The Shark Deck. I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. Let’s start a gossip corner because it’s fun. Cracked took a look at what comedians went to see. Taylor Swift apparently, Zach Braff and Donald Fazon there hanging out together fake doctor’s real friends.

I guess Mindy Kaling was there. Molly Shannon, Tiffany Hattish hanging out with Cameron Diaz and Zoe Zaldana. That’s a power group. Mike Myers also hit the show.

Meanwhile, Will Farrell has announced a second installment of Best Night of Y…

This is a benefit for Cancer for College. Nice lineup two, John Stewart, haus On, Minhas, Jocoy, Batty Harrison, Royal Wood, Junior, Roy Scovel, the SmartLess Guys. Some musicians including Mike McCready from Pearl, jam Jack Black and Fred Ormison would perform as supergroup Mike McCready and the casual acquaintances. Will did this back in twenty eighteen in ancient times before the pandemic. That show had Seinfeld, Gimmel, Conan, Sam b Michell, Wolf, Jared Carmichael, and camal Non Gianni Will set immediately upon completing our last show in twenty eighteen, I set out on a search of the cosmos.

The mission was to find the most incredible lineup of talent the world has ever seen. I think we can comfortably say mission accomplished. I’m gonna push back on that. If you watch the video of the Magrigal Mystery Tour where they’re singing all you need is love the Beatles plus the Rolling Stones, pretty good. I digress For those of you saying, but Will, We’ve seen you a lot over the last five years, since successful films on popular streaming platforms and wildly funny TV appearances, I’m here to tell you the cloning is real.

Shout out to Bill Farrell, you did a hell of a job in my absence. My clones and I are super proud to be supporting the charity Cancer for College. I think we can all get on board with hating cancer and the terrible things that come with it. For thirty years, this organization has been providing need based college scholarships, educational experiences in medical debt to cancer survivors. All the proceeds from the show will benefit the cause.

That’s a nice job by Will Ferrell. There Bert Kreischer put out a tweets reminding us to check out Bert Kreisher’s Fully Loaded at Sea cruise, which is a cool thing. I’ll tell you about in a second. But there’s a waiting list, so I’m not even sure why he promoted it. Anyway, if you want to get on the waiting list, Bert Kreisher is fully Loaded at Sea October twenty seventh through the thirty first Miami two, Great Steer of Key Nassa, Bahamas.

Your line up, Bert Kreisher, of course, Mark Norman to Russell Howard, Felipia Sparza, Jim Norton, Miss Patt, Big Jokerson, Chang Wang who I’m a big fan of, Sean Patton, Pete Lee, Bert Kreisher Cruise dot com if you want some information. Sounds like that’ll be a good time if you’re looking to rest, Probably not the right cruise for you. Eric Andre has a new podcast called Bombing with Eric Andre. I liked this the first time when it was called the Art of Bombing with Dan Blublitz Junior. But anyway, Eric Andre’s version.

On his show, he hangs out fellow comedians and friends to talk about their worse moments in all sorts of ways on stage and public bombing in life, and many more northerly stories that may or may not involve audience members throwing a punch. Again, I liked it when it was called The Art of Bombing with and Bulbog Junior. Episode one of Eric Andre’s show has guest at Michelle but so they talk about their early stand up days, not knowing how to handle urine presumably thrown at them, an audience turning on you in Jamaica, and day drinking with Dutch friends. Adam Divine walked back his comments. You may recall his comments were, I feel like superhero movies ruined comedies because you go to theater and you expect to watch something that cost two hundred million dollars to make.

Comedy movies, aren’t that? So you’re like, why would I spend the same amount of money to go watch a little comedy in the theater If I can spend that and go see something and it’s worth two hundred million dollars, I almost almost almost slipped into half ass angry Jerry Seinfeld there anyway, people must given Divine the business because he tweeted as a guy who loves movies and TV. It’s cool to be in variety, but this is misleading. I like Marvel and I think these movies are cool. I’m guessing mister Divine’s agent called him and told him to walk that back.

Total guess by me. No, I feel like busting in half ass angry Jerry Seinfeld. See if I can find an excuse. On today’s Pond, rosebud Baker is recording her special today at the Village Underground in New York City. Chris Tucker going out on tour.

It’s called the Legends Tour, thirty dates kicking off September eighth, and Charleston Sucker said, I started my career doing stand up in comedy clubs, and it’s stand up comedy that prepared me for all my movie roles. And if he said the rest of his quote as a half ass angry Jerry Seinfeld impression, it would sound something like this. I’m looking forward to getting back to my roots. I love before we live. It’s nothing like the energy of a live crowd, make people laugh, excited to be out there and tour.

Hollywood Reporter it took a look at celebrity podcast and who’s allowed to do what Zach Braff and Donald Fazon, you know, fake Doctor’s real friends. Sometimes they see Taylor Swift together. They said, we’re not allowed to talk about scrubs. Now, I don’t know if they said that both at the same time or how that works, but that’s the quote, we are not allowed to talk about scrubs. Not sure who said it a sag after a spokesperson tells the Hollywood Reporter Rewatch, Recap and Companion shows are promotional.

They can drive viewers to struct companies platforms to watch Struck shows. Members who appear as guests in these podcasts are not permitted to promote Struck work under any circumstances unless they have a contract. See that’s not any circumstances if I throw an unless in there, unless they have a contract that predates the strike and pre existing contractual obligations that they must honor. Hosts who are members should also refrain from promoting Struck work. A talents publicist says it’s frustrating because there are only so many ways some of these actors can make money, and I seriously doubt that discussing an eighteen year old episode of a canceled show is doing anything for the studios.

They Always Sunny guys say they won’t release episodes of the Always Sunny podcast while the strike goes unresolved. Kind Of good for me because I liked that podcast, but I’m about one hundred episodes behind now fly reporter points out that’s going to get complicated because they have some live recordings on the calendar, including one sold out show at Radio City Music Hall. The Office Ladies have been putting out their show, but noting the recordings had taken place before the strike. I feel like what I do here? Go to buy me a coffee?

Dot com slash Daily Comedy News. There’s some money in the tip jar. I’ll take your money. I’ll go to the National Donuts chain. I will get a largeized coffee with caramel and milk, and I will thank you on the show, which reminds me Zach had enjoyed one of my social media posts, and Zach commented, Hey, I’ve been enjoying the podcast.

Also wanted to mention that a couple months ago, my show The Big Laugh came out on two B. It’s six comedians doing fifteen minute sets, a bunch of US comics rented out of Comedy club and put together a killer show. All right, everybody that’s called the Big Laugh on two b Zach, thanks for sharing that. I will try and catch up on it. I’m behind on my comedy.

I don’t want to bring the show down. So my mom’s been like really sick and it’s been really stressful, and then quite candidly gaffing in special deals with funerals, which is why I’m avoiding it. Enough said, move on, okay, been a stressful month. Garrett millerc is playing the Fringe Garrett Road on Yahoo. Hey, we’ve been trying to unpack why we all do the Edinburgh Festival, not just performers but audiences.

