The Shark Deck. I’m Johnny Mack with your Daily Comedy News. You probably saw John Maliney in the episode title. I will do that story at the end, so I don’t spoil a heck out of that episode. So Pete Davidson he gets a new season for Bupkiss.
One of the suits over at Peacock said Pete Davidson is a once in a generation talent. What he created with the first season of Books absolutely blew us away. Pete has the rare ability to make you laugh out loud with this unfiltered brand of comedy and then tear up with his raw and honest vulnerability. We could not be more proud to continue on this journey with Pete. I’m going to say another name here, and this is a super important name, Lauren Michaels, Broadway Video and our partners at Universal.
Yeah. Basically, if Lauren Michaels were to support this podcast, I’d be on NBC A different suit, said Pete. Lauren and the entire Books team took audiences on a wild and emotionally captivating adventure in season one, from family weddings to drug fueled road trips, etc. Etc. I haven’t really heard anybody who has seen Daniel Feinberg, who writes for The Hollywood Reporter, who I like a lot.
He said, Episode one is terrible and the rest is good. I just haven’t gotten to it yet, but I will. I actually grabbed Peacock. They had one of those deals that was like, I don’t know, I’m exaggerating slightly, but fifty cents for like two years. And I was like, all right, there’s been a lot of talk in the news about Harry and Megan.
You may have heard that Prince Harry and Megan Marko’s spotifying deal ended. Now, aside from me being the writer on a podcast called a Palace Intrigue where we talk about the British royal family every day, why am I bringing this up? So Harry was supposed to do a podcast that he never did. One of the ideas that was considered would have been co hosting a show with Hasan Minhaj. That would have been interesting.
One of the ideas would have been Harry commenting as someone new to living in America. All right, I might have listened to that. The Mantra All Comedy Festival about three weeks away.
Now, let’s take a look at some of the in conversation panels we’ll be having …
In Conversation with romy Yusef. That’s on Saturday, July twenty ninth. Romy in a special will discuss the polarizing, unifying, and contradictory intersections of religion and comedy.
Also on that day, in conversation with Please Don’t Destroy.
You know those guys from Saturday Night Live. They were the best part of SNL this season. They Please Don’t Destroy Trio. Who are Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Hurley. He we should start learning their names.
A bunch of podcasts will be up there, including Jean Marcos Serresi. He was one of the new Faces last year. He was fantastic. Judy Gold’s doing her podcast on Thursday, the twenty seventh. Langston Kerman has won.
He’ll be there on the twenty eighth, Steph Toleev also on the twenty eighth, and Philippe Esparza on the twenty eighth. New Faces will have a bunch of shows much like last year, starting Wednesday, July twenty sixth, going through Friday the twenty eighth. Again, it is killing me that I can’t make it up there this year. If you’re making the trip, I highly recommend do this. This is exactly what I would have done.
And as I mentioned yesterday, I decline my credentials, but if my schedule gets clear, I might, I might, I maybe see I don’t know because I gotta be somewhere else. On the next day, Wednesday at twenty six, New Faces Group one at seven o’clock, New Faces Group two, nine thirty, do those back to back to both shows. You’ll see twenty comedians and you will see the future of comedy. That’s always a great one to do. The next night is New Faces of Comedy Creators.
Tends to me more of like the YouTube TikTok kind of stuff that’s at one in the afternoon. So that alone tells you what chespra Laps thinks of it. If they buried it at one o’clock, seven o’clock New Faces of Comedy Characters, so there are people doing characters, and you know sometimes lets will wind up on Saturday Night Live and Thursday at nine thirty New Faces of Comedy unrepped. That’s a good invitation and if you crush there, you’ll probably walk out with an agent. New Faces of Comedy International on Friday at seven and New Faces of Comedy Friday at nine thirty.
I would love to do those as well, but I cannot this year. Hi Times, your home for comedy news, caught up with Nimish pat Till. He has a special called I Lost My Right Nut and all I got was this stupid special. You’ll find that on YouTube, and it’s about Pittel’s experience being diagnosed with and treated for testicular cancer. High Time said, it strangely made me feel better when you just casually acknowledge we’re all going to die.
Nimes said, yeah, sorry for that bleak outlook. I think when I talk to people who have had actual cancer, and then he laughed, I think they get a little annoyed when it’s treated so casually, but people who have not experienced it or kind of relieved that there’s someone who could talk about it without the woe was meatitude. I’m not saying all cancer patients are like that. I think many people have a better version of my attitude. They’re just not comedians.
I started talking about the fact that my genitals were shaved while I was awake, and that was the funniest part of the whole thing outside of the grand irony. Once the unbelievable thing was out and people were laughing at it, it was easy to realize it was the climax of the set. As long as I happily built towards it, it would be a fun roller coaster ride for everybody.
And now I never have to talk about it outside the stage.
I mentioned at one point the set that the biggest fear that people have survived cancer went through cancer had is social isolation. It’s one of those studies that I read. People who aren’t comedians don’t have the outlets go on stage and talk about it as freely as I do. So they talk about it at places like Chipole with their friends, and that could be burdensome. Luckily for me, I don’t have to bring it up over quacamole.
I could just say it on stage, and when we’re out watching the Knicks, we could talk about how crappy the Knicks are instead of how crappy it is that one of my testicles is gone. It kind of leaves things compartmentalized, which is great. Rob mclenny from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Welcome to Wrexham he and his buddy Ryan Reynolds. Now they’re getting the F one. They’re buying a twenty four percent steak in the Alpine Formula one race team.
One of the other owners part of this thing is Michael B. Jordan. These famous people are paying the Renault group about two hundred million euros for the steak, valuing the racing team at roughly nine hundred million dollars. And at the top I mentioned John Mulaney. Here is the story.
I’m going to spoil the heck out of One of the episodes of FX is The Bear. John Mulaney appears in an episode. I haven’t ruined the episode for you, but John Mulaney appears in it. If you have not seen the episode yet, I recommend you bounce here and definitely watched the episode. It’s the best episode of the season.
But I’ll tell you all about that, okay. His spoilers coming up in three two one. Season two episode six is called Fishes, centering around a Christmas holiday roughly five years before the planned opening of Karmy’s new restaurant, The Bear. He joins his family, which includes his mother Donna, who I didn’t recognize until I looked up Donna again spoilers. Played by Jamie Lee Curtis.
I didn’t even recognize her. John Burnthal plays Michael. That’s Karmy’s brother. The family’s together for the Feast of the Seven Fishes, an Italian holiday tradition in which seven fish dissues are prepared and served. We meet Uncle Lee played by Bob Odenkirk, and then we meet Steve, who’s a close friend of the family, and he’s played by John Mulaney.
Mullaney playing like a nerdy version of himself. Picture if cousin Gregg on succession, We’re played by John Mulaney. That’s what Mulaney’s doing here, with big nerdy like Drew Carrey glasses. Malini gets to give a pretty good speech near the end of the episode, and he’s good in the role. I hope we see more of Stevie.
I thought he was a cousin when I watched it, but he’s just some guy they have over. Okay, that is your comedy news for today. Follow the show for free on Apple Podcasts or Spotify YouTube, wherever you get your shows. See tomorrow. All right, enough with the negativity.
