam Morrel. He said, I mean, you see how toxic everything is on the internet, and now bad everything is on the news, now mean and racist everyone is on Twitter.

And then you go into like a cafe and you’re like, I think it’s all right.

You know, it’s confusing because you just go around things seem to be okay, but you know things are tough from short Old Phil Wang is going to host the BAFTA Games Awards for the second year in a row. Video games we’re talking about here. Phil said, I’m so thrilled to be returning as host of this year’s BAFTA Games Awards. Last year’s show with such an uplifting celebration of this incredible industry. Blah blah blah.

I played games all my life, and these awards feel like my opportunity to think the people who made them. Because of games, I never had time to learn the guitar well enough to play at house parties, and I think that is a public service thank you games. Caloroga Shark Media Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News both today and tomorrow. Pretty robust for the weekend. Tons of news. We’re in this little comedy cycle now where we’ve had Melaney Burr and coming up on Tuesday, Bird Chrysler special. So plenty to talk about in the next few days into all of next week.

Actually, Bill Burr caught up with NPR. I’ll drop in and out of a half assed Bill Burr impression here and not impression, but I try and capture his bite. You know, he’ll speaking short said, it’s this little bit at us, So I’ll do that. In and out Bill tails NPR. He traces some of his rage and his dark humor to the emotional abuse he experienced as a child in Massachusetts.

Bill said, every way that you can be abused as what I’m talking about, I don’t know if you can ever undo things that were done to you. He realized at an early age if he could make people laugh, he was less likely to get hurt. Since then, he’s tried therapy and silo they’ve been aka magic mushrooms as a way of dealing with the past. He says both helps and lately has felt lighter on stage. Let me jump in here there is clearly let me back up.

I posted this on the Facebook group Pretty Daily Comedy News podcast group. A few things. As I’ve aged, I have increasingly been using the phrase many things can be true at once. For example, one, we should all try to be a better person today than we were yesterday. Absolutely true.

Two, many things can be true at once. There appears to be some sort of PR campaign right now to let us know that Bill Burr is a better man than he was yesterday, and that he softened and he’s changed or whatever, that he can dial the rage on and off. That is in every messaging I’ve seen for this current promotional cycle. And again go back to point one. I think we should all try and be better people.

But I’m noticing the PR campaign is what I’m saying. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I’m just telling you i’m noticing it. Bir said that whole myth that you can’t be happy and still be funny’s a myth. I’m a mess of a human being still, this far into life.

That is my existence to day, week to week, month a month. It’s just what it is. But it makes for good comedy. If you want to hear a good, solid hour bilburt Is on Terry Gross’s Fresh Air, you can grab that as a podcast. He talked about the mushrooms and said, I started tripping and it was goofy and I was laughing.

I was like, Wow, this is wild.

And then all of a sudden, like this feeling came over me and I couldn’t reall…

It was this profound sense of loneliness. I think I asked the question, which really is a cool thing to do when you’re on mushrooms, to kind of say, what are you trying to tell me? And it’s weird, like the answer just sort of comes. The answer is basically, this is how you felt growing up. It’s the weirdest thing.

For like a week after, I was who I would have been if all this stuff didn’t happen to me. It was like this honeymoon phase. This euphoria made me want to become a better person, made me want to fix my life. So seven days of that, oh my god, I’m not angry anymore. I felt this lightness in my chest.

But then after seven days the anger came back tenfold, and then I had to work through that. That was only like a three week thing, because I kind of saw who I could be. Bill has asked about some of his early career jokes about women. Bill said, if you watched my earlier stand up, all that crap that I said had nothing to do with women. It had to the fact with it.

I didn’t know how to get on with my life that I wanted to get married, I wanted to be in love, I wanted to have kids, and I didn’t know how to do it. I didn’t understand what my problem was, and I didn’t know how to fix it. One of my biggest fears when I was on her comic and I looked at older comics and never got married, never had kids. They were still doing shows and then hanging out afterwards, trying to pick up chicks at the end of it, and I was like, oh my god, I don’t ever want to be that guy. I wanted to get married at twenty six and I have like five or six kids, but I didn’t know how to do it.

Good stuff there, We’ll pick at that over the next few days. Brad Paisley Country Music Store. He’s doing a comedy benefit at Zany’s in Nashville on April thirteenth to benefit a free grocery store he operates with his wife. That store is called The Store. The show was called Groceries with Dignity Comedy Without.

Brad says, it’s such an amazing event in terms of the fact that comedy for charity is my favorite way to raise money for anything. Most charity events are too long. Most of them are asking a lot of people that attend. You’re asking for money, you’re asking for time. You usually feed them a badly catered meal.

There’s an auction that takes too long. None of that is part of this. This is literally what we call it. Groceries with Dignity Comedy Without. The Store is a nonprofit organization that offers a free referral based grocery restored at Nasville Families with Food Insecurity.

They open up their first location in twenty twenty. Last fall, I reveal plans for a second store. Brad said, we really thought this would take off, and it’s great to see that it did. No details yet on who’s appearing. The date is April thirteenth.

Doors open five point fifteen, show starts at six. It said. Zani’s in Nashville. Ticket price two hundred fifty dollars general admission. Before you’re like two hundred and fifty dollars, please remember it’s a fundraiser.

I don’t know what’s going on at Amazon. George Lopez’s special came and went, and I didn’t see any press about it. So as I was putting the show together, I saw, oh, Eliza Slessenger spoke to the La Times because her special came out last Tuesday. Now, aside from that, I suck and I’m terrible at podcasting, and I don’t know how to put a show together. I do every single day, type in the words even if I don’t record, I type in the words comedy and comedian into Google, and I visit five six seven websites.

And I didn’t say a thing about Eliza’s special coming out, or I would have mentioned it. Somehow fell off my radar.

Also, what I normally do is if I don’t know if Joe Comedian announces as spec…

And what I will do is I will start a file labeled June sixth, and I will put in there Joe Comedian Special out on surface today, and that way, when the day rolls around, I know it’s there. Eliza came and went so Amazon, I don’t know what’s going on. You make the Hulu publicists look awesome. Haley Times asked Eliza the title of your special, which apparently came out last Tuesday, A Different Animal is an aggressive title, but it also seems like it’s got a bunch of layers to it. How do you think the title relates to your comedy?

Eliza said, I wanted to do something that was very me, but also my comedy is a little bit of force, that aggression built into it. But I did want to sort of announce that I’m on this new platform, Prime Video, and I think what I bring as a performer is different. Every comic should feel that they’re bringing something unique. Otherwise, why are you an artist? In a literal way?

My comedy is a different animal because I do these animal sounds during my show, and I’m very theatrical, and what I do this is different comedy than what you might get somewhere else. I think I create a very special product. She then talks about putting on a show and says somebody came up with having Eliza and big letter behind me because the ideas you’re watching this and just in case you forget who you’re watching. We always wanted it to be on screen, and I wanted to be fun and polished and visually appealing. I thought about doing everything in white, and Amazon was like, that’s gonna be a little hard to watch the whole time.

They’re like, you should be the whitest thing about your set. She explains, I’m the first one to perform in leggings and sneakers when I’m on tour, but for a special it should be special. Ela Times said, having seen around town in La you do multiple sets to night and you’re very focused, stressed down, and very inconspicuous. What’s your mentality when you’re in that mode? Eliza said, I believe in loving the work, so when I go out at night, I’m there to get something out of it.

Always do the set, even if you don’t feel well, even when you’re tired. If there’s no real reason to stay home, like if you have flu, maybe okay, stay home, don’t spread it around or due I think maybe COVID was started by a bunch of male comics just breathing on a microphone, but I’m there to do work, and I’m there to find all the little weak points. I’m there to find new things. I’m there to find tags. So if I’m not on the road, I’ll get up like two three times a night.

I don’t do three sets as often as I used to you because by the third set, even if it’s only a twenty minute set, I’m still like, did I already say this to you? Or was that the other club boy? I know that feeling, especially when I record by out of sequence, I’m like, did I say this one yet? I either can’t remember if I’ve told the story or if I’ve told the story two days from now, if you know what I mean. Plus, I also host the weekly comedy thing on the Live one app and some stories get done here and there, and it usually happens when I’m recording that show.

I’m like, did I say this already? I feel like I did this one already. I try and keep good notes, Eliza said, I try to get up a few times a night because I don’t write anything down, so it’s all in my head. And so for me, it’s about retaining remembering the muscle memory of what gonna laugh last time? The only times thought it was crazy that she doesn’t write anything down.

She said, I write down like a word, like I’ll say gello, and then that’s my mental cue to remember the entire bit. Even though my memory feel shot since becoming a mom. I’m a big believer in the repetition that is the workout. So I’ll do a lot of shows where I riff. If you come see me in Hollywood, chances are I’m making up like a third of what I’m saying there, and then I feel like whatever’s good sticks, and that’s how we arrive at the hour Gavie Igleacias got his hands in the cement over at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Gabe said, the emotions are going, It’s very overwhelming. He paid tribute to other Latino entertainers who came before him with a shirt featuring photos of Vincente Fernandez, Chess Burrito, Desi, Ornez, John Like Guizamo, George Lopez, and Freddie Prinz. Gabe said, I thought, if I could find a way, how do you say a lot without saying anything? So I had this shirt made to showcase this. I love it.

I spent my childhood coming down here with my family. So the fact that I’m here now means a lot, not just me, but being Mexican. It’s like, this guy can do it, why can’t I do it? Everybody is a dream? What’s your dream?

And what are you doing to make it happen? People are mad at Jennifer Huts and she did a promo about her guest, Kevin Hart. They put out picture out on social media. You see Jennifer’s why the queen’s accent came out there? Uh drop the accent.

You see Jennifer smiling brightly in the frame where you can only see Kevin Hart from the forehead and up. One person on social media said, for the first time in my life, I have felt secondhand disrespect. Johnny. You never talk about John Mlanie. I know right.

Late Nighter had a cute story. David Letterman has given an Emmy statue that Letterman won for him. My next guest needs no introduction. He gave it to John m’laney’s father, who appeared in the episode that won the award. Lanie’s father recently got a package from Lenorman.

Dave wrote a note, I found this extra Ammy in a closet. I told the kids. Let’s give it to Chip, So here you go. I hope you love it the way television people love it, and it’s solid gold. Spinal Tap two The End continues a sequel to the nineteen eighty four This Is Spinal Tap is heading to theaters this fall.

September twelfth is the date, once again, directed by Rob Reiner. Spinal Tap two the n continues as Christopher Guest, Michael mckeinn and Harry Shearer, all in their original roles as one of England’s loudest bands. The plot this time spoiler spinal Tap is reuniting after fifteen years for one final concert. Reyner returns as Marty de Bergie, the documentarian who folls them on tour making Cameo Zelton, John Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and the New Zealand International Comedy Festival has announced their lineup. Lucas will host the Best Comedy Show on Earth at the sky City Theater, presenting an evening of hilarious comedy from a selection of crowd favorites and rising stars. Closing out the festival is Last Laughs, hosted by Eli Mathewson, also at sky City Theater. And that is your comedy news for today. Before we go, I just wanted to touch on one thing that’s been creeping up a little bit, specifically in the Apple podcast reviews.