By the time you shouted out for a combination travel, food, drinks and tickets, you’re down a grand minimum. For the same money, you can op on a plane and be sipping a mohito on a beach in the Maldives. But you’re not. You’re in a basement in Scotland looking at me. His whole thing is an immersive experience in mental collapse.

Everybody here is in some way unhappy with their lot. The performers are duking it out so to get reviews, awards and recognitions. So they can get more television, more radio, more followers. It’s a constant chase, a desire to be laughed at and taken seriously at the same time. Look at the cavalcade of posters laden with quotes promising to be the funniest person who ever lived, but complimented by a picture of someone who looks like they’re about ready to ruin a dinner party.

Trauma has been the enduring trend of the festival for a few good years, minding the worst experiences of life for laughs and recognition. Audiences are here to pursue happiness just as much as we are. Drinking from two pint jugs at lunchtime and seeing nine comedy shows a day is well above the recommended units of both. I do this professionally five nights a week and can tell you that the same number of live comedy shows to see in a year is probably two nine in a day. Get some ill.

You aren’t going out for seven dinners tonight. Stop eating when you’re full. Garrett Milleric’s show is called Never Had It So Good. You’ll find Garrett at the monkey Barrel at the Tron. Mary O’Connell’s show is called Monkey Princess Yahoo says it’s a blessed antidote to the very modern and wholly deluded pandemic of absolute certainty.

She doesn’t pretend to have any of the answers and instead obsesses over life’s every day absurdities. You’ll find Mary at Pleasant Courtyard Bunker three. Geordo gave four stars to Dan Tiernan show and said the show isn’t like being trapped in a basement with a craze lunatic yelling in your face. That’s precisely what it is. Dan has a lot of issues.

He knows he looks a bit peculiar and rattles off one hilarious analogy after another, quickly moving away from celebrity lookalikes into odd but uncannily precise descriptions that become running jokes across the hour. There’s some element of freak show here, a sort of comes see the wild Man of Manchester rattling his cage danger to his intense delivery, which Tunin fully leans into four stars from Shortal. You’ll find tune In at Monkey Barrel Comedy Club. Gary mule Deer a relatively obscure comedian. I know his work from when I used to run the comedy channels at the satellite radio place many many years ago.

Gary does a pretty cool Johnny cash bit. Anyway, there’s a new documentary about him called show Business Is My Life, But I can’t prove it. A film about Gary mule Deer. Some of the people who are peering it Amy Grant, Alice Cooper, and David Letterman. Red Sanders is the producer and says, so often we as Americans look at the big A list celebrity names is like they’ve really do it.

But it was interesting to see someone who didn’t have the true limelight of an A list celebrity, but is still able to look back in his career where he got what he’s done and be happy with it.

And then on the flip side, how some of these A list celebrities look at Garre…

Questions Answered in This Episode

What soda commercial was Jim Gaffigan’s Super Bowl ad for?

Jim Gaffigan’s Super Bowl commercial featured him as an employee named Ted with a combed-over hairstyle being fired by his boss, though the transcript indicates confusion about whether it was for Sierra Mist or another soda.

Why did M. Night Shyamalan replace Jim Gaffigan in Lady in the Water?

Shyamalan recast the role after seeing Gaffigan in a commercial during the previews before his movie, not wanting the same actor appearing in ads before the film.

What is Leanne Morgan’s comedy background?

Leanne Morgan is a comedian from Appalachia who raised three children in Knoxville, Tennessee while pursuing comedy outside traditional clubs, and had four sitcom deals fall through before finding success.

Does Neil Brennan still do sad/emo comedy?

Neil Brennan said his new tour isn’t emo at all, and he now has to announce at the beginning of shows that he won’t be faking sadness for audiences expecting that brand.

Why are there fewer comedy movies in theaters?

Adam Devine theorizes that Marvel movies ruined theatrical comedies because audiences prefer spending money on expensive blockbusters rather than comedy films, reducing comedy releases from 45 per year to only 6-7.

What is the story behind Joe Lysatt’s Harry Styles portrait?

Joe Lysatt created a humorous parody painting of Harry Styles after the singer had his portrait painted by renowned artist David Hockney, joking that Styles’ management had asked him to paint Harry but he only spent 20 minutes on it while dealing with a broken fridge.

The Shark Deck. Leanne Morgan’s having a bit of a moment time Johnny Mac with Your Daily Comedy News. Leanne spoke to NPR about calling herself the missus Mazel of Appalachia. Leanne said, comedy is hard. It’s a hard business.

I resonated with that character because she was fearless and she had those babies and her husband was a ding dong. My husband’s not at ding dong. But she overcame so much and kept going, and men would say, oh, women aren’t funny, and all that kind of stuff and trying to sabotage her. I’ve been through all that. When young people ask me, do you think I should do stand up?

I don’t want to squash somebody’s dreams, but it’s hard for me as a mother not to say, listen, you’re going to be driving in a car for three hundred miles to make fifty dollars and you won’t have a hotel room. I mean, it’s a hard, hard business. When I saw that series, I thought that’s what I did. I had three babies, I was in the Appalachian Mountains. I didn’t have a comedy club near me, and I just had to pave out another way than the traditional way that people do stand up and I did.

I don’t know how I did, but I did. Leanne talked about four sitcom deals that fell through. She said, I’d be devastated at the time, but those little nuggets would give me the encouragement to keep going. For one thing, because I was in Knoxville, not living in LA or New York. I was raising these children.

I got to raise them in Knoxville, Tennessee, and they became who they’re supposed to be. If I’d gone to LA, they probably wouldn’t be who they are, and I’d be devastated when the series fell through. But then it always kept me encouraged, like I’ve got something. I know, I’m not crazy, I can do this. She ignored her ex husband when he advised her to get rid of her Tennessee accent.

Lean said her X said, your accent in your diction You need diction lessons. People are making fun of you. People think you’re stupid. And I remember at the time, I don’t know how I had the sense to think, now you’re wrong, and I didn’t change anything I could have. I had pretty low self esteem and I was pretty beaten down at the time, but I felt like, you’re not going to change me.

This is who I am. Either like it or you don’t. It’s okay if you don’t. A lot of Jim Gaffigan pressed this month. This one from Variety.

Jim was talking about when it was up for a role in m knights Chamalan’s two thousand and six Lady in the Water. Jim said, it came down to me and another guy, and the other guy got it. But a week later I got the call that Knight wanted to reshoot the scene and do it with Jim Gaffigan. It was just one day, but Jim was like, great, I’m gonna be in an m Night movie. So the story goes and he takes his kids to a movie and he saw commercial that Jim was in before the previews, and Jim said, I think Us for Sierra missed And he said, well, I can’t have the same guy being a commercial before my movie.

So they went back and swapped the other guy back in great story, Jim, do you really not remember what soda commercial you’re in? I’m pretty sure you know what soda commercial you were in. I don’t like when they play coy like that. I mean, seriously, is it for the other soda commercial you were in? Jim?

Jim’s ad ran during the Super Bowl? Okay, Jim, so let’s stop pretending. Oh, is it really? Was it the Sierra Missed Dandy? So Jim, come on, dude.

