The Shark Deck. Hello Johnny Mack with your Daily Comedy News. Big Jay Okerson releases his comedy album dog Belly today. That’s cool, Heather McMahon. We’ll have a special on Netflix October seventeenth.
It’s called Son I never had. Let’s listen to a piece from the trailer. I want to paint a picture of what baby Heather looked like. Okay, I’d always wear my dad hand me down golf shirts, just like tucked into the front. I’d wear a sensible bel CROs sandal in case they’d like take off after my mom at Costco.
I really solidified the look when I went to Great Clips one summer and I saw my stylish Trish and I just go, Trish. I want to get out the buzzers and hit the nape of my neck. I want to feel that sweet Georgia heat just running down my spine. Shot in Lexington, Kentucky, at the historic Lexington Opera House, McMahon tackle’s body image, drug, sex, fertility, grief, and she also let’s loose on female beauty standards, messing up her own IVF and wellness retreats. In this hilarious one hour special, Heather McMahon son, I never had October seventeenth on Netflix.
If you were heading to Las Vegas to see Strike Force three on Saturday, don’t the Strike Force three live event announced by Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fown and Stephen Colbert has been canceled. Why Jimmy Kimmel has tested positive for COVID. Kimmel, on a statement said, well, Las Vegas, I got COVID and sadly, we need to cancel this weekend’s Strike Force three show. I could never live with myself if I got my hometown friends sick. Thanks to all the purchase tickets, everyone will get full refunds and we’ll try to reschedule if possible.
Seems everything around Russell Brand is collapsing. He had a podcast, and podcast News Daily says Luminaries contract with Russell Brand to produce new content. It ended more than a year ago, and we will no longer promote any of his older content. Any recent episodes were simply reposts or promoting old content, podcast news Daily points out. Luminary did, however, announce earlier this month that Under the Skin would be one of the first six podcast that would be featured as part of its new alliance with a Cast.
A Cast would serve as Luminaries exclusive monetization partner. An A Cast rap says A Cast immediately turned off ads on Russell Brand’s podcast following news of the recent allegations against him. Katherine Ryan did a comedy show and she avoided the quote elephant in the room, joking that the elephant in the room was that she had lost two stones in the past two months. And she did a set covering her sex, life, kids and ancestry. Katherine Ryan had previously had some comments about unnamed comedian, now believed to be Russell Brand.
ABC made delay Dancing with the Stars Why. Matt Walsh said in a statement that he will pause his involvement with the show until an agreement is made with the Writers Guild of America. Matt said, I was excited to join the show and did sell under the impression that it was not a WGA show and fell under a different agreement. This morning, when I was informed by my union, the WGA that it is considered struck work, I walked out of my rehearsal. I have been and will always stand with my union members of the WGA, SAG and DGA beyond our union artists.
I’m sensitive to the many people impacted by the strike, and I hope for a speedy and fair resolution and to one day work again with all the wonderful people I met at DWTS who tolerated my dancing. Quick stop on gossip Corner from fourteenews dot com, Bert Kreisher was seen shopping in Evansville just hours before doing his big show at the Ford Center. We’re told Bert Kreisher was downtown and made a stop at the River City Coffee plus Goods. According to their social media page, Burt bought some merch and left with a drink. He was then spotted at Goldman’s pawn Shop on Fourth Street.
That’s weird. PBS interviewed otsko ad Kaska and asked why it took so long for her career to kick in. I think people are afraid of things not working. People are afraid of things they’re not used to seeing. The audience has been asked for, and that’s what I mean by like social media and stand up comedians post their own clips online.
They gain their own followers and go on tour and the audience is there and they prove like look people do want to see this, and then the industry usually listens to, yes, that is funny. How that works. Michelle Wolf talked to Rolling Stone about doing her special in three ports. In case you missed it, I mentioned yesterday Michelle Wolf’s special fifth Best of the Year is how I have it so far. I liked it a lot.
It’s like fifth Best is not a dig I like the ones at the top of the list a lot. Michelle said. I wanted to see if I could change up the way we’re consuming these specials based off are decreased attention span. I think there’s a great place for an hour long special, and there are a lot of great hour long specials, but I also think there are a lot of hour long collections of jokes. This is more a collection of jokes rather than something that felt like a special.
I thought, there are fifteen minutes that work really well together, so I really need to find a segue to get into the next chunk that works well together. Or could I just break it up and then if they like it, they’ll watch another one That was exactly what I did. Michelle said. I originally made eight episodes that varied in length. I think the longest was twenty three minutes, the shortest was nine, and most are around fifteen.
Even though I didn’t end up selling those as eight episodes, I stand by what I was trying to do, and I hope they see that this is a way that comedy can be consumed and they say, in six months, I have another three episode that I could just grow up there, rather than waiting another year or two to get a full special, I can be like, you know, I have a really interesting twenty minute set and a really interesting seven minute set, and let’s add two more episodes to this. It would also give us an opportunity to be a little more timelier with it. I think everything she said there makes a ton of sense. Michelle said, I think this special is a bit more personal than my last ones, and I think I kind of mistakenly get put in the political comedian barrel. I’m not Bill Moore, and I’m not doing jokes about a Sandal shorter.