Some people don’t seem to enjoy the feed drops that you get on Apple podcasts that say you may also like and then you get an episode of something. Let me just be transparent here. So why did I start this podcast? A few reasons. One, I was already hosting the Weekly Comedy Thing.

That’s a weekly show I host on the Live One app. I’m paid to host that show. I put the show together and I was noticing increasingly as they put the show together, I had all this extra material, and I’m like, Eh, why don’t I turn a podcast to that? So that’s one two emotionally, and I’ve talked about this when I was serious. I built all these comedy channels.

I put my heart and soul and I build this thing. It’s super popular for ten years, and then I get tagged out because I got a new boss who wanted to hire his assistant from Philadelphia and I basically got fired for no reason, so kind of annoying. So emotionally, this show you’re listening to right now, it’s mine. It’s not for sale. You can’t have it.

I’m not going to sell it to you. Maybe it sucks, maybe you hate it. I don’t think I hated if you’re listening this far in, but it’s mine. So emotionally, this is mine, right And then also I like to make money. Podcasting is my job.

I’m making money off this and the other shows on Caloroga Shark Media, including Palace Intrigue and Five Good News Stories. We put out the shows, we put commercials in the middle. If you don’t want the commercials, we have the premium subscription. Totally get it. But you know, I put a couple hours into this every day, specifically this one show, and it’s nice to turn a buck.

So the feed drops they pay really well, Like they pay really really well. I wish you could see my face right now. I’m looking at you in the ass going. It pays really well. So I get it.

I personally, I listen on podecasts and I don’t see those drops at all. They’re specific to the Apple Podcasts app and they go in as bonus episodes. So if they’re annoying you, Pockecast is a pretty good app. But like, I totally get it, and I hope you can understand where I’m coming from, all right, see tomorrow

Caloroga Shark Media. Hello, Johnny mag with a very busy Daily Comedy News. Bill Burr’s new specialize out today. But let’s talk about John Mulaney. Oh boy, where it has start.

I’m trying not to come out of the box super negative, but I made it ten minutes in. Can we all agree it wasn’t great. I know I’m gonna be swimming uphill here. I know people are gonna be like, John Mulaney’s wonderful. But was it?

I was on social media during the show and people were not saying awesome things. It was fine, and I think it really illustrates the first series, the Everybody’s in La series. When you do it in the middle of the Netflix comedy special and you can have Jerry Seinfeld sitting on the couch for whatever else is going on, or you know, somebody of that ILK comes by, it makes the show a lot easier. I felt it was like I compared it to a baseball game where you’re watching the first inning and You’re like, oh, Pictcher doesn’t have his best fastball today, and I’m like, Mulani does not have his fastball tonight. I feel like he got by on He’s John Mulaney.

Now, I’ve been in media for thirty years. Everybody’s first show if you want to call this the first show or the seventh show, whatever. But you know, things get better over time. So I’m not kicking a can and going cansel this thing. It’s terrible, but it wasn’t great.

I went through the reviews. I feel like most of the reviews were two thirds written before the show even aired, comparing it to the LA series, and then they like filled in, oh yeah, and Joan Bayaz said something, I feel like, you know, because this thing was at ten Eastern and a lot of the meetings on the East Coast, myself included, so I feel like they were written early. I mentioned it’s a lot of easier when you have Jerry sitting there, and The New York Times wrote how or the guests their answer. Mlanie’s format can lead to awkwardness among the panelists if the conversation doesn’t flow freely at first. That seemed to be the case with Michael Keaton telling a meandering story about going to Benny Hannah.

Joan bias is anecdote about the Reverend doctor Martin Luther King telling dirty jokes was much more entertaining, though she wouldn’t repeat any of them. Men’s Health had the headline. People are roasting John Malini’s new Netflix show as cringe and boring, One user wrote on Twitter, John Mulaney is one of, if not the funniest comedians, and yet somehow as Netflix talk show sucks. Another user said it’s extraordinary boring. Most of the pickup went to Joan Baiaz.

She said to John Mulaney, you could say I could say anything I want out here. We’re all here to be silly enough fun and as long as we recognize the fact that our democracy is going up in flames, we’re being run by a bunch of really incompetent billionaires. She didn’t mention the billionaires by name, but people had some good guesses. Joan said she once owned a Tesla and said, I hated that thing. I thought I was supposed to like it, so I drove off in it.

Within forty five minutes, I smashed it into an oak tree on my property. I was thinking, that’s a sign. So in my opinion, and it might be an unpopular opinion. Rough start for John Mulaney. Bill Burr is on Hilarious Tonight, Hi Hulu publicists.

How you guys doing it is called drop dead years. I’ve talked about the week. You’ve probably seeing the PR campaign for establishment Bill Burr. So we’ll see what the special brings. Are we going to get quote the old Bill Burr or is there some new version.

We’ll find out. Today Bill did a notable interview on the Fresh Air NPR show. It’s out as a podcast. I haven’t had a chance to put ears on a yet. I’m so behind in my listening.

This is what happens because it gets cold. When it’s warm, I go out and I’ll like run for an hour and I listen to things at two point two speed, so I can get through a lot of stuff. Plus I have to walk up the hill to get home, and you know, winds up being an hour and a half and get through a lot of pods. But my kids are grown now. I’m not sitting in the parking lot at soccer practice, and I’m not driving two hours to tournament, so I have to get my listening in anyway.

You don’t care about that, Bill Burr said, I’m trying to get regular people to stop yelling at each other and realize that it’s a select few group of nerds eating raw amends, doing their stupid workouts, competing with each other to have the biggest infinity pool, and the rest of us are getting pushed down? Is Bill making it sound like he has a part time job? Hold on, I want to know where Bill Burr lives. Google. I don’t know where Bill Burr lives right now, but I found an article from twenty eighteen December thirty first twenty eighteen Variety with the headline stand up comedian Bill Burr sells Mediterranean Via in Los Felice.

Bill purchased the property in twenty eleven for one point zero eight million. The nineteen twenty three Mediterranean Via offers three and potentially four bedrooms and three vintage bathrooms in twenty six hundred plus square feet. This article does not mention a pool. It also tells us though Ber maintains a modest, one bedroom and one bathroom co op on a high floor of a well maintained but otherwise unremarkable, one hundred plus year old, low rise red brick building a couple blocks west of the northern terminus of Times Square. So he does have a one bedroom above a badega in New York.

That’s what. Maybe I don’t know. Maybe that’s just where he’s living, in a one bedroom apartment in New York City on the West Side.

Also back in twenty eighteen, a variety reported that they had bought a place…

It’s unclear if that place has a pool. I have totally digressed. But you know, Bill saying, we’re competing with each other after the biggest infinity pool, and the rest of us are getting pushed down. Bill, you’re not part of the rest of us. I’m sorry, dude, you’re just not.

You were, but you’re not. Congratulations you were successful. It’s okay. I’m trying to be successful. I’m going to get a big house with an infinity pool.

With his podcast takes off, I’m gonna have three places in LA. I’m not hating on you. I’m just saying, let’s not act like you’re just scraping by Bill. As the rest of us are getting pushed down, they politicize the whole stupid thing, and we’re falling for it. I guess he’s saying he’s not a multi billionaire, and I like Bill Burr, I don’t want to sound like hating on Bilberr a lot of press this week.

Burr found an easy target in Elon Musk. He said, I just refuse to believe that his hand salute was an accidental two times see Kyle and he does it at a presidential inauguration. This is why I hate liberals. Liberals have no teeth whatsoever. They just go, oh my god, you believe this.

I’m getting out of the country. And he said that. I think before Rosy o’donna left the country. I’m not even gonna talk about that one. I was like, you’re just gonna leave the country because one guy with diet hair plugs and a laminade face, who makes a bad car and as an obsolete social media platform, Why does an e leave?

Why are we so afraid of this guy can’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Variety was curious why Bill filmed Dropped Dead Years in Seattle. Bill said, if I’ve done a show there before in a city, how much I love a city, and I feel like there’s gonna be a good amount of pushback from the crowd when you’re filming a standup special there’s cameras there, so people tend to be a little more agreeable, and I need that push pull thing to happen. I don’t want to be in an echo chamber. I’d rather have it more hostile than agreeable.

Variety asked, have you found that hostility more in liberal cities? Burn No, because I adjust my a whole vibe to whatever kind of STATEUM in. If I’m in a conservative place, I go more liberal. If I’m in a liberal place, I’ll go more conservative. It’s like trying to make an over medium Meg.

You know there’s an art to it. I don’t like it if I say something everybody goes yeah. It’s one side. Everything asides now, So I have to make sure if one side gets too excited that I’m agreeing with them, that I trash them, or maybe I trash myself. Political views is something you don’t ram down people’s throats, and I go over that double line a lot.

Sometimes I’m here, sometimes I’m over there. It depends what you’re talking about. He talked about clapped spoiler for the special, Okay, minor spoiler, it’s not going to ruin the special. At one point, Bill says, I’ve been married for eleven years and the audience goes whoo. Bill says, it’s like I could a chain her or a radiator.

What are you doing? I’m doing that for comedic effect. And I also don’t like that sound. I’d rather you say something mean to me in a loving way than something genuine in a complimentary way. I don’t what to do with that.

But if you tell me, hey, ahole, you’re a pretty funny to night, that means a lot to me. If you’re like, huh, life goes by so fast and I really want to make sure at the time, I’m like, oh God, stop talking like that. It’s creeped me out. Here’s a question that’s been coming up a lot lately with the established comedians. I’m not hating on the question.

It’s a good question. It’s an interesting question. Bill. Do you ever still bomb? Ber said, I do, but I know how to bomb gracefully.

I’m like an old fighter that knows how to take a punch, so I still lose the fight, but I don’t get knocked out. The key to bombing gracefully composure. You have to maintain control even when you’re bombing, and you have to make fun of yourself. Last week, I had a benefit on Tuesday, so I was working out my set at the Comedy Store, and I had no segues. I was owning up to the fact that my act wasn’t there yet.

There’s a reason they’re coming to see me in the original room on Sunday night. But people come out to see on those nights. They’re very forgiving. They like to watch the process, and they’re entertained watching somebody they’ve seen do well struggle a little bit. Bill says the store is one of his favorite places to work out new material.

I also like a lot of the satellite rooms that the younger comics are running. Young comics keep you young. You’re still old being not at act your age comedically around them, if that makes sense. If you perform to your generation, only you grow old with them. The comics that I love growing up never stop going to the gym, which is going down to the comedy club and getting in front of twenty somethings despite the fact they’re in your fifties like me, and learning how to get your fifty something year old ideas over to them.

If you go down there in your fifties and try to act twenty that’s going to be a train wreck. You got to understand that you’re like, they’re funny, old or relative. That’s my uncle saying dumb stuff. Again. They asked about the evolution of burrs act.