The Super Bowl ad. It features Jim Gaffigan with a long beer that’s combed over across his bald head. Gaffigan portrays an unruly employee named Ted who’s being fired by his boss because his decision making abilities are being reanalyzed due to his choice to wear a comb over a hairstyle. Jim’s quote again, I think it was for Sierra Missed Jim. It was a Super Bowl commercial.

You damn well know what it was for. Call me back, dude. Neil Brennan spoke to the LA Times and said, I don’t think I would have succeeded as much without the EMO stuff, But the brand new Neal tour isn’t emo at all. I have to make an announcement at the beginning of each show now because I did a show in DC a couple of months ago and a kid dm me and was like, dude, I was waiting for the whole show for the real you to arrive, and I wrote back, So you’re saying I wasn’t sad enough. So I have to tell people at the beginning of my set that if they need me to be sad, I have some horrible news.

Some people might want to see me be sad, but I’m not gonna fake it. Ali Wong had a sweet burn on me when I was doing my Block special. There was a five thirty show and an eight but no late show, and Ali said, you know why there’s no late show because all your fans are depressed enough to go to sleep early. Neil Brandon said comedy now has fewer gatekeepers and an almost infinite amount of gates in some ways, the YouTube algorithm and the Instagram algorithm and the bookers now, but it still favors the same stuff. It’s about having a sticky premise and memorable jokes.

You have to be way faster. People in my generation will release specials and it’s like, oh dude, all those premises were done six months ago, you know. Brandon talked about cancelation and said the only people get canceled, and they’re not even totally canceled, more like reduced. Were the people who did vaguely illegal sex things. No one has been hindered by the material.

Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan are both still doing arenas. I know like twelve people who do arenas, which is insane. Cancel culture is just a matter of eyeballs. If you get to Dave size or Joe size, there are so many eyeballs on you that someone’s gonna have a problem with you. You just have to hire more security guards.

I know that someone’s more likely to heckle you when there’s sixteen thousand people in an arena. Adam Devine was on Theo Vaughan’s podcast. He floated the notion that Marvel movies have destroyed Hollywood comedies. Divine said, you watch comedies nowadays and you’re like, this is not a comedy where the jokes where the bits. They’re still good comedy shows, but movie comedy, it’s hard.

My theory, I think Marvel ruined it. I feel like superhero movies ruined comedies because you go to a theater and you expect to watch something that cost two hundred million dollars to make, and comedy movies aren’t that. So you’re like, why would I spend the same amount of money to go watch a little comedy theater. If I could spend that and watch something that’s worth two hundred million dollars, and it’ll still make those movies kind of funny, like, oh my god, is it that a raccoon talking? That’s hilarious, which it is, but it’s not a real comedy, Divine said.

Every studio used to put out several comedies a year, and there were like forty five comedies in the theater per year. So every week or so, there’s a new comedy in the theaters. That last year there was like six or seven. It’s crazy. Joe Lysatt shared a joke portrait of Harry Styles and says Harry reached out to buy it immediately.

People magazine says back in twenty twenty two, Harry Styles had his portrait painted by famed artist David Hockney at the eighty six year old English painter Studio in Normandy, France. Apparently, Hockney once sold something for ninety million dollars, the most expensive work by living artist ever sold that auction at the time. Yikes. After Hackney’s portrait of Styles was revealed, Lysa drew a hilarious replic of the work, which features Harry Style sitting down on a chair in blue jeans, a red and yellow striped cardigan and a strand of pearls. Joe said on social media a few months ago, I was contacted by management for Harry Styles asking whether I would consider doing his portrait.

I didn’t really know of his celebrity at the time, so I said yes, but I wish I hadn’t because the whole thing’s been a disaster. He came to my home and sat for two days, and I only spent about twenty minutes on the picture in the end because I had an issue with my fridge freezer and added to frost and I realized there were some diced goat going off, so I made a curry. Joe said he thought he did a good job with the pick, but his management were quite cross and one of them said it’s Harry Styles, not Jeremy Beadle’s face with an egg. Harry just awkwardly kept saying was unhonored to meet me while not eating his curry. Joe that shared a social media exchange that supposedly is from Harry Style’s Instagram account, in which Harry supposedly writes, I think it’s incredibly important that I purchased this portrait from you.

If you’d ever consider parting with this masterpiece, I’d like to hang out my home immediately. Hope you’ve been well. H Joe says he’ll sell it for about ten bucks. Style’s account appears to respond with an offer of six British bands, which is around eight dollars. They eventually agreed that was a fair price.

Who Knows. Insider caught up with David Keckner talking about how some of David’s best known roles are very damaged people. David said, you can’t play them like you hate them. You must play them for whatever joy you think is happening. So my job is to show that this is the wrong behavior while you’re celebrating it away.

This is the wrong guy. They should not hold up as anything but a caustic, horrible individual. Keckner actually studied political science at the University of Missouri think he might become a politician and says, then I realized about the third year in oh, I’m not gonna make it because this is a different ballgame. I didn’t realize it’s about accumulating power and ego, so I was a bit disillusioned. He enjoys writing because there’s immediate feedback from the audience.

I just found a whole new twelve minutes because my daughters and I took a manatezee and dolphins tour in Naples, Florida, and who was not one manate see nor dolphin to be found. If you like what I do here, go to buy me a coffee dot com slash Daily Comedy News through a couple of bucks in the chip jar. I will take your money. I don’t buy coffee. The shark Deck Deadline with a big profile of Matt Rife. Hi, I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. The headline how comedian Matt Rife bulldoff stratospheric rise from pandemic era pickup truck stand up to a sold out global tour with live Nation deadline rights two months ago when Matt Rife announced his problematic world tour with a Live Nation, seems like Live Nations getting a lot of plugs In this one deadline, he moved around six hundred thousand tickets over the span of just forty eight hours, experiencing the culmination of twelve long years on the road. Remarkably, this was just the artist pre sale, with Rife ultimately going on to sell seven hundred and twenty thousand plus tickets to three hundred shows, including eight back to back at the Chicago Theater, six at Radio City Music Hall four, and Mohegan’s Son in Connecticut. Not bad.

Deadline points out Rife as recently as the summer prior, had struggled to sell even one hundred tickets a show. After COVID, Rife would double down by self financing and distributing his first pair of specialsch is the one of his TikTok clips that went viral and he began getting his name into the zeitgeist. Titled the Lazy Hero Rices, viral TikTok led him down the path to sixteen point three million followers and more than a billion global views on just that one platform. Matt Tell’s Deadline, it feels completely unreal, like half a dream come true and half of a one off. It feels like we’re going to be back in the back of my apartment complex in like six months trying to sell seventy tickets.

And I think that’s just because of how inconsistent the business is. We all got through jumps in our career that we’re like, oh, this is gonna be the thing. I’m gonna be fine from here on out. Then you have to start all over again. So it’s exciting, and I’m trying to remind myself to enjoy every moment.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that most people don’t get, so enjoy it, but work on maintaining it. Deadline said, we knew you were hitting the zeitgeist when you started getting reference on some of the bigger podcasts. Rife said, I don’t listen to or watch any podcasts at all except maybe Rogan. What’s funny is I do get a lot of text or dms from other comics or friends being like, hey, so and Sal’s talking about you on this thing. Did you hear?