I do talk about things that I observe as being things that are affecting society right now. But I think I mistakenly got put in the political comedian category as someone who’s going to do a bunch of Trump jokes. I worked on the Daily Show, so that put me in the corner, and of course people associate me with the White House Correspondence Dinner. But I’ve always felt my stand up has been separate from that. Washington Post profiled a partner an Unschulish, she’s got her new book out, and they were like, you know, you can pay real money for an Anxiety Queen T shirt, And a partner said, it’s a bit surreal.
I think once any topic gets commodified or swallowed up by the market, it does kind of distort the meeting of it. In Unreliable Narrator, she grapples with these contradictions, says, maybe being a spokespushan for anything apparently makes you question your relationship to it. Perhaps I should have lawyered up early on and negotiated a more contractual relationship the only partial custody of my brain from Inside Radio. Joe Rogan may have one of podcastings biggest shows. I believe it’s the biggest, but he’s one of the medium’s more polarizing figures.
That is especially true among eighteen to thirty four year olds. Women were asked if they say listening to Joe Rogan as a red flag to a potential relationship. Fifty five percent said yes. The survey said more than a third of men thirty five percent, also see a red flag if their potential significant other is a Joe Rogan listener. Yeah, okay, I don’t know.
Maybe it’s just me. I’m able to listen to a conversation about comedy with say Jim Gaffigan, and I don’t know, my wife still likes me. Who knows, Maybe we’re weird. On the flip side, more men see as a plus if their potential partner listens to Joe Rogan. A quarter of eighteen to thirty four year old men say it’s a green flag if their potential partner listens to Rogan’s podcasts.
So if you’re out there in single and you see a cute guy, you might be like, hey, Joe Rogan experience, huh might get you date? Who knows. Tom Webster said, this is a show that is very easy for a lot of people to hate because it’s very good at excluding people, which means it’s kind of a velvet rope experience for the people that it appeals to. Okay, Ryan Reynolds will receive bring change to minds Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award. It’s the eleventh annual Rebels and Revelations fundraiser.
Each year, the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award is given out at the fundraiser in honor of the late actor by his children. Previous recipients include Billy Crystal, will Be Goldberg, Ben Stiller, Dan and Eugene Levy, Melissa McCarthy, and now Ryan Reynolds. If you haven’t had a chance, you had to listen to Conan O’Brien’s interview on Kara Switcher’s podcast It Is Fun. And Kara was curious if Conan thought Late Night is on its last legs and will you ever go back to tv TV. Conan said, I grew up watching Johnny Carson, and there was one Lean Night host, and then there were two, and then there were three, and I think at a certain point the whole mechanism, the technology changed.
You know, there were so many people that used to watch me because they didn’t have much choice. It’s twelve thirty at night. They had to wake up and take a medication or baby’s crying, and they were like, no, let’s watch Conan. Now you have a choice between watching a late night host or anything that’s ever been shot or recorded in the history of mankind. You can watch the director’s cut of Lawrence of Arabia, you can watch any merchant Ivory movie.
You can watch all the Faulty Towers, I mean anything. So it’s much more difficult now. Bob Odenkirk talked about his time on Saturday Night Live. This from The Hollywood Reporter. They were listening to oden Kirk on Tignazarro’s podcast, and oden Kirk said, when he was at SNL, he was unsure of myself.
It was hard, It was existentially dangerous. I had feelings of I should erased myself. I was too young when I got hired at SNL. That was not a good thing. That could have gone wrong, that could have gone wrong.
It came disclose so many times and going so wrong. You gotta believe me. While at the show, he wrote for people like Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, and Tim Meadows. He liked Chris Farley. He said one time he played the dad in a met full sketch, and we did it seven times a week at Second City.
Every time I did. That was the most fun I had in show business. Roy Wood Junior told the Chicago Tribune what he would do if he were a commissioner of Major League Baseball. Roy Wood Junior said, to simple change. I like bat flips, I like k struts.
I like designs on sneakers, the cool bat paintings during the home run derby. That should be a normal thing. Blair wants to strat if a player wants a deer show announce of fun while playing the game, and then his voice trailed off because says, Suzuki stepped out of the batter’s box and he was apparently interested in the event. Or should we go to Washington, DC because Matt Rife he’s taping his new special there at Constitution Hall.
It is sold out, but maybe we know somebody at the door. You never know? Or should we go to Milwaukee because Hassan minhas you know, the guy that makes stuff up when he’s doing comedy That guy. Yeah, he’s starting a tour, which is great because now there’ll be a ton of interviews with him and he’ll be asked ten trillion times, Hey, people got mad that you made up some stuff in your comedy special, et cetera, et cetera, and he’ll have to answer it, and then I’ll have content for the podcast. And he starts in Milwaukee tonight, then Madison, Wisconsin tomorrow.
He’ll finish up December fifteenth the New York City’s Beacon Theater. Or should we go to Alexandria, Virginia and see Patton Oswalt? It’s the Effervescent Tour? Where should we wait? Until October eighteenth, when Patton will be celebrating twenty years since his debut comedy album two two two, Live and Uncut.
If you want to see Patton, he’s fantastic.