I don’t want to just be up there pointing my finger at the crowd the whole time. God knows. I was guilty of that early in my career. But that’s just where I was as a young man. I was lashing out everything.

As you get older, hopefully you realize that you bring some of the problems to the table and maybe the way you handle things isn’t the best way to do it. Being married and having kids and realizing that your behavior can affect these people you’re living with in a positive way or negative way really makes you confront your flaws. God knows, I have a bunch of them, a lot of things. I used to believe that women are difficult and blah blah blah. This was my issue of not understanding myself.

Good fun follow up. Does it make you uncomfortable that your past material lives online forever? Nah? Not at all, I though when people bring that up, because I go, you were alive when I said that. Yet fifteen years to get offended.

You’re just s getting around to it now. The sort of crap happened to comics. I grew up watching They did these jokes, and generally everybody laughed. Then the natal moves twenty years later, and the same people laughed at it, act like they didn’t. But the comedian gets herosent a time.

All the comedian is showing you is where society was at the time. Hollywood in Toto asked what on earth happened to Bill Burr Subetter. The Boston Natives counterculture jokes helped pave the way to superstart him. He wasn’t conservative by any means, but his willingness to call out woke’s insiduous tentacles set them apart from the comedy mainstream. Is twenty nineteen Netflix special paper Tiger confirmed it he was part of a rebel comedy movement, alongside Tim Dillon, Shing Gillis, Theovughn, Tyler, Fisher, Chrissy Maher and Moore.

Earlier this year, Burd took a stupefying position on the California wildfires. More recently, Burd lasted billionaires in the most ignorant manner possible. They cite the line where Burr said, these effing billionaires they need to be put down like effing at rabb dogs. Total rights comedy works best. One is a kernel of truth at the center.

Where’s the truth in burs rant? For what it’s worth, the capitalistic system that yields those evil billionaires has been pretty good to Burr. They get into Burr’s comments on Luigi Burr’s comments on elon Total Rights burst taking a heart left turn, No doubt that’s his prerogative. The problem is twofold, the country’s fearing to the right following the excessis of progressive leadership. He finds himself both out of step and siding with a movement that has fundamentally lost its way.

More importantly, is anything in his recent comments remotely funny? Angry? Yes, ignorant? Sure, ill informed, of course, funny not so much. Guitar dot com, your home for comedy news, had a minor spoiler for the special.

A teaser clip shared to social media showed a snippet of Bill’s Guitar Center segment. In the video, Burd says, I’ll give you the number one place to see sad men Guitar Center. Oh my God one of the saddest places on earth. Failed struggling musicians behind the counter, A bunch of men in loveless marriages to divorce, just walking around to go the guitars. Musicians are finding it funny.

Gibson Mark Agency replied to the clip on Instagram with a row of laughing emojis. Misham and Shore of Periphery commented, Jesus, he’s going for the jugular Questlove replied with a bunch of skull emojis. Lake Wyland of the Tone Mob podcast responded, the void desires customs shop guitars and it must be satiated. Bill Burr hilarious tonight. Other news, Nikki Glaser will return as host of the Golden Globes.

No surprise there. There’s been a lot of rumors and she did a great job. Why wouldn’t you bring her back? She should just do that until they kick her out. It’s a good gig and she did well at it.

Congratulations too, Nikki Glaser. There’s a new documentary about Mark Marin. It is called Are We Good? Directed by Stephen Fine Art’s The Hollywood Reporter recaps. I guess spoilers here towards the end of Maren’s twenty three special From Bleak to Dark, Maren tells the audience a high wire joke he’s been working on since his partner Lynn Shelton died in twenty twenty.

There are scenes of Maren workshopping the joke. The film chronicles the years in Maren’s life after Shelton’s death. It follows Mark as he returns to stand up and use the stand up to navigate the painful experience. The Donkeys’s home videos, recent footage of Maren living his life for testing new bits, as well as interviews with friends and colleagues like John Mulaney. In the end, HBO asks Mark Maren for a special and at boosts Maren’s confidence.

The Holly Reporter tells us the special makes Maren feel like he’s arrived and it becomes a place where his emotional artistic lives meet. Honestly. Quick hit from Gossip Corner, The Statesmen in Austin saw Tom Sigor and Berg Krescher at NADC Burger Apparently some sort of burger joint that we’re supposed to hit when we’re down. There never been there, there been Austin, never mind the burger joint. Luckily somebody had a camera out.

Burg Kreischer says, this is so good. This is so good. The chef says, it’s good with vodka too. Actually, we’ve been talking about doing like a secret menu. Yeah, we could have a secret like you want to turn this thing into two bears, one burger.

We could spikle with little poor osos. Should we do that? Sgora says perfect. I love secret menus Kreischer, Yeah, you should, Chef, we should do it. I’ll let you know what happened.

Joel McHale admitted he was an a hole to reporters on the set of Community. Joel said the reporters would be like, such a great show, just so amazing, and it’d be this one thing if we were on a red carpet and they were like, here’s this guy from this thing. But it was like, if you come to set, if you’re sitting on a set, you should have done some research. You should know what show this is. Avery reporters come back and be like, yeah, you really got me, And I was like, yeah, I probably should just enjoy the promotion not call people out.

All right. What happened with the Community movie? Is it ever coming? Out. Joel said, well, we got the money, which is one of the harder things to do, and everyone’s in.

That’s the other. It’s really coming down to schedules and a script was written, so this is real. We just got to get those schedules together. He did give a major spoiler with a laugh. He said, I’m not gonna tell you anything about it.

I’ll just say everybody dies. He doesn’t think Chevy will be part of this, and again he’s seen the script, so I guess Chevy’s not. But Joel said, I don’t think he’s allowed to. I don’t think it would happen. I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested.

Obviously, his unceremonious departure in season four pretty much did that end. And an interesting note about Daniel Sloss, he said he had to hire some security when performing in the US. After the UK’s Channel four Dispatches episode Russell Brand in Plain Sight disclosed allegations against Russell Brand, Sloss told Dispatches, according to Comedy dot co dot UK that claims that Brand was a predator were an open secret in the comedy industry. I’ve shared in the past, I worked with Russell Brand exactly once and its completely professional. I don’t know what else happened in mister Brand’s life, but I’ve also worked with Bill Cosby, who is completely professional.

Except for the Bill Cosby story that I’m not going to tell until he passes away. It’s a good one, trust me. And that is your awkward end to your comedy news for today. All right, Bill Burr, let’s see what you got see tomorrow.

Caloroga Shark Media. Hey there, Johenni mag with your Daily Comedy News man. I hope Andrew Schultz is okay. The poor guy, he just went out to take in some professional wrestling and he’s there and Logan Paul wanted to hear Andrew say some nice things about Logan Paul, but Andrew preferred to name Seth Rollins and see him punk and the phenomenal one and boy Logan Paul did not like that, pulling Andrew Schultz out of the crowd. Luckily, AJ Styles came to the rescue.

Let’s listen. I know who I want to see. I want to see AJ Styles. That’s who I want to see the night. Jeez oh no, come on, Logan, he’s a guest.

Come. Andrew Schultze is special on Netflix right now called Life. He might not have one soon. He is absolutely spectacular. This is no way to be trading a come.

Ind Janus so log and he’s a cast claudad Tjo Come on now, loggany cat. Th fire comes Styles. Styles. You wanna call out Paul and. I but now he comes out there to say Schultz and out Styles and Paul coming at it.

Hey take Styles, it’s hard to talk. The folks over at Hilarious, you know, my my friends at Hulu. They put together a really good campaign, this one from Adweek. Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, and Sebastian Maniscalco are sitting in a diner and in walks the Hulu mascot, which is basically the Hulu logo with like, uh, you know, mascot arms and legs. It’s a big time campaign including out of home ads placed near comedy venues in La New York and Chicago.

Is that where you need to reach? People think you need to reach Middle America? I guess this is just an imaging piece, a social media placements Influencer partnerships, Hi, Hello, Hello, Hello so uh Hulu dudes, come on man, I know it’s not the biggest show, but it’s the right show and I have filled out the Hulu media relations form and no one got back to me. You can get back to me. Go your show sucks, it’s terrible, your bad mouths all the time.

The show’s too small. That’s fine, but come on, someone get back to me. Influencer partnerships but not podcasts dedicated to fans of stand up comedy. Digital banners bus takeovers and dedicated billboards and posters at locations like Walt Disney World, at Disneyland Resort and in Times Square. Boy, this is a lot of money.

Anyway. The forty five second spot is called meet Up and it’s pretty good. Let’s take a listen, all right, it’s just about well, I wanted to introduce you guys to something or some way. Is this about religion? No, No, because you’re always doing.

That here they are, Bill Sebastian. I’d like to introduce you to Hulu. Oh wow, Hulu is getting into the stand up business and I think you guys would be perfect for it. They’re calling it hilarious. Jim, Yeah, what is that?

Well, that’s the Hulu mascot. I think it’s trying to shake your hand. Brand you stand up specials every month and now streaming on Hulu. Why is it looking at me like that? It’s not looking at you.

It doesn’t have a face. According to Aaron Goldman, EVP Creative Marketing of Disney Entertainment Television, it was Jim Gaffigan, who were told has a history in advertising, who came up with the concept for the spot and was quote a great partner in bringing Bill Burr and Sebastian Maniscalcout together for the campaign. HM possibly perhaps may be true.

Also possibly perhaps in their contracts they have you know usually with thes…

Could have been that, or Jim was just like, Hey, Bill and Sebastian, can the three of us jump on a zoom? I got to pitch you an idea? Who knows? Goldman said it was a total partnership from the beginning. Jim wrote the script and collaborated with Ryan Brasno, the SVP of Creative Marketing for Hulu, and Johnny Mazur, who is the executive creative director for Brand Marketing, who Gaff again collaborated with those guys to bring it to life.

I should note that the three comedians also improvised in riffed, which added some hilarious beats that ended up in the creative Guys, this is a forty five second commercial, so Jim sketched out I don’t know, the three of us are in a diner and the Hulu mascot walks in. This is not Godfather too. Goldman noted that in addition to the full spot, there will be shorter pieces rolling out on social and he also talked about the song. We made a custom hilarious song which is featured in the spot, based on Duran durant’z Notorious. We changed the lyrics to hularious and hopefully created a song that you can’t get out of your head now.

On that, I was curious who the hell sold out to Hulu? Was it Simon Labaugh who did this? And I have learned from the internet. Warner Chapel Music as a Chapel as a Chappelle, It’s not Dave Chappelle. Warner Chapel Music and Sony ATV Music ablishing own parts of Duran Durand’s catalog.

The Warner folks own the rights of the catalog from eighty six to the present, including many of the band’s hits, including Notorious. They also own the publishing rights to all the band’s current and future compositions. Wow Future deal Duran Duran did Wow. I am a I won’t say I’m the biggest Duran Duran fan, but I’ve been known to drive around listening to Duran Duran and you could play both hungry like the Wolf and Rio on Endless Repeat and I Will never tell you to turn it off. Notorious is also one of my favorite Stranduran songs and also a big fan of A View to a Kill, which is, as you know, the best James Bond theme.