And I’m like, nope, I don’t really care if it’s positive or negative. I’m sure it’s a strong mix of both. And I get a lot of really cool random calls, like Amy Schumer called me just to say she thinks I’m amazing and that she’s in my corner if I ever need advice or anything, which is so kind.

And then I’ll hear somebody’s talking crap on their podcast about how I don’t…

It’s nothing I haven’t heard for the past ten years living in La Deadline points out comedians often seem to be tough on those coming up, making you prove yourself before being invited into the club. Matt said, it’s a dream come true. You work so long in the industry for the respect of your peers. You want to be allowed to that elite group of comedian peers. So Chappelle Camp was kind of my first experience of that where he’s my idol.

There’s nobody I look up to and stand up more than Dave Chappelle. So for somebody like that’s offered me to not just perform with them, but enter his home, for him to be so hospitable and take care of my friends and my family and my girlfriend and be genuinely excited when I walk in a room, Like would walk into an afterparty, me and my girlfriend and would get up on a microphone and Dave would get up on a microphone and be like, Matt rives here, what’s up? Matt. He treated me like an equal rather than somebody who was mentoring, rather than somebody who he was put onto by somebody else, and he was just being cordial. He treated me like a real friend and colleague and gave me advice that I can only imagine was intended for me to someday reach his level and help navigate those trenches.

So I’ve just been so grateful and it’s exciting to be respected. Isn’t that cool? Chappelle sounds like an awesome guy. Never met Dave. Michelle Wolf talked to Westworld.

Michelle says, I don’t think there’s a good feminist. I think the best thing you can do is try to be the best version of yourself as a human. I’d be your authentic self.

Also, just embrace being a woman, embraced the women around you, and realized…

She talked about starting out in comedy. I moved to New York because I wanted to get a job that would make money to be perfectly honest, and Wall Street seemed like the place to do that. I got a job on Wall Street, and a few months later, in two thousand and eight, the market crashed and the company imploded, which I swear I had nothing to do with. Around that same time, I had signed up for an improv class, and I really liked the class. That whole world was crazy and angry, but improv was really fun.

I just loved doing it. I was trying to do it every night after working all day. Eventually I got an opportunity to work at this tech firm that would allow me to have a bit more free time at night, and that’s when I started doing stand up. It was slow and painful, because I really hate this pointing people was it very hard for me to do. It was a fantastic company, but I knew if they fired me, they’d give me a severance package.

I took advantage of them, which I don’t feel about corporations take advantage of people all the time. I was able to get severance, and with my savings, I was able to live and pursue comedy in New York for a year. Within that year, I got hired at Late Night with Seth Myers, which she says it’s a cerebral first job because they are the best bosses you’ll ever have. Late Night was wonderful because it’s a show that happens Monday through Thursday, which forced me to write jokes every day, even when I didn’t want to. It was also good because the jokes that wouldn’t work for seth monologue I could sometimes turn into stand up jokes for myself.

Seth was very encouraging me and continue to do stand up as much as I could, and it was the first time I’d really been on camera. Late Night just had a wonderful family atmosphere and really helped me become the comedian and performer I Am Today, Michelle says the Daily Show was interesting because at late night, we were starting from ground zero, but Trevor was trying to fit into a machine that was already working and trying to figure out what his version of the show was Seth was making his own show from the bottom up, so I got to participate in that. Then moving over to the Daily Show was a show that already existed for a long time with a brand new host. I think it was a bit of a struggle, but also fun because you’re trying to see what the voice of the new show is. I’m not sure Trevor actually got to do exactly what he wanted to do.

If they continue and pick a new host for the Daily Show, would be nice to see somebody with a really strong point of view take over and really make the show their own. It’s really hard with social media now because the Daily shows on at eleven thirty night and everybody’s already had to take on the news for the day, So you need someone who’s going to have something surprising to say at the end of the day that you haven’t heard or seen before. I hope that they find someone who is able to do that and breathe fresh life into the Daily Show. I think it’s a valuable piece of entertainment slash news. Both sides tend to be wrong and show news from a very biased perspective.

I’d love to see The Daily Show continue to point that out. Isn’t the Daily Show on at eleven? I’m not being difficult, but it’s on at eleven, right, And then the other thing was on at eleven thirty, wasn’t it? I don’t know. Salon talked to Jim Gaffigan about being the clean guy, and Jim said, the entertainment industry is perception.

In a lot of ways. You don’t have control over that. In a lot of ways, it’s not your business. I remember initially being resistant to being known as the clean comedian, just because the only adjective that really matters would stand up is funny. On special, I had five minutes on cancer and people were like, he’s still clean.

He talks about food. You don’t have control over what people will take away or what people will assign you. It’s a strange thing where I go with the flow. I’ve had numerous acting roles, yet with every acting project, people are always like, what’s it like to be an actor. These are intelligent people that I’ve seen my IMDb page.

But in their perception, I’m a guy who only tells jokes about food. Doesn’t bother me. And it’s not an indication of somebody not doing their research. It’s just the perception. If you enjoin you what I do here, Why don’t you pop on over to buy me acoffee dot com slash Daily Comedy News.

You can throw a couple of bucks in the tip jar. I’ll take your money, I will buy a coffee. I will send your name on the show. We all win. Buy me a coffee dot com slash Daily Comedy News.

Ali Sadiq talked about self releasing and owning his own material. He spoke with Salon and said, you know, I always wish that these were very complex things, like it was a bunch of real thought. I knew it with me. I posted a clip of me on Comedy Central on Instagram and I got flagged for copyright infringement. I was like, wait a minute, I can’t promote that I have this special on your network.

I can’t do that. Then with Instagram, you know what, if anybody you can call and say, hey, yo, this is me. With Facebook, it’s not a phone call, which is irritating that you can just say, this is actually my work, this is who I am. It’s like going to the tow truck place where they tell your car and you walk in. You’re like, hey, do you have a Burgundy Lexus in here?

And they say, how do we know it’s you, to which Ali says, Who’s going to be going around to random places asking for a Burgundy Lexus with all my stuff inside of it? At the Fringe, Christopher MacArthur Boyd’s show is called Scary Times. MacArthur Boyd beams knowingly on stage, says Yahoo like he’s about to confide in the world’s dirtiest secret. He not so much tells you a joke as accent out Like all the best comics, he exus the pale intimacy of a devilish, ey witty best mate. You’ll find him at Monkey Barrel Comedy at the Tron.

Mark Watson has poked fun at the debate surrounding comedians posting about their sports crowds at Edinburgh Fringe. The debate began when Georgie Greer shared a photo of herself crying after just one person showed up to her first performance, Watson poked fun at the whole thing. He posted an empty crowd at his own show, writing a bit of a disappointed crowd tonight, but we’ll have fun. Many believed he was being serious, but he was quick to point out the photo was taken twenty minutes before his show, which was actually sold out. Mark Watson played to three hundred strong.