Goldman tells us they’re looking at using the Hulu mascot as a connective thread for future hilarious campaigns, and he got the funny in saying, in the meantime we take turns wearing it to the office. Bill Burr is out tomorrow, then in April we get Jessica Curson, august Ralph Barbosa and Sebastian Maniscalco. In November, this article didn’t mention who else is in the list. I’m racking my brain here to remember who else they announced, and I’m not sure that they’ve announced anybody. Maybe I forgot one anyway, Hulu, paul A Sis get back to Me.

Trey Crowder specials out today on the eight hundred pound Grilla YouTube channel. In trash Daddy, Trey tackles everything from the absurdity of cultural and social stereotypes to his unusual and hilarious childhood upbringings as he reflects on the ultimate parental role as a trash daddy. And you to see who the New York Times profiled. They profiled friend of the show, Jason Zenneman of The New York Times. Jason and I actually recently connected.

He’s going to come on the show in a few weeks as we get closer to the twentieth anniversary of Mitch Hedberg passing away. I’m a big fan of Mitch and just wanted to observe the moment, and I asked Jason to common So we’re gonna record that in a week or so. Other people at The New York Times ask Jason, which do you enjoy more? By the way, this article speaks to me, I am aligned with everything Jason says. Here, Jason Zieman, which do you enjoy more?

Finding a new angle on a well known figure or introducing readers to an unfamiliar subject. Now, if you listen to me every day, you know what I’m going to say. You know what I say about the festivals, right, Jason said, I take more satisfaction in writing about somebody who nobody knows about. One of the great things about this beat is you spend time in improv houses and clubs, and get a sense of who’s gonna break big in the future. I remember seeing Hannah Gatsby at this tiny theater.

I was like, this is going to be a big part of the discourse, and it’s engaging in some really provocative ideas. Being the first critic to see her show in American and introduce her to readers was really satisfying a men a million years ago. Back at Sirius, I used to really love spotlighting artists. I remember we had Hannibal Burris week. I remember we did Tim Mention Week.

We used to love going out of our way and going, hey, audience, check out this really cool person who you haven’t heard of yet. Jason ads, I think one of the jobs of critics is to say just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s good. These people who are not getting a spotlight or often some of the most gifted artists times. How has the comedy landscape changed and you started covering it fifteen years ago, Jason, Increasingly their artists doing work on TikTok and Instagram, that we need to do a better job of figuring out ways to recognize For a lot of teenagers, their introduction to comedies like mine their first experience with comedy isn’t watching late night talk shows. Their stand up comic is probably gonna be on social media, So we have to meet people where they are.

Now. That’s interesting to me and I totally respect it. For my personal thing doing this podcast, I feel like if I started getting on here and chasing after TikTok comedians, I would be the Paul Bashimi, Hello fellow kids, meme and just at some point it’s not my generation, it’s not my thing. I will stay in my lane. I admit to living on old Man Mountain and don’t think Jason’s wrong.

I just think if I started doing it, it would be like, come on, oh Man. Jason says he sees live comedy three or four times a week. I still go out a lot, but less. There’s two reasons for that. One to get a sense of who’s out there.

There’s less of a need to go as often. I totally get that. But the bigger reason is the bounty of comedians online. When I started this job, I was covering comedy as a kin to covering theater. Before I wrote about someone, I wanted to see them live.

But increasingly the way that most people are consuming comedies through social media and streaming platforms. So now I spend more and more time looking at comedians online and listening to podcasts. That totally makes sense. And you’ve heard you talk about this. I’m glad Jason said it.

The question are you someone who laughs out loud at shows? I call this emperor of room syndrome. Jason said, I suffer from the same thing that most comedians do, which is that if you see as much comedy as I do, you laugh less. That that doesn’t mean I enjoy it less. I’m not someone who laughs a lot in the audience.

Sometimes that makes me self conscious because if I’m in a room with very few people, it has a big impact if no one’s laughing. So I’ve even found myself at times fake laughing just to not distort the room, or because I feel it’s almost rude not to. But I try to be honest with my laughter. Great stuff. A big fan of Jason’s work.

IHeart had their twenty twenty five iHeart Podcast Awards. This is one of those awards that if you win, you’re excited, and if you’re not part of it, you just kind of eye roll it. It’s you know, iHeart they make podcasts. I’m not saying that they have their thumb on the scale, but you know there are basement podcasts like this one, and then there are the establishment podcasts. So you know, Best Sports Podcast went to the Kelsey Brothers.

Sure, but you know, I bet if we really dug down, somebody’s doing like a really great Kansas City Royals podcast, if we really took the time to look. But that’s not how these big shiny awards like. And the winner for Best Podcast goes to Tony and Jose from Kansas City. They host Royals Talk like that doesn’t make for a good award show, So understand what this is the podcast of the year, Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. I’m not saying it’s bad.

I’m just saying, you know, somebody’s probably doing a pretty good Game of Thrones podcast out there too. It just doesn’t make for a good award show. On a same note, Best comedy podcast, Fly on the Wall A’sdana Carvey David Spade sure makes a lot of news, great stories, SNL, hot topic, talented guys, funny guys, a great podcast to listen to. Same thing, and I’m not saying, oh, I should have shot I should not have won Best Comedy Podcast, No way. But you know, is uh Carvey and Spade better than what Tim Dillon’s doing?

I don’t think so. Best ad Read got to give it out an award for Best ad Read for some reason, that went to Conan O’Brien.

Speaking of Conan, Late Nighter reports that Conan O’Brien Must Go has been f…

Well, yeah, Conan is red hot right now, although Late Nighter points out, for those paying close attention, the announcement is less a season three pick up as much as they shuffling the deck of what we already had. They explained Conan’s second season was set to run for six episodes that was ordered just after a month, but according to the new announcement, season two will now consist of just three episodes, and HBO did not specify how many episodes have been ordered for season three. I’m gonna guess three. Netflix just did this with Megan Markle. They said, oh yeah, we renewed Megan Marko for season two.

The thing is those episodes already in the can. That’s like me telling you this podcast has already been renewed. For next Weekend. Season two all three episodes. Dun’t do you hate that when like you’re excited at something, are you watching the Pit?

The Pit is the medical drama on Max. Fifteen episodes. It’s almost like old school TV. You remember we used to get twenty six episodes of things in the good old days. Now we usually get eight.

Term in case of Con O’Brian, we get three. Fifteen is amazing anyway. Conon O’Brian Season two all three episodes coming out in May. Rommi usef as a project called Number one Happy Family USA, which follows a Muslim American family in post nine to eleven America. The premiere it takes place on September tenth, two thousand and one.

I can tell you exactly where it was that day. I was at Jones Beach romy premier these series at the south By Southwest TV and Film Festival and explained there’s a representation warning in the beginning of every episode that tells you not to use this show as representation. I’ve had a very torn relationship with representation and the idea of what it should do or what it is. This is a show about capitalism. I think when you watch the first couple episodes.

You’ll see that, but it’s certainly not representative of Arabs or Muslims, many of which I think will see things that they really appreciate, and other things will be like, what the f Rommi, why did you do this stuff? You revealed he pitched the series during Trump’s first term. That’s how long it’s been. Remember the happy Trump be sad Now by the way, I don’t know if you guys noticed the audience laughed. I don’t think he likes this either.

I haven’t seen him smile once the whole the first time. He’s always laughing. So yeah, shout out to him. This guy’s miserable. Send your letters to Robbie usef.

All eight episodes premiere April seventeenth on Prime Video. And that is your comedy news today. Back tomorrow we’ll talk about Mullenie. I didn’t forget about Mullenie. But I’d also on stay up til one am to record the podcast and Bill Burr as a special.

I don’t know if you heard about that. That’s out tomorrow as well, So plenty to talk about tomorrow. See then,

Caloroga Shark Media. Heidley Ho. I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. John Malaney Salk Show is live tonight, but I’m gonna talk about that in a second. I think there’s an even bigger story.

Netflix has announced a relationship with Tony Hinchcliff. They’ve ordered three Killed Tony comedy specials, as well as a new stand up comedy special from Tony. First Kill Tony. Netflix will tape at the Comedy Mothership in Austin, Texas and stream on Netflix April seventh. In a statement, Tony Hinchcliffe said, myself and our entire crew of Austin comedians, peers and upcomers are excited for the opportunity to share our chaotic, insane show with a whole new chunk of the globe.

It all started in a room in the Comedy Store with twelve audience members and barely anyone watching. In twenty thirteen, After world tours and seven hundred plus Monday releases on YouTube, it seems the persistence is paid off.

And now to think that I can pull a name out of a bucket and that person will …

Is both exciting and frightening. It’s the most spontaneous, improvised show that’s out there. The great freedom given to us by Netflix so you keep the show in its pure form is a comedian’s dream and we can’t wait to Netflix and kill I see what you did there, Tony Hinchcliff. That’s really exciting, both as a comedy fan and a podcaster, just to see something go from like an idea and now this is that. It’s a loaded word, but I use it on purpose.

Establishment to kill Tony. This is it, Tony. You’re no longer an outsider. This is no longer some little show where we’re just doing our thing. You are now establishment.

Kill Tony, and I’m not saying that’s bad. I will do establishment Daily Comedy News. Netflix, write me a check. I’ll be there. I’ll even wear a tie.

But I’m very happy for it. Tony and the Gang. What a great show. Kill Tony if you’ve never checked it out. Okay, John m’laney, Netflix crushing it.

John m’laney, tonight. Sorry that awkward pause there was Are we having an earthquake? I can’t tell if it was that or if my boiler were super loud. Anyway, by the time you hear this, you’ll know if there was an earthquake yesterday. I’m leaving that in.

Where was I? Boy? That was distracting John Mulaney. He’s live on Netflix tonight, ten East seven West. John is making the press.

He was on CBS Good Morning. It seems like once you make the establishment, I’ll keep using that word today. You go on CBS this morning. Is there a big overlap with stand up comedy and CBS This Morning or is somebody over there who books the show just into it. It just seems like, hey, John Mulaney wants to get the word out, I’ll go on CBS this morning.

Just seemed like a disconnect to me. Maybe Gaff can put a bug in his ear. Who knows. I pulled a few clips. No, now, slowly and thoughtful.

Mulaney is speaking in these clips, and this first clip he talks about his early career. Yeah, there were some early times where it wasn’t so much that the audience wasn’t with me. I didn’t know what I was putting out there. You know, you grow up watching a ton of comedy and I’m sick but I’m not contagious. By the way, for all your viewers, you grew up watching comedy, and there were so many styles I liked, and so many comedians I liked, from like early radio to Chris Rock, the Simpsons, Cone and everything.

So I just had no sense of what I even wanted to do myself, except that I wanted to be on stage doing stand up. But I didn’t know if that meant George Carlin or Stephen Wright or George Wallace or what. So I remember kind of trying out ways of being and many of those falling flat. I’d say, not to be corny, but I’m obviously I’m still figuring that out, and it’s a very kind of obvious lesson. You just kind of a presenting some heightened version of your most authentic self is what works, and your most authentic self might be like strange, cryptic one liners, like, it’s not like you have to be confessional or anecdotal about your life in order to be authentic.

Next up, some of John’s influences. It is interesting choices here, and a little bit about his look. We’ll talk about more about his look in a second. I really like people like Spaulding Gray. I really like Geene Shephard.

I really like storytellers, and George Carlin had a lot of that too, like his Irish Catholic boyhood and stuff like storytellers who get into the get into interesting personal details that are singular to them. They’re not saying to the audience, this is your life. They’re saying like, this is my life, And when presented in a certain candid way, it’s so disarming. People really see their own lives in it. I liked that a lot.

But I also liked Bernie Mack and Deaf Jam and big personality comedians and really forceful performers like Paul F. Tompkins, who were like wears like three piece suits and is still telling personal stories that way. So I wanted the presentation of a deaf Jam comic with sort of the nuanced person stuff of a Spalding Gray. And one more time, here’s John Mliny talking about where the suits came from. I did a show at the Laughing Skull in Atlanta, really fun club there, and I was wearing a checkered button down shirt and jeans, and there were five opening comics because there’s a great local scene there, so five people were on the show before me.

They all wore the same thing as me, a checkered shirt and button down jeans. Everyone in the audience was dressed like that, and I remember thinking, I’m twenty seven. There’s no reason I should have the microphone except that in this you know, con job of entertainment, I’m declaring that I’m the headliner, and I thought i’d like to look like the headliner, and I’d like to look like the entertainer for the night. So no matter where you’re going, you’ve gotten a sitter, you’ve paid the cover charge, you’ve gotten your dog created and medicated, whatever you need to do to go out for the night. And as silly as it may be, and as sort of maybe corny as it may seem in you Know twenty eleven, like I’m gonna wear a suit because I’m the entertainer for the night.

And also it’s a bit like I have to take charge of the room. Nothing I’m saying is important, so I have to act like it is. Malane eats Old CBS. He likes doing the show live because I feel like there’s more at stake. I love it.

It’s the best. The host asked, is it a feeling like coming against a cliff and dangling over it, and Melanie said, no, it’s dangling over it all the time. It’s a fun feeling to know that hopefully a lot of people are watching and it’s live globally with no delays, and you could really damage your career. That’s funny. John and the CBS crew went shopping to Amba Music in Hollywood and was asked, you know when you come to a place like this to people leave you alone.

Ma’lanie said a little bit. My joke is thought, I’m like Lewis Firechon, I mean a lot to a small group of people. The topic of John sobriety came up and does he think about it every day? M’laney said, well, that’s a good question. I don’t think about cocaine opioids in some big word Benzo ds Speren every day.

I’ll acknowledge that I understand the vigilance I need. I don’t think about it every day. I just don’t. I do think about the ways I can lead my life to perhaps never feel the kind of strain that got me there. So yeah, sobriety maybe being like a bigger term than just abstaining from the chemicals.

I definitely think about that every day. John joked about the division of labor in the house. He said, my wife and I just welcomed a baby girl into our family. My wife takes care of the five week old and I take the two year old. That’s not an equal distribution of labor at all.

Saying you have a five week old, I’ll take a two year old. That’s like saying I’ll transport this convict across state lines. You hold a potato Cool move by Josh Johnson this Romanja dot com. Josh noticed a trend during ticket sales for his comedy tour. Resellers were buying up tickets and inflating the cost, forcing fans have to pay big time prices to go to a show.

He didn’t like that, so he decided to do something about it. He said, today I refunded over nine hundred tickets to one show. A venue contacted me and told me the day they went on sale that they believe a lot of blocks of tickets were sold to resellers. One of the things that really bothers me on this tour is all of you trying to buy tickets and finding out they’re sold out and the resale price is astronomical. Please don’t pay more than the intended price of these shows.

I would rather have empty seats than any of you pay a lot more for tickets. I’m trying to add in as many shows as I can and we’ll come back to your city soon enough. Thank you for being patient with me as I figure this whole thing out. He included a screenshot from stub hub showing a one hundred and forty nine dollars ticket that was brought back down to fifty nine to fifty after being relisted for the original price on ticket Master. Josh said, all these tickets in Newark that were sold to resellers and now vailblel again so friends can purchase them at the intended price.

The intended prices range from thirty nine to fifty to fifty nine to fifty. Josh advised fans to join waitless at Josh Johnsoncomedy dot com to be notified when he adds more shows, and said thank you for all being patient with me as I figured this all out. That is awesome, great job out of him. A lot of buzz on him. He’s putting out a lot of material, keeping an eye on Josh Johnson.

Bosston dot Com reported the tailor, Solon said noted how young her crowd was. Taylor is thirty one. Now. She noticed some of the audience members were kids, and shared a video of the exchange on Facebook and wrote in the caption, apparently my matinee show in Boston was a middle school field trip. Tomlinson said to an audience member, you don’t know about Noah’s Ark?

Oh my god, are you serious? You’re twelve? Oh f you’re twelve? What are you doing here? You should not see my stuff before Noah’s Ark?

Are you here with a parent? This is your mom? Oh my god, you have the coolest mom alive. I’ve only had like a few twelve year olds ever seen me live, And every time I gotta go back to church, gotta clean it up. This isn’t good.

A voice from the crowd yells, I’m eleven, Taylor, you’re eleven. F If there’s a ten year old here, I’m walking off eleven. You shouldn’t be here. You should be at home waiting for your Hogwarts letter. What the f?

Another person yelled out, I’m thirteen, Taylor said, Thirteen’s fine. You shouldn’t have how the world works. I’m not doing any more afternoon shows. I didn’t know y’all were gonna treat it like daycare. I thought this was a fun, sexy brunch crowd.

I didn’t know we were coming here instead of the park. Hilarious Chelsea Handler in Austin. Let us know that she isn’t going to have sex with Elon Musk. She asked the crowd. He means, did anyone vote for Elon Musk to be the president?

I mean, can’t we come together, Republicans, Democrats and say we don’t want that. Can’t we agree on that at least, you know the first Trump presidency for instance, I let it take me down, I let it steal my joy, and I’m not going to do that again. It’s the power of being optimistic in the dark and not going down a wormhole. Then the host asked Chelsea would she date Elon Musk and try to persuade him away from the dark side? You know, Chelsea Handler once stated Joe Coy, who hosted the Golden Globes and till just a horrible, mean joke about Taylor Swift.

But I’m not going there today. Scott Beckert relax I got to beat in over the weekend. I don’t need to do it again. Chelsea said, there’s a lot I would do for the country, but having sex with Elon Musk is not one of them. I can’t.

I like a variety of men. I like men in my life. I’m not a settled down kind of girl. Apparently, Leslie Jones had an awesome time at ae W Wrestling. She was at Revolution twenty twenty five, which was live streamed on Amazon.

Fans noticed how enthusiastic Leslie was. One wrestling fan observed on social media hate to be the one that paid five hundred to be sitting behind her. Another wrote too, that was on the other side of the arena and up the stairs and could still hear her screaming. That woman was thirsty. A Leslie Jones fan said she’s perfect for us late.

I hope she’s enjoying herself. Folks in Houston who went to see Matt Rife over the weekend got a surprise opener. Mo a Mare showed up said it, Paul Wall Mo did a short set. Paul Wall did a short rendition of the hit song Grills. Did you watch Deli Boys on Hulu?

Yat I powered through that that is a massively entertaining I recommend from me. They did some fun marketing for it ahead of the release. They drove around with a Deli Boy’s food truck. Well, not the people in the show, the marketing people. Joe Ortiz this SVP of Marketing at Onyx Collective, and he said in a statement, Deli Boys is truly anything but expected, and our campaign had to follow suit.

We created a bold, in your face campaign that was disruptive and above all fun. They did a block party with a branded storefront in New York with free chai and appearances from the cast.

If you’re on Sunset Boulevard, you’ll see a forty foot billboard, and if you’re in New York City over by Penn Station, you’ll see a three D billboard. It is a good show. I hope people check it out. The Traveling Deli was in New York at Union Square on February twenty sixth. It stopped off at south By over the weekend.

It’ll be in Chicago on the sixteenth for the Saint Patrick’s Day River Dying Festival. Wheretiez said the campaign was designed to mix crime, comedy and culture and away never seen before. What a great quote. It allowed for bold, creative, grounded and cultural relevance that endeared audiences broadly and represents community authentically. Melaney Tonight, ten East, seven West.

Questions Answered in This Episode

When is Bert Kreischer’s new Netflix special coming out?

Bert Kreischer’s Netflix special is releasing on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Does Bert Kreischer still bomb on stage?

Bert explained he doesn’t have to bomb if he doesn’t want to, but sometimes avoids using tricks that ensure success to test if material truly works, similar to how Chris Rock develops new material.

What does Bert Kreischer think about alt comedy rooms?

Bert said he’d perform better in alt rooms like Largo or UCB because his storytelling style fits better there than at the Comedy Store where crowd work and setup-punchline jokes dominate, but he hasn’t done enough alt room sets to prove it.

Is Bert Kreischer doing political comedy in his new special?

Bert said he avoids preaching politics on stage but isn’t afraid of political humor; he tells stories about his beliefs like his views on guns or makes jokes about his daughter thinking he’s sexist rather than directly preaching.

What is Hollywood’s current approach to comedy projects?

Hollywood is investing more in comedy-driven TV and movies with less network control, allowing comedians creative freedom similar to how Joe Rogan’s podcast succeeded with minimal investment.

Who is Nish Kumar and why is he getting attention?

Nish Kumar is a British comedian whose material attacks figures like Jordan Peterson and critics of woke culture; the New York Times highlighted him as a bold voice willing to discuss controversial topics with reckless honesty reminiscent of Bill Hicks.

Caloroga Shark Media. Hey there, it’s Johnny Mackets, some barking dogs trying to tell you about today’s daily coming news. Look, dogs, I gotta record this thing. I’mount of time. I gotta get move in here.

It’s a Tuesday, but there doesn’t seem to be a big Netflix special this week. I think they’ve cleared the runway so John Mulaney can have all the attention and the PR team working on that high dogsky. I wonder if you guys can hear them or not the noise cancelation may or may not have gotten rid of them. I’ll find out by listening back, just like you did anyway. Bert Kreischer is the Netflix special next week.

Friday did a big profile with Bert Krescher, and they were curious, Hey, Bert, do you ever still bomb? Where it said I don’t have to bomb if I don’t want to. Sometimes it’s good not to bomb, per se, but to not lean on those little tricks that ensure us to do well. Chris Rock’s a perfect example. Chris Rock works out new material.

He doesn’t do any of the preaching on stage, the walking back and forth. Though, let me tell you something, none of that he’s really he almost reads it off like a book to find out if the material really works. I’ll do a version of that. There are jokes that don’t work, there are stories that don’t work that I commit to you and tell the whole thing anyway, just to see if there’s anything in it really, really insightful answer there, Bert, do you ever go to alt comedy rooms and find it more challenging? Bert said, yes, of course, I haven’t done it in a while.