He said, not everybody got the jokes. I should make it clear this was taken before the show. This was a joke that people horrifyingly took seriously. And that’s your comedy news for today. Follow the show for free on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

The Shark Deck. I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. Jim Gaffigan spoke to The Washington Post and point, I’ve been killing Jim for not calling us back at the radio station nearly twenty years ago. But Jim called people back when I help you. On a recent weeknight, Jim arrived at the Gotham Comedy Club to do an unannounced twenty two minutes set.

Says The Washington Post, it’s because he had just burned his latest material on that new special, Dark Pail. I haven’t seen it yet. At some point I will tell you what’s going on in my personal life, but I can’t watch that one right now. His wife Jeanie said, you know, once a special’s release, you can’t really do the same show because people are like, you know, we just saw that on TV. As part of that set, Haffigan opened up with a chunk about his children, and he said, I’m so grateful that I could do stand up comedy, but I do need you to know that my life at home is horrible.

It’s hell. He talks about discovering mid conversation at the child he’s speaking to he was leaving the room. He jokes about getting called fat and bald for merely suggesting a coat be worn and cold weather. He imagines telling his therapist about his children without mentioning that they’re indeed his children. He says, I live with these five people.

They eat all my food, they spend all my money, and when I asked them to do anything, they yell at me. Any therapists would be like, you should move out. Nice profile of Chris Astrada in Esquire. They say the day Chris Astrada’s life changed started like so many before. He was up early.

He was in the car, off to work at the warehouse shifts loading trucks. On this particular day in twenty nineteen, it was twelve thirty. He was on lunch break. He was in his car and a call came in from comedian producer Fred Ormison. Fred wanted to work with a Strata on a product that would become This Fool.

That’s the Hulu show loosely based on Estrada’s life. Ar Armiston said the call wasn’t immediate. Okay, let’s start, as opposed to okay, I need to know you. I didn’t need to Armiston said, I liked this haircut. He greased it back in a way that I think only people who grew up with a clash would know.

When the call was over, Strada bought a sandwich from a truck and went back to unpacking the boxes. He didn’t tell anybody, he says, nobody had time to hear your effing dream. We had worked to do these days, Astrada said. Financially, if I’m being honest, my life has changed. My buddy told me I should buy bitcoin, and I go, Dude, I barely understand real money.

Lean Morgan tells NPR it took me a long time to find my audience, but I always knew they were out there. I think Hollywood forgets us, and I think a lot of comedians that are cool and edgy and all that just forget about my demographic. And I think we’re the best. I think we’re the people that make decisions to go buy tickets and want to go out there and have a good time. On connecting to her audience, she says, I’m nurturing.

If I make funness of myself, it’s not of anybody else. I’m not confrontational. I think people find comfort with me. I was in La doing the comedy store, which was a dreamline. It was all these edgy comedians are getting out and talking about all kinds of stuff, And then I got up and talked about how somebody made me a meat loaf at my children’s school a day that I got my iud replaced.

Young people came out of the comedy store and said, can I hug you. In my mind, though I always had a chip on my shoulder, thinking, oh, I’m not edgy enough, I’m not a cool kid in the business, in the industry and all that. And I do think people were enjoying what I did. Jimmy Kimmel till the Las Vegas Weekly, It’s interesting how many comics don’t sit down and write jokes. If you really want to be a comic, sit down for two hours and write jokes.

If you have any whatsoever, you’re gonna come up with some good stuff. But you have to apply yourself. I had the benefit of being a disc jockey, so I had to fill five and a half hours every morning. Sometimes by myself. You wind up getting in the habit of working hard.

The Weekly asked him if you need thick skin to survive in the business. Kimbell said, I think you always did, but it’s become more personal. Now. We have a new phenomenon, which is people cursing you and your family and threatening you and criticizing you. Why are you laughing at that?

John? You do have to have some toughness, and you develop that as you experience it. But I do find that when people are new to it, it can be very hard for them. It’s not so hard for me anymore. I mostly just don’t look at any of it, but it’s hard not to look at the beginning.

All right, Kimmel, what keeps it going? You’ve been doing Jimmy Kimmel Alive for twenty years. Kimbell said, I’m not entirely sure I’d liked given the show. At the end of the day, writing the show all day is hard. It’s sometimes fun, but most of the time it’s not.

It’s a lot of nonsense I have to deal with that I’d rather not. But the end of the day, at four thirty pm, when I walk onto the stage, I want to make sure that I’m funny. That’s what drives me from seven in the morning when I wake up, till I drive home afterwards. If you enjoy what I do here, you can go to buy Meacoffee dot com slash Daily Comedy needs a couple options there they are. One of the options is the two dollar Club.

So what you do is you sign up for that and then every month, however the automation with your credit card happens and all that, it’ll send me two bucks, right, and then I’ll shout you out on the show for that. The most common thing is to throw five bucks in the tip jar, and I will take your five dollars and I’ll go to the National Donus chain. I’ll be like, hey, National Donus Shane employee, largeized coffee, caramel and milk, and I will get one. Then I will drink it and I will also thank you on the show. Buy Meacoffee dot com slash Daily Comedy News.

Yahoo took a look at the fringe. Sue’s Kemper show is called Y two K Woman. They say it’s endlessly inventive and bursting with creativity. Sue’s Kemper is at once extremely contemporary and a throwback to the golden age of variety. Whether it’s political satsire, musical comedy, acting impressions, or straight up stand up, she manages to excel at at all, with complete fearlessness.

You’ll find her at the Underbelly and Bristow Square. Is it Bristow Square or did an ll drop there and it’s Bristol Square? I should check? Why don’t I check? Yeah, it’s Bristow Square.

The Underbelly is a venue at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival off Cowgate. The Only Times asked comedians about artificial intelligence AI comedy. Rosebud Baker said, I heard one AI thing where Tom Brady’s voice was doing stand up about himself and it was hilarious in a way that really concerned me. On the other hand, it makes all these specials with comedians crying at the end make a lot more sense. Brad Williams said, I wrote in a chat GPT, write me a joke about cancel culture.

It responded, my toaster got canceled from making the toast too black, Brad ads, So for now the human’s job is safe. Matthew Brissard said writing jokes will be one of the very last task AI will be able to do convincingly and effectively, meeting against all logic, I chose the career with the most stability. John Pavaromo, host of The Dystopia Tonight podcast had a good take. He said, since AI can’t create on the spot, but only glean from information that already exists. In comedy, we have that already, we call them hacks.

And in the same way a skilled comic can blow a hack off the stage, I’ve no doubt in a live setting that do the same to anything, and AI can generate. However, as we’ve seen a ready, when it comes to TikTok and reels, us don’t always equal talent. Amen Ahmed Ahmed said, AI and comedies like eating processed foods. It’s just simply not good for you. And no one wants to digest computer generated humor.

It’s not authentic and lacks timing, which is what comedy’s all about. And all right, button up for this one from The Daily Mail. Australian comedian Benjamin Frenchy French shocks audience as he sucks a woman’s foot in front of her husband during a live show. Do I have your attention now? Yes?

I do so? Frenchy French is there on the stage and he asked a young woman when she does for work. Tara was at the show where her mother and her father and told Frenchy she works in a shoe shop. Frenchy asked Tara’s mom, hey, is that where you got your fresh kicks? Use saucy minks, and then added, you ever have your foot sucked on?