I always think I would have done better in those alt rooms because I’m a storyteller, and that’s a more alternative approach to comedy. It feels easier to swallow at the Largo or U se Be or typewriter Dynastate, whereas at the comedy store you have guys doing crowd work and set up punchline, and when you tell stories sometimes it confuses the audience. I always wondered how I would perform at those places, but I didn’t do it enough to be honest. A variety mentions minor ish spoiler here, I won’t ruin it for you, but there is a political comment in the special, and they asked Bert about that. I won’t get into the specifics.

Bert explained, I don’t have a problem telling you I am. I don’t want to alienate you if you come to my show and preach politics. I also don’t mind telling you I have two little girls and a wife, and I stand for women’s rights, so I think that’s undeniable. I don’t mind telling you I own a couple of guns. I’m not going to preach my views on the NRA on stage.

I’ll just tell you a story about having a gun. I’ll tell you my daughter thinks I’m a misogynists and make a joke about it, or tell an abortion joke. There should be a joke. If you go out and start preaching politics, sometimes you lose me. It’s sexier when I don’t know your politics.

I like when a comedian’s politics are assumed. So I like to stay away from political comedy, but I’m not afraid of it. Interesting follow up here, Variety. I heard you send a custom Berg Kreischer calendar to people around Hollywood? Is that true?

I do what’s in there. It’s all my sexy pictures. Will get you one if you want, Variety. I’m intrigued anyway. What’s the vibe around Hollywood?

These days. In terms of pitching projects, Bert said, it’s the gold rush right now. Hollywood is re envisioning the way they make TV and movies. You look like in a place like Netflix that invests maybe two hundred and fifty grand on a special for the majority of comics and sees a wild return on that money. Hollywood’s now going let’s step it up a bit.

What if we allow them the freedom to say whatever they want and maybe we could make a movie that one day was thirty five million dollars, So let’s see if we can do it for seven million dollars. I feel very lucky to be alive and working at this point. TV and movies are about to explode in Hollywood in a really fun and crazy way. It’s going to be a lot of streamers. I don’t think we’re going to be going to the box office.

But if you look at Shane Gillis’s show Tires that was made on a minimum and it’s a great show. Shane Gillis, without a doubt, is probably the most talented comedic actor of our generation. I think people are looking at him and going, if Shane’s there, then what about THEO Vaughn? What about Naper, Ghetzee, what about Dan Soder. It’s gonna be really cool to see Ralph Barbosa’s first TV movie or Renee Vakas first TV show.

Whatever they decide to do, they’re gonna give comics a lot more freedom. Us comics, we don’t need a ton of money. We can make money on the road. We just want to make things for our fans. Look what happened to radio and podcasting.

Joe Rogan runs media. In my opinion, he affected an election that was based on an eight hundred dollars investment buying a zoomer corder and two mics. It changed the media landscape, and I think that’s about to happen with movies and TV. I don’t think you’re gonna be able to get a ton of people in the movie theaters. You’ll need ten pole events to get people in the movie theaters.

You’re gonna have to get Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Shaquille O’Neil, and Shane Gillis. I’m someone who had a movie at the box office and even I’ll wait until it comes to streamers. I have a screening room in my house. I want to use my stuff. Netflix is a great place to release stuf because they’re so hands off.

Tom Sigre has a project coming out I think in April. If I’m not mistaken, that was untouched by Netflix. It’s gonna be wild as s sires as Shane and John mckeebrew’s fingerprints all over it. It does look like Network Notes. It looks like a bunch of boys trying to make their buddies laugh.

I think that’s the direction comedy’s going in. Brady said, do you think we’re in a comedy renaissance? Burt? Oh? Yeah, stand up comedy right now is where it was when Steve Morton, Rich Pryor, Sam Kinnison Andrew Dice Clay were making specials.

That’s two different generations, Burt, right before they took over the box office. Look at all these great specials that have come out recently. Hollywood producers are getting younger and younger and every day, and they’re enjoying these comedic voices. They’re gonna be like, how do I get you to do your thing for me? From the New York Times Turn of the show Jason Cinnamon under the headline is this British flamethrower the comic best suited to take on Trump, he went to go see Nish Kumar.

Jason writes, this is not comedy that’s trying to change minds. Here he attacks manosphere podcasters like Jordan Peterson, the Canadian professor turned popular anti woke guru, as a radicalizing influence, and comedians like Jimmy Carr who enabled them for going on their shows. He also criticized the left for fixating on the wrong questions like whether people can enjoy good art by bad people. We all do, he says, with a refreshing conclusiveness, which is why he adds, this is very f I have preread this. We should all thank Russell Brand for never producing anything worthwhile.

No one heard those allegations of sexual assault and thought, well, how well I enjoy get him to the Greek That is very funny. Zennaman says. What makes Kumar stand out meet the moment is his lack of caution. His funniest material can be appealingly reckless. His most virtue, also, bit is an elaborate consideration of the assassination attempt of famous person who’s on TV a lot from New York City and own some casinos.

I don’t need a visit from the fed types. I’m just telling what Jason Zeneiman wrote. Chick it up with that there’s no doing it justice on the page, but its rigorous justification of violent thoughts carried the spirit of the ferocious comic Bill Hicks in a way that Jason z Intimate hasn’t seen in many years. Very interesting. If feel listen to the show all the time, Niti’s name tends to come up.

It tends to be a weekend items. I usually moved the British stuff to the weekends, and I see him breaking through over here. The Last Laugh podcast caught off with George Wallace. I thought his comments about Johnny Carson were very interesting. We’ll get to that in a second.

George says, marketing is just another name for BS. So that’s why I knew Trump is a bs er because it’s what I do. All bs ers know each other. We don’t know each other, but we know each other. You can see the BS coming from around the corner.

It’s what we do. So Wallace talked about being on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He killed the first night and was invited back on the show three more times, but he said he never got the wave over to the couch. As George tells it, I never got invited over to the couch, but I found out something. He recalls a story he heard from the manager of band leader Doc Severnson.

So, as the story goes, Carson quote didn’t get along with unquote people of color. Wallace started to notice that he wasn’t the only black comedian who do not get called over to the couch. He points out that Red Fox never guest hosted the Tonight show to fight the fact that the studio was next door, and shares a story about being backstage with What’s Happening star Shirley Hymnfel when she got bumped from a scheduled appearance. She said f Johnny Carson as loud as she could and chatted, I’ll never do this effing show again. Wallis recalled that with a laugh in the shake of his head.

Did it bother Wallace when he realized he may have been treated differently by Carson? Of course it did, because when you do in the show and you get nineteen applause breaks, that warans you to say hello. At least. I just find it interesting. I have no idea what the breakdown of comedians waved over to the couch is or not.

Will reach out to Mark Malcoffee, used to do the Carson podcast. I will do that as soon as we’re done recording here. You know, out of one hundred comedians, did two get waved over? Did five? Did ninety nine?

I don’t know of the two, five or ninety nine that got waved over. I don’t know what gender they were. I don’t know their background. I don’t know the religion. I don’t know what state they were from.

I don’t know if they were British, I don’t know if they were. Drew carry with classes he got waved over, but so I don’t know. I also don’t know, never mind getting waved over what the booking look like. So that’s a fair question. Caleb Heern did a show at the University of Arkansas and The Arc Traveler caught up with him.

Caleb explained, the politics came to me so early and so naturally because I up fat, gay, and poor in Missouri. Casual racism and homophobia made him political at a very young age. Politics dictates the whole of our lives, especially if you’re somebody who has marginalized identities. He says he focuses on causes rather than candidates. He works with housing and the Kansas City Tenant Union here and explains, I think hopelessness is a very privileged perspective.

I don’t really have time for hopeless people. The people I know that of the most hope are doing the most, and that’s what you need to do, especially if you have more privileged identities. We get to this one. I’ve bounced this a few times. The show’s been so busy, and I just bumped four stories.

Right now, let’s hit gossip corner. Apparently there was some speculation regarding Jamie Fox, who I used to work with. I’m not going to say we were best friends or anything, but I clearly worked with him and in the room with him. I had many conversations with him. Anyway, there was speculation about an alleged illegitimate son.

On March third, Jamie’s nephew p J Stick to his Instagram account and shared a story indicating that Uncle Fox has no son. Jay also added the decline this person of being called a son would be him and no one else. I don’t remember Jamie having a nephew, but I have not worked with Jamie in probably fifteen years at this point, so PJ. I don’t know how old PJ is, but he could have been three. You know, is now eighteen years old.

So that I don’t remember a nephew doesn’t mean anything. I’m just telling you my personal experience, because if you listen all the time, you know that I kind of sort of know Jamie a little bit. Anyway. A man on Twitter had alleged Jamie to be his father and accused him of not being a nurturing parent. Now that I will speak to having been around Jamie and family members, he’s a family guy.

Just trust me all that. I’m not going to tell you things that were probably private. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Jamie Fox, Eric Bishop is a family guy. PJ began his video laughing over the rumors, suggesting they’re all baseless, but there’s a twist.

Currently, after pj’s video, the accuser took to his own YouTube channel, suggesting that Fox to go over a month’s respond to the claims, further adding that he is grateful that PJ and Fox cleared this up because he was joking about the alleged marks. He shared a video of an apology for Fox and his family. I don’t know what’s going on there. James Acaster has confirmed that his Channel four show was axed after a disastrous pilot and says everything went wrong. A castor hosted a sixty minute episode of People Person.

On that show, a panel of comedians guess which member of the public from a lineup is the answer to each question. A castor said he did well on social media, but will not be turned into a full series. He explained, it was three hours of filming and I’d say everything went wrong that could have gone wrong. At one point I said to the audience, I think what they should do is just take these three hours, cut them up in a six half hours in real time, and put it out as a series. He elaborated the pilot episode and went from having four members of the public and four panelists having twenty members of the public on stage behind me as well.

Several things went wrong, including wrestler breaking a sugar glass vase too soon, which led to retakes in the Need for First Daid that caused Phil Wang to laugh with quote tears streaming down his face and out of Austin The Adults comedy animated series Fellowship will be presented by Starburns Industries. You know Starburns. They have created things like Community and Rick and Morty. Starburns Industries will provide the screenplay fellowship winner, industry guidance and an inside look to Starburns Industry’s development process through a six month fellowship program. It’s also a five hundred dollars cash prize.

That’s an interesting number, right. I wonder if there’s some reason they have to do five hundred to five hundred dollars cash prize and up to five hundred dollars an airfare and up to five hundred dollars in lodging travel allowance to attend the twenty twenty five Austin Film Festival October twenty third through the thirtieth. Starburns Industries reps will read the category’s top scripts to determine the winner and provide feedback on the winning script. Pretty cool. That is your comedy news for today.

If you enjoy the program, tell a friend about it. They might like it too. It’s been busy lately, which is great for me. You know, it’s always good to bounce stuff from the script. Then they have to go, all right, let me google Nikki Glanzer, Bill Burndichappell.

It’s much easier to do it this way, so I’m having fun. See Tomorrow.

Caloroga Shark Media. Hello, I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. My hat is off to whoever handles the press for the Top Secret Comedy Club in the UK. They got worldwide pickup on this one, the headline from The Guardian. One of the UK’s leading comedy clubs has banned guests with botox.

Yeah, this made worldwide news. Good job. The Top Secret Comedy Club has hosted some of the biggest names in comedy, with star acts Jack Whitehall, Amy Schumer and Dave Chappelle gracing the stage. In a drastic move, those with botox will be unable to see similar stars live at the London venues. After stand up, acts shared concerns that audience members with frozen faces are not reacting to their jokes.

Is this a real thing? Comedians? I might have to reach out to some comedians and ask them, is this a real thing that the people have so much botox that they’re not laughing at your jokes and it’s affecting your performance? You see? As The Guardian explains, botox is a neuromodulator, which is a type of injectable that temporarily disrupts the nerve signals to the muscles that prevents them from contracting and producing the appearance of wrinkles.

The Guardian further explains the rising tweakments, particularly among twenty somethings, has risen sharply in recent years. Will then estimated one million botox injections carried out in the UK each year. Mark Rothman, the owner of the Top Secret Comedy Club who has just an amazing pr team kudos to you guys, explained, our incredibly salented comedians are fed up with performing to reactionless faces. I’ve had numerous complaints from performers who find it increasingly challenging to gauge audience engagement and bounce off their reactions. Comedy thrives on connections, and facial expressions play a huge part.

We want people to laugh, cry, frown sneer, but frozen faces from botox impact the entire atmosphere. We hope try laying this band will help move the needle and get fit reactions back into the room for the benefit our comedians and the audience. I had to check to make sure it wasn’t the beginning of April. Nope, this came out in March. One of the venues.

Regular stand up acts is Andrew Mensa, and he said performing to an audience with frozen faces can be incredibly tough. Comedy is a two way street. We feed off the energy and reactions to the crowd. Mark and the team are always devising new ideas to support as comedians. This might be his best one yet.

Paul Chowdrey, who’s going to perform at the club in March, says, my face barely moves on stage. I wouldn’t want to see the same thing staring back at me so effective. Immediately, audience members will be vetted by the door staff, and now the door staff has been trained to carry out ID checks and expression texts. Rothmun warned, we’re dead serious about the band and if you’re surprised, we need to see that. We’re looking forward to welcoming faces all the new that can still move in our venue soon.

Well done, pr team. This next item, I didn’t react well too, and then I thought about it and I calmed the heck down. My initial take was all good things get ruined, and then I thought about it more. Let me tell you what it is, John Mulaney’s talk show, which is back on Netflix on Wednesday is now going to include commercial breaks for all Netflix subscribers, whether you’re subscribed to one of the platforms, AD supported, tears or not. Following the live stream, the ad breaks will be removed for AD free subscribers.

So this is even more of an incentive for me to not stay up late on Wednesday night and just watch it Thursday. The show premieres this Wednesday at ten pm Eastern seven West. But I thought about this commercials annoying, et cetera. However, I’ve produced a lot of talk radio in my day, and I remember when I was at Sirius and we were commercial free music. The talk stations had commercials.

And among the reasons you have commercials on a talk show, sure, money’s great, we like money. I like commercials. I have commercials in this show. So I’m not going to be hypocrite on that standpoint. But you do you when doing a talk show, it is convenient to have time outs so you can connect with the host, or regroup or stop talking for a second, like right now.

Honestly, this is the third straight podcast that I’m recording, and my voice is already starting to go. But I’m not live, so I have the luxury. I can go get vitamin water or something, or take a break or finish this up an hour from now. So when you’re live, you know, there’s that maybe a segment go sideways, maybe the producer wants to get in your ear. So having breaks does make sense totally to me from that standpoint.

So I get it, and they’re taking them out of the replace, so you know, it’s not a ton of money grab so I don’t think I have a problem with this. So you know the other things you could do is you could throw it to some pre recorded thing. I’ll just point you towards. You know, on John Oliver Show, the opening segment always crushes and then they do the and now segment for like a minute in the two hole, ten years, in fourteen years, in whatever we’re in with that show. I’ve yet to see one of those segments really fly.

So could they pretape some stuff to John the timeout? They could. If you’ve ever listened to a streaming radio station that fills their commercial breaks with features, those are always lame, you know. Sometimes a professional broadcast where it just throws it to a Budweiser commercial, sometimes that actually is the best thing. So I don’t really have a problem with this one.

I’m excited. Mark Maren has announced a new stand up comedy special and to be on HBO later this year. Variety says it will consist of material from his All Into where it’ll be filmed in New York City in May. It’ll be Maren’s sixth stand up special, two years after his latest for HBO, which was From Bleak to Dark, in which Maren discussed the death of his partner Lynn Shelton. No release date, no trailer yet, but looking forward to that.

Chronogram spoke to Patton Oswalt Paton explain where he is right now in terms of working politics into the act. He says, I try to do my version of punching up, which is by focusing on Elon Trump, Bezos, whoever’s letting this crap happen. I’ve kind of cranked up the absurdity. Things are so dark, it’s such an enormous thing to expect a comedian to address. But it’s certainly not the whole set.

Our current situation is massive, but I also think there are things that they’re even bigger there aren’t being addressed, like the environment and AI. I’m obviously being affected by what’s going on. But I also sometimes feel like the MC and Cabaret who’s saying, what the hell am I supposed to be doing here? Elon is putting us through all this because he wants to be cool, and he’s not cool. He’s like the kid whose dad owns the laser tag place and thinks all the kids should like him, but he’s obnoxious and means so no one wants to hang out with him.

A few years ago, Patten got into a Twitter feud with a follower, which Patent resolved by contributing to the man’s go fundme. Paige Patten explains, you could see how miserablely was. You’re seeing similar things now with a lot of these Trump voters online going wait, my job is gone, or oh he took away my medicaid. They want someone else to be punished for their pain. They don’t realize that the people they’re voting for don’t care about them.

So a lot of times when you see someone being racist or transphobic, it’s because they’re in a lot of pain they can’t articulate it. That’d rather take power over growth. Growth involves pain, just siding with the most popular and the most powerful saves you a lot of pain, and they’re looking to avoid that. And I don’t blame them. Everybody wants to avoid pain.

No one’s looking out for them. Trump voters are especially being exploited, abused, and used by the powers that be. Donald and Elon could care less about their supporters. They openly despise them, says Paton. And it’s become very clear quickly that none of these billionaires give a hoot about these people.

So of course they’re going to lash out. Why wouldn’t you, I would I get it? Send your letters to Paton. Oswalt from short Oal comedian Harreeth a Scander has been fine the equivalent of seventeen hundred and fifty British pounds after making a punt about the word ham was deemed to have mocked Islam. The Facebook post was pulled by Meta at the request of Malaysia’s Communications watchdog.

That watchdog also demanded that the account be shut down completely. The comedian had posted a joke on social media about an iced coffee drink called ham something ham sapping the Cantonese word for leude, as well as containing the name of a port product forbidden to Muslims. Harriest wrote, I’m so confused. My faith is at risk. This iced coffee drink will lead me down the wrong path in so many ways, not just tempting to me to become whatever the offensive term is here.

I’m not here to offend, but I’ll confusing me with the word ham in. It is Candor and a woman named Cecilia who made the same joke online where each find ten thousand Malaysian ringots, which is the equivalent of six weeks average salary in Malaysia is Candor was named the funniest person in the World in an international competition run by The Laugh Factory in America back in twenty sixteen. He released a Netflix comedy special called I Told You So in twenty eighteen and regularly tours Asia and Australia. Very interesting. Let’s see what’s happening at south By Southwest today, final day of comedy over there at four o’clock the street meet a comedic celebration of food trucks, grease pits and sandwich shops.

This is Joe Deorosi’s thing. I think this is so much fun. He’ll be joined by Jeames Adiomian. I’ll tell you one thing south by the talent that they flew down there. They’re getting a lot of work out of them.

It’s the same people doing the same shows over and over. But it’s like, hey, you can come, but you’re doing six shows. Stuart Goldsmith tapes his Comedians Comedian podcast again, this time with Pete Lee. Feel like Stuart could have gotten better guests. They were a better guests.

Nothing against Pete Lee, but your names to be gotten down there. Doug Love’s Movies, they’re taping their podcast six Stand Up at Clown Live Comedy at the Creek in the Cave at seven. So weird to be The Creek of the Cave is like the Brooklyn Dodgers of comedy, like they used to be at Astoria now they’re in Austin Stand Up and Clown. James Adomian, Yeah, we’re flying you down. You’re doing every show, James, Chad Damiani, Megan Galli, Christina Catherine Martinez, Mary Neely, Opi Alagbaju, Nick Fune.

You’ve heard me saying the same names over and over. Yeah, you can come, but you’re gonna work eight o’clock. Pretty robust for a Monday night at a Comedy Festival. I said that about Sunday, but Mondays are usually deader than dead. Gotham Comedy presents Slynn Coppletz, Caitlin Polufo, Brian Simpson.

No offense of those comedians. I feel like it’s missing a bigger name there. Especially Gotham is a real good club and I know the owner. Something’s missing there that just doesn’t feel right to me. Nine o’clock stand up Downtown.

It’s got that AI I think generated image of what a comedy audience might look like. Greer Born seeing a lot of him all of a sudden, Drew Dunn, Alex English, Rich Voss, and our final show for the festival is called appropriately the Last Laugh.

Also within probably possibly maybe perhaps AI generated image of what a most…

This lineup, Reggie Conquest. I don’t think I’ve said his name right, all right, Reggie got in there at the last moment. Pete Lee, Kristin, Toomey and Godfrey. That is the south By Southwest Comedy Festival. Now we doing on time, all right?

We can get one more in here today. The Trevor’s City Comedy festival announced their twenty twenty five lineup with top comedians and diverse events. They Traverse City Comedy Festival will feature dozens of comedians from across the country and events from improv and roast battles to all star showcases and stand up sets April tenth through the twelfth, in of course, Traverse City. Pretty good lineup. You’ve heard of these people.

I don’t have to explain who Mark Maron is or Jay Farrow, Natasha Lazeiro, Gosh Blue. That’s a pretty impressive top four there, Traverse City. Other shows include The Funny Women of a Certain Age Julius Scotti, Leanne Lord. They’re not the funny Women of a Certain age, they are their own things. So Funny Women of a Certain Age full stop.

Also performing Julia Scotti, Leanne Lord in I’m just skimming down here a good thirty forty names. N most of you won’t know any of them, so I’m not gonna just read you a list of people you don’t know. I’m not dumping on them. I’m just saying they’re less famous than Mark Maron. And if you listen all the time, you know that.

I encourage listeners. If you go to Comedy Festival. Go see the smaller shows. I love Mark Maren you know what he’s gonna do. You can watch Mark Maron on HBO later this year.