Mom said maybe? Why are you offering? French She was taken back as he challenged her. I knew you were a spunky woman. I’ll suck your feet.

Don’t think I won’t. Mom took off her shoes. Frenchie goes, hell, wait is this your husband? Is it okay if I suck her feet? Dad went, yeah, mate, go for it.

He did it, and then he joked I went four toes deep on that one. Then Mom admitted she hadn’t washed her feet in a week. Friend, she said, you haven’t washed your feet in a week? What yell at the dead? Wash your feet?

The Shark Deck. We want to start today. I’m Johnny Mac with your Daily Comedy News. My former co worker Jamie Fox has apologized for an Instagram post that was perceived as being anti Semitic. The post has been deleted, but in aunt, Fox wrote, they killed this dude named Jesus.

What do you think they’ll do to you? Hashtag fake friends, hashtag fake love. Fox as a new post on Instagram that says, I want to apologize to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post. I now know my choice of words have caused offense, and I’m sorry. That was never my intent.

To clarify, I was betrayed by a fake friend and that’s when I met with they, not anything more. I only have love in my heart for everyone I love in Sport, the Jewish community. My deepest apologies to anyone who’s offended. Nothing but love always, Jamie Fox. Ron White tells The Statesman that Jeff Foxworthy is a prince.

He helped me out when I was at my lowest. I started a pottery factory in Mexico when I was with a crazy woman and I thought I’d never be solvent again. Jeff pulled me out of that and hired me as his opener. He turned my life around. He’s a great guy and he’s also hilarious.

The Washington Post profile Jim Gaffigan, who’s done a lot of press this month, and they quoted Jerry Seinfeld, who said clean. I know that term. I don’t think it means much. I mean, in the comedy world, it’s is this guy funny? Nobody goes is he clean?

Gaffigan was working out some material at Gotham. In the bit, he referenced his thirteen year old daughter, Maria, except he doesn’t have a thirteen year old daughter named Maria. Washington Post says it offers a window into a shifting Gaffigans thinking how to fit his real family into the family material he’s become famous for. There was a time when he’d welcome a TV crew in to the kitchen, rememurdering the pandemic. They’re doing dinner with the Gaffigans.

That was super popular. He says his family became TikTok famous, but they wanted to be YouTube famous, and I’m thinking, oh, yeah, that sounds good.

And then he thought about it some more and realized it was a terrible idea.

Jeannie Gaffigan said, at a certain point, our oldest daughter was like, I just don’t want to be on camera anymore. And we realized, oh wait, these aren’t actors. There are children from the profile. Gaffic and records every performance on his phone and we’ll listen back hearing where a line fell, flad took off, or could use a nudge. Then he screwed.

Ted Alexandro has been opening for Gaffigan for years and said that’s the work ethic that separates the great comedians from the good comedians, arriving at the theater two hours early so they can work over not just one week, one month, one year, you know, thirty years. Seinfeld said, I’ve been a comedian for forty seven years, and over that time, I’ve worked with hundreds and hundreds of comedians, and I would say ninety nine percent of them are not doing comedy anymore. The number one reason is how difficult it is to sustain this profession over many, many years. And the reason that some sustain it and some don’t. You might think it has to do with how funny they are, but it actually isn’t.

It’s that there are people that are so committed to it. They’re so in love with it, and they’re so dedicated. We’re obsessed with it. We don’t even think about anything else. Eddie zazard Is announced on social media that she’s hoping to stand as a Member of Parliaments at the UK’s next general election.

Susie Eddie Azzard said on her website she’s standing to be selected as the opposition Labor Parties candidate for the Brighton Pavilion seats in southeast England to support this brilliant city and its diverse and vibrant community. If elected, she would increase funding and resources for schools, promote eco friendly transportation, work to secure we’re funding and housing infrastructure, champion mental health services and build stronger ties between law enforcement and local communities. She added it will take practical action, not protest, to fix what’s broken and to win the seat, Labor needs a candidate that can inspire many thousands to become her friends and allies in the fight for a fairer, greener, cleaner planet. Tim Hidecker talked about mixing comedy and rock on his two Tim’s tour. The San Antonio Current asked him how he reacts in real life when somebody says, hey, Tim, say something funny.

Tim says, I say something like, oh, you gotta pay me, or that’s my job. I don’t give it away. And that’s usually enough of a joke to move things along. So the current said, oh, can you say something funny now? Tim answered, no, I’m an unassuming guy.

It’s funny. You go to the pta things and the family functions and stuff at school, and I keep it pretty dry. I like the people don’t know who I am. But I did pull this movie star move where all the kids were going to a Dodger’s game. They were going to walk around the field for a Little League day and I wrote to Justin Turner, who’s my daughter’s favorite player of the team.

I wrote them on Twitter and I said, Hey, we’re gonna be walking around on the field. He said, I’ll come over and say hi. He saw me and said hi to my daughter, and the other parents were like, who the hell’s that guy? All right? Tim, who’s the most difficult heckler you’ve had and had to deal with it?

Tim said, there’s a lot my character that I do as a stand up character, as this sort of shield where I can be very brutal with an audience member, and it’s in the guise of this character, so I can kind of get away with really giving people the business. We were doing a series of warm up shows for this tour and there was a woman on her phone. The life on the phone was distracting because it was a pretty small room. I asked her to put the phone away and she’s like, I can’t, I’m dealing with something right now. And I was like, get the f out of here, right now, get the f out, and I kicked her the f out and everyone clapped.

She went to the box office and was very upset that she was going to contact my booking agent and complain. Go for it. My booking agent’s gonna love to hear that. I’m gonna set the terms of how this is gonna go. I don’t mind hecklers, but you know, I had a guy when we were in England.

I was doing a show in Manchester. During the music portion, we do this thing where we kind of do a little dance on stage, like a Springsteen Courtney Cox thing. He was happy to be up there and was St Patrick’s day. I think he was a little drunk. I’m changing the word he used.

He was motioning with me up there. He was coming up and ramming me, and I gave him a look like no, that’s not what we’re doing here, and then he did it again and knocked me over. At that point, my tour manager came and g I’m out of there. But yeah, it’s an active shooter situation every night. You know, if you enjoy what I do here, you can buy me a coffee, because sometimes I record a bunch of podcasts back to back like this one, and my voice starts to go, and you want me well hydrated, don’t shows, so go to buy me a coffee.

Dot com slash Daily Comedy News. Throw a couple bucks in the tip Joe, and maybe I’ll remember to come down the studio with something a drink so I don’t blow out my throat recording knees. Hopefully Zorna Garg is paying attention to good hydration, because Zorna has started a podcast on the heels of her Amazon Prime special One in a Billion. Garg was recently picked as one of Variety’s ten Comics to Watch her twenty twenty three. Her new podcast is called The Zorna Garg Show.

It features conversations with her multi generation Indian American family, and she describes it as bringing taboo topics out of the open. On the first episode, She’s Got her husband and her three kids who are twenty, seventeen and eleven. That episode is called the Sex Talk and features the family discussing the previously off limits issue in frank terms. Garg is a lawyer and homemaker turned screenwriter and comedian. She first gained recognition through her TikTok posts and first stand of performances at places like The Comedy Seller and Carolines on Broadway.

She said, I was a stay at home mom for sixteen years when I realized I’m not really into it. Yahoo profiled some shows at the Fringe Stuart McPherson shows called Love That for Me, and they say McPherson is by no means a ratitsat one liner comic in the mold of say Alan Carr or Gary Delaney, but for such a skilled recontori as a remarkable hit rate of gags. He’s at Monkey Barrel Comedy. The rob Outon Show stars rob Outon. Rob is like a one hundred year old man with the curiosity of a child and the face of a Panini sticker from the seventies.

I saw a press release from cell phone company that can afford to pay for the ad Jim Gaffigan will start in the ad for cell phone Company. The cell phone company has recently released new discounted family plans, which Jim Gaffigan, you know, kind of plays into with his whole family dad kind of thing he’s been doing lately.

A suit at the cell Phone Company said, Jim’s comedy and work ethic embodies who our customer is. Observant, hardworking, a little bit skeptical and something that might seem too good to be true, and loves to talk about their family. But ironically, Jim has been known not to call people back who help him early in his career. Maybe he had the wrong cell phone plan out. Now it all makes sense.

If only Jim had been with this cell phone company, he would have returned some calls to a satellite radio company that I had helped him a lot in the early aughts. No, yes, Hi Jim. In a statement, Jim Gaffkin said, cell phone company makes life easier and simpler for people with large families like mine, where people with lots of friends. If feel like family or you know people who help my career, I could call them back to the commercials we made inside a large chain store where hilarious. Working with cell phone company was fun, and joining them on a campaign that helps people save more money is the cherry on top.

The Shark Deck. Hello Johnny Mac with your daily commenty Hews, listen to this one, Leslie David Baker. You’re like, who’s that Stanley from the Office. Now you know who I’m talking about? Right, Well, he’s announced he’s giving back more than one hundred thousand dollars in crowdfunding money to fans who had supported his efforts to make a TV spinoff sort of based on the character.

You know. I’m sure in a legally distinct way, the character would have been called Uncle Stan, who would have more or less been Stanley from the Office. Uncle Stan would have centered on a retired guy named Stanley who was recruited by his nephew to help watch his two kids and run his motorcycle slash flower shop. The initial goal of the kickstarter was three hundred thousand dollars. Baker posted, we apologize about the delay in updates.

We’ve been working behind the scenes to get everything on track and rewards fulfilled. We are just as excited as all of you to get this project out and truly appreciate all your patients and support. The project took longer than anticipated due to circumstances beyond our control. The initial delays were called by the COVID lockdowns. Baker said he still has every intention to make the show, but the ongoing writers and actors strike has put another wrench in things now, leading to the series quote to be on hold indefinitely until an arrangement is reached.

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to refund our backers. All right, that’s pretty cool. He’s are short donors. They’ll still receive the campaign’s promotional awards. Baker adds, in light of the current economic situation, we felt this was the best course of action.

You’ll receive a message notifying you of your refund as soon as it’s issued, and you can expect receive it over the following weeks. Whilst be contacting Kickstarter to facilitate expediting this matter, we remained in constant communication with our backers via direct messaging, and rewards have continued to be filled during this time. The v Club said there was another idea that he had called Stanley Nichols, which was a cryptocurrency he rolled out in twenty twenty one.

Who knows The Press Democrat spoke to Nick Kroll, who was in Nappa last week. He encountered the Napple pedal crusher, party bike, and a dog and a vest. He made fun of all that on Instagram. On Instagram, Kroll did his big mouth character Lola and play acted as a Napa Valley tourist getting absolutely hammered while driving a collective bike. Later in the week, role posted another Instagram of his driving escapades, doing Lola’s voice again to explain how he wants to drink Chardonnay with a dog and a vest.

He added, that’s Napa Baby. Get Real. Iglesias is on Craig Ferguson’s podcast. I listened to that on Saturday and enjoyed it a lot. Fluffy was up at the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York, and he cut the ribbon on a new display featuring the Jersey he War during his record breaking sold out performance at Dodger Stadium in twenty twenty two.

Gleasia said he was honored to be part of the center. Yeah, it’s been twenty six years. When I started, I had hair, hope, happiness, a house. I had all those things. Now we’re here.

But thank you very much. I hope everybody continues to come out and support this because it’s incredible, especially in a time now where censorship for some reasons becoming a thing again. I think it’s supporting the sea where it was, where it goes, and what it could be. Joel Mchal and Beck Bennett are starring in a new TV movie It’s going to be a Comedy Central. Office Race also stars Kelsey Grammer, Alison Hannigan, and JB. Smooth. It was filmed before all the various strikes. Bennett’s Pat is a pushover who coast aimlessly through life until he’s got in into running a marathon, as soon discovers his love for the sport.

Meanwhile, the gilded balloon pattern Who’s you’ll find Bishops?

The description here seemingly influenced by everyone from Samuel Beckett to Scooby Doo. Sentence you known’t often say. Bishops are such a knowing meta theatrical example of a fringe sketch act that their debut features them being reviewed and accepting an award. With layers built upon layers and constant rub pulls. Chris Kurrn and Noah Matthews don’t lack ambition for the form, but it’s all done with an enjoyably light touch, and they avoid pretentiousness thanks to their instinctive goofiness.

Every it involves them cheekily peeping out from behind the mass of their characters, maintaining a running commentary on the success or otherwise of the conceit that sounds like a lot of fun. Bishops is the name of that show.

The Shark Deck. I’m Johnny Man with your Daily Comedy News salon. Talk to Jim Gaffigan. Doing a lot of press lately, Jim, I still haven’t seen that, especially at my personal life has been crazy. I’ll got Jim at some point.

Jim, in especially you talk about death funerals and some really dark stuff. What’s it been like going back out there for this particular special, Jim said, The audience has obviously gone through the same stuff. We’ve all had this emotional development where we wanted to talk about the pandemic. Didn’t want to hear about the pandemic. We’re frightening of it coming back.

We all occasionally will hear about somebody getting COVID and you’re like, wait, wait, wait a minute, we have PTSD. We’ve all lost someone, whether it’s through the pandemic or just in everyday life. I feel as though there’s a maturity there. Initially, people just extatic to get out. My relationship with audiences is there’s the value of time.

My ticket prices aren’t that high anyway, but if people are giving me two hours on a Friday night, it better be worth those two hours, because we don’t have time. When people walk out. I definitely want them to be like, all right, that was worth it, because I’m the same way when I’m disappointed by a movie, it’s not there was fourteen or sixteen bucks, it’s that, oh man, it was my night. They asked Jim what story he wanted to tell in this particular special, and Jim said, some of it is the nihilism that’s pervasive, and maybe it’s necessary for how we process today, but we have to acknowledge some of the cass that exists and the fear that exists. Were not a little bit cynical.

We’re living in a little bit of denial, and that’s where I see the world in apparel way my comedy specials, my children were younger, and now three fifths of them are teenagers. And it’s a nightmare. Do you know what I mean? It’s really hard when you have young kids. Either.