Go see the smaller shows. That’s where the action is at the Comedy Festival. Events at the festival will include the Daily Dozen Showcase, featuring a dozen comedians on stage telling their best and funniest jokes. Well I hope they’re their best and funniest jokes at a showcase. Roast Battle, a single elimination ross battle tournament featuring eight fearless comedians with judges in the audience determining the winners.

Comedy Rubble a lineup of thirty hilarious comedians, each given a lightning fast ninety seconds to showcase their comedic talents. So that’s interesting because there’s a big difference between doing ninety seconds and a tight five or an eight, or a ten or an hour ninety seconds. Again, just listen to Kill Tony. There’s plenty of people can kill for a minute? Can you kill for an hour?

But okay, that’s fun, And now that I say that out loud, that’s probably the inspiration for Comedy Rubble. How about big fun Murder the improv Murder Mystery, in which six improvisers act out a completely improvised murder mystery. It’s never the same show twice. There’s the Clean Comedy Showcase. If that’s your thing.

If that’s not your thing, go see the Dirty Comedy Showcase. Love it. There’s also something called the Traverse City Kamakazi Comedy Show that has me a little bit scared, so I’m gonna get out here. That is your comedy news for today. See tomorrow.

Caloroga Shark Media very busy for a Sunday. Hello, I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. Let’s follow yesterday’s lead and try and keep everything light and silly. Christina Pe. Christina Pozitski has added her voice to those who did not enjoy Megan Markle’s new Netflix series With Love Meghan.

Before we get to Christina Pe, I’ll give you my take. I was watching it with my wife and I said, I think this is kaufman Esque level comedy. There’s no way Meghan Markle is serious about this thing. This has to be a put on. She can’t possibly be serious about the bees and making candles.

I think it’s an Andy Kaufman level bit, making Megan Markle the greatest comedian of our generation. So I plot her for that. If you want to hear just entertaining savage reviews of the Megan Markle series, check out our sister podcast, Palace Intrigue, where we talk about the royals. I’m the writer on it. I’ve been assembling this stuff.

When I say the reviews are unkind, that’s an understatement anyway. Christina p said she’s an actress playing the part of a human being right now, and it’s not working. Christina shared this with her one million followers on TikTok and said, I don’t know what the bleep of this show is. The problem from minute one is that she’s trying to be perfect all the time and it reads as phony, as inauthentic and not fun. Megan, you just need to be an actress.

Just go act You’re great in suits, but when it comes to being a household branded name, you better be that thing through and through, otherwise people know that you’re being fake and inauthentic. She’s like, I don’t even like honey, but now I appreciate it because I see how hard it is to get.

And then she makes beeswax candles out of real beeswax.

But she’s like, I’ve never done this before. Yeah, you’ve never done this before, And I can tell. We can all tell. Savage Love at Ballas Intrigue, where you get your shows, Matt Rife is playing two nights at Madison Square Garden this summer. Matt says it’s so unbelievable.

It’s about as big as a comedian can get. Realistically, I think there’ve only been about four comedians who’ve done stadiums above arenas, even if it’s not MSG. I mean, the Toyota Center is a dream, but it gets to Madison Square Garden above that it does seem like all the bucket list items are checked off at that point. It’s the most famous venue on the planet stadium wise. Bill Burr has definitely played Fenway Gable, Glacias has definitely played Dodger Stadium.

Larry the Cable Guy has played a football stadium in Nebraska. I’m sure I’m forgetting others, and you can remind me in the Facebook group Daily Comedy News podcast group. Rife says it’s actually not the first time he’s played MSG. I opened for Dave Chappelle on his fiftieth birthday and I got a taste of it. I was like, Wow, this would be unbelievable to do on my own someday.

Here we are, two years later, actually making it happen. I’m stoked. New York City has always been good to me. A mecca of stand up. Riife talked about arenas versus smaller theaters and said I can do the same kind of show in a three hundred person comedy club as I do in a twenty thousand seat arena all time out there.

I would think the likes of Jim Gaffigan would disagree on that, And I remember quoting Jim on something like that maybe two weeks ago, and Jerry might disagree. I’m not a performer. I don’t know. Riife said, that’s kind of what I pride myself on, being able to take the same kind of performance, same type of show, and same energy that’s relatively intimate to such a big room. Yes, there’s fifteen thousand plus people there, but it just feels like we’re hanging out at one party.

Some comedians can sometimes step out of their comfort zone, but me, just people there. The energy in an arena is miraculous. Man. I don’t know how it’s to describe it. It’s incompet it’s to be the same adrenaline rush is when someone catches a game winning touchdown.

It’s so much fun and you could feel everybody having fun. It’s like getting hit with a blast of positivity, which I imagine is the same description an adult film star would give. Rife welcomes newcomers, and he was asked what they can expect. I guess it would be context and more context. Comedians never want to give away too much online.

That’s why I post so much crowd work, because there’s such unique instances that are never going to be duplicated. That’s what unique is. Yes, I’m a language snob when it comes to unique, I highly doubt I’m ever going to see that person again. I’m never going to be in the same circumstance and the same venue again and never hear the same story. So it’s almost like a little this is kind of what’s happening at the show.

If you come to the show, you’re gonna get an hour of material, you’re gonna get interactive experience as well. I’m most likely gonna talk to somebody and have a fun interaction there and again, going back to the energy, Yes, we’re all entertained sitting and staring at our phone all day thinking haha, that’s funny. But to actually sit there and experience and be part of it, it’s physical experience as much as mental and emotional. For anyone who has never been to a comedy show before, it’s the same as going to music concert. No, it’s not.

You gotta hear your favorite musician live. We’ll keep an eye on this one. Kevin Hornt’s Bridgeport show was canceled for an unknown reason. Kevin Hart was supposed to play the Total Mortgage Arena in downtown Bridgeport on March twelfth. Ticketmaster said the event organizer has had to cancel.

Kevin Hart never afraid to take a gig. He likes to work. He’s got a new animated series because of course he does. This one is called Lil keV. Not the most original idea here at Kevin.

I feel like Chris Rack has done this before. The series is set in nineteen ninety three in North Philadelphia and follows twelve year old Kevin Hart, who’s wilder man and unshakable optimism constantly collide with his neighborhood’s harsh realities. Kevin Hart stars as Kevin Hart. Wanda Sykes stars as Kevin Hart’s hardworking mother Nancy, alongside Dian Cole, who stars as Uncle Richard Junior, Nancy’s formerly incarcerated younger brother. The show blend’s comedy and satsire while tackling real life issues.

Lil keV is the first original animated series for b et plus, and if you visit beet dot plus at a big long url, you can watch episode one. Here’s the story I bumped yesterday because it was political and we weren’t doing that yesterday. Lewis Black spoke to Dailycommercial dot Com. Lewis is not happy with this whole do g Elon Musk thing. Lewis has only twenty percent of our workforce in the federal government comes from Washington, d C.

And I’ve said for a long long time that I worked for the federal government for the Appalachian Regional Commission. My father worked for the federal government as an engineer. He went to work, he did his work, He built c minds, and he helped make defensive weapons. Right says his father didn’t sit around going gee, I wonder he did his full day’s work. Jobs are important to people, gives their lives.

Meeting at about ninety five percent of the people who work for the Feds. It’s what they do and they love what they’re doing. But they’re being treated as if they did something wrong. And DOGE has no proof except for the fact that they think they need to cut them out. Don’t act like because you work in the private sector, holier than now.

And this is where normally there’s a print interview. I’d get into a lot of profanities. Lewis said, the job cuts don’t make sense. You know we’re lowering the taxes for rich people. I mean, this isn’t brain surgery.

There is a comedic musical artist out of the UK. I’m not sure how they pronounce the name of their band pay attention here. I think is pronounced kont in the Gang ku n and another letter I always pronounced kunt in. The Gang have released a new song about the ailing Pope. It is called Is the Pope Gonna Croak?

And I’m recording this on Friday afternoon. Hopefully the Pope has not passed away between me recording this and the sentence personally, I hope all people live a long life, and I will mention for the second time in three days I’m of the Catholic fate anyway. Is the Pope Gonna Croak underlines the fact that the Pontiff is not made of magic and someday, like all of us, he will pass away. And like I said, hopefully not between Friday and meeting recording this. Let’s see what’s happening at south By Southwest on a Sunday four o’clock improv for Humans with the best improvisers in the universe.

All right, who were the best improvisers in the universe? They are, apparently James Adomian Anthony Tamnwick. Those are two good choices. Matt Besser, great choice, Lisa Gilroy, great choice. Yeah, anybody else, you know, if we want to challenge their premise that these are the best improvisers in the universe.

So there are other good improvisers. Wayne Brady always seem pretty good to me at it. Who else would you add? Facebook group, Daily Comedy News podcast Group. Five o’clock The Comedians Comedian is recording an episode with Scott Ackerman.

At six o’clock, The Stand presents WITS Live at south By. WITS is this new comedy network that got a lot of press earlier in the week. Kudos to their pr people. They announced some podcasts and just every media outlet picked it up. Personally, I think the reaction was oversized to what was actually announced, but that’s neither hearing her there.

Congratulations to them. They’ve got a Sunday night slot at south By, and on this show, Joe DeRosa, Sam Jay Ian Lara and TJ. Miller.

Also at seven o’clock, The don’t Tell Comedy All Stars.

Now, I had this question. Normally, don’t tell comedy doesn’t tell us where the show is, that’s what it is. But this one is at the creak of the cave at seven o’clock and I even know who’s performing. It’s Greerborn’s, Drew Dunn, Megan gilly Opi Olagbaju, and Laura Peak. Now, guys, that’s not what don’t tell comedy is.

This is the opposite of don’t tell comedy. This is tell comedy, which is a hack joke, but it is the proper joke to make in this circumstance, despite it being hack. Eight o’clock Bonnie McFarlane, None of This is Real, says parentheses stand up comedy special. What does that mean? Let me click on it.

Join award winning comedian and writer Bonnie McFarlane for an exclusive live taping of her new comedy special None of This Is Real. On the bill, Rich Voss, Drew Dunn, and on a McFarlane. Pretty busy for Sunday Night. A lot of times Sundays are Debta Comedy festivals, Allegian Knight’s at X at nine o’clock. Chad Dommiani Christina, Catherine Martinez, A porn A Naturla, Natalie Palaminez, Nick Fune, Melissa Via Signor.

I like that line up a lot. I would go to that. The description spend the night with comics and clowns. We love as we bring the Allegians eponymous variety show on the Road Legion Night’s launched late in twenty four at the opening of The Allegian’s new room, The Vault, at ten o’clock a live comedy event called Would You Bang Him? Rich Voss and Barney McFarlane.

Reggie Conquest, Drew Dunn, Punky Johnson, Jay jorden Ian, Lara vonn Ay, McFarlane, Caitlin Plufo boy, She’s every roll of a sudden, Rich Voss, Maddy Wiener. That sounds like fun.