People don’t tell you how order it is with teenagers. You don’t hear it because changing a diaper’s like a cakewalk compared to waiting for a teenager to come home on a Saturday night. Tim Heidecker is touring. He’s doing a two parts show. The first part is comedy, then he does music, and he caught up with the San Antario Current, who asked him how they decide that the music is the second half, Tim said, the stand up character works great as an opening act because he’s such a failure.

It’d be funny if this guy was real and flopped in front of a band. Even though he’s a terrible stand up comedian. He’s very popular in that room that night because the audience that’s there to see the show loves the character. You go see a show and you get what you want right away. There’s something about that.

It’s not like you got to slock through three bands. The persona is described does no more bs. On the other hand, the band is called the Very Good Band. Tim said, it’s funny because it does seem like I’m being ironic or sarcastic with the name of the band, but it’s quite literal. They’re surprisingly good.

That’s one of the reactions we get. Dude, your band’s really good at that happen. Well, I got lucky and I like good music, so I’m happy every night to play with these people. The first half is sort of steeped in sarcasm and irony, meta comedy, nothing is real and then the shift happens where it does take a little bit of time to know what’s going on, but about halfway through the music set, there’s a sense of, oh, this is a rock show. This isn’t a joke, doesn’t mean we can’t have fun.

I don’t try to make you laughter out. It’s kind of my natural instinct to be funny and to keep the energy lighting fun. I don’t want to turn in this MOPI emo rock weirdo. I play funny songs and everything I try to make the whole night. I feel like, wow, that was a whole range of emotions.

There’s a feeling of I laugh that I cried old fashioned showbizz stuff. Every year, Forbes makes a fifty over fifty list, which recognizes fifty dynamic female leaders and entrepreneurs. Congratulations to Lean Morgan, who made this year’s list. Lean was recognized in the Lifestyle category, the other categories and know You’re Curious or Impact in avan and investment the three eyes This being me l I guess. Forbes says members on this list aren’t just publishing books, making music, selling food, They’re shaping our culture.

Other winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Katie couric Lean’s held out. She found out. She said, as I was sitting at my kitchen table this morning writing my book What in the World Plug, I got a notification that truly made me say, what in the world plug? Forbes fifty over fifty is always something I would look at and think, look at all these amazing women. Never in a million years that I think I’d be one of them.

And she got a book plug in there twice. Spam a Loot is coming back. Spam a Loot first open I feel so old on Broadway in two thousand and five. I saw that in previews. Was it really that long ago?

Boy? Twenty years goes by quickly? You know, Spam a Loot Mounty Python thing. If for you listen to this podcast, you probably know what spam a Loot is. I won’t tell you.

It returns to Broadway November sixteenth. Previews beginning on Halloween. Monty Python co creator Eric Idol gave some coldage, which is I’m thrilled to see Spam a Loot back on Broadway. More than effort. Seems we need a good laugh and it’s inspiring to the audience is still embracing this.

The most happy of shows I’ve ever worked on. So put the news cycle on wrinse cycle. Take a couple hours to relax with the lady of the late King Arthur and the Knights who say knee because we’re not dead yet. Who crafted that? I’ve seen in Spamlon on Broadway twice and I’ve seen a regional production of it.

Great show, Go see it. Another show I want to see and I’m so excited for this, The Shark is Broken. My daughter texted me was like, Hey, do you have any interest in this? I was like, yes, do you know what this is? I will reach you from their website.

Fade in the Open Ocean nineteen seventy four, filming is delayed again. The lead actors, theater veteran Robert Shaw and young Hollywood hot shots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider are crammed into a two small boat entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical coastar. Alcohol flows, eagles collide, tampers, flair, and a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic if it doesn’t sink them all. It’s The Shark is Broken, a profound dive behind the scenes of the making of Jaws. The Daily Telegraph gave it four stars.

Alex Brightman is the dude from Beetle Juice, which was differently fantastic, so I’m looking forward to this. We are told short tempers, short circuits, ninety minutes, no intermission, perfect. The Shark Deck. I’m johnny Man with your Daily Comedy News. Tom Sigurd Tell’s Rolling Stone. There are some people who are really good at podcasts. There are skill sets involved in this.

I think it’s amazing when someone can do an entertaining podcast alone. I tip my ad off to them. Thanks. Tom. Bill Burke could do that.

Tim Dillon could do that. Theo Van could do that. You could tell who wants to be a comedy philosopher and doesn’t have the intellectual substance to do it well, But everybody else can tell too. Ali Sadik spoke to Salon and said, you know, you don’t make money off the special. They pay you to do a special and they shoot at X, Y and Z.

Your special is to push ticket sales for people who come see you and then seal your legacy in the game that you were solidified as a comic. If you got the bread, why not just do it yourself and send it straight to the people and then still the goals for people to come see you. So he’s doing his own specials and says with Domino Effect, we got nine million with this new one. We’re on the verge of it going towards ten million with that one. Hopefully, I think I’ve reached a level now that I’m cementing what I want to be in this game.

I’ve always wanted to be judged on comedy content, not any thing outside of the craft. I don’t want people to say that I’m a good comic or a great comic or this type of comic because I was in a movie, because I was on a sitcom, or was on some other show. There’s nothing to do with stand up. I want to be known for comedy, not anything outside of that. For somebody to say that I’m a great comic because of comedy.

So it was asked, all right, what if an Exact shows up and goes would you do a special with us for thirty million dollars? His answer interesting, Netflix, HBO their viewership versus what I can produce on my own. I beat everybody. Somebody comes to me with thirty million, it’s still going to be a conversation about ownership because you’re giving me thirty million with the hope that you make two hundred million. I don’t think you’d be giving me that thirty million with the whole thing we got to make twenty eight million, or were we gonna make thirty five million.

You’re not splitting your power with me like that. What’s your end goal? Where’s the material? Lie? Who does it rest with at the end of the day.

I think that’s why I’m so big on the legacy of my particular family and the ownership of having my children be able to license my work over somebody else owning it. He says, I think being rich, I’m straight now, I’m not thirty million straight, but I’m telling you it’ll be hard. You’d have to kidnap my children and hold them for ransom. A man come to a set in Cincinnati. We got your son.

We’re gonna release your son after your set. I’m on stage will and Attitude. Twice a year they kicked out my son for me to come to a show. This is a bs. How much longer do I have?

Mike Kaplan is at the Fringe and was asked what he thinks of the English accent, and he ponderous and says, I’m indeed always happy to hear people speak my language in ways that make me wonder are they speaking my language? I love that y’all say maths like it’s plural compared to the way we call it math. In the States, you’re more advanced than we are. We only have one math, whereas you have at least two and possibly up to infinity. Virdas caught up with Forbes who asked about his new tour, and vir said, yeah.

The tour is called Mind Fool and it’s about not having control over your mind. How there’s a complete disconnect between what I’m supposed to do and what my mind forces me to do, and also about to struggle to find out what’s real. Those are the broad themes. I do material about the world in the first forty minutes and then get more personal in the final forty. There’s everything from visits to police stations to first sex.

We’re going to do thirty two countries. We consciously decided to level up. So I’m going to play Carnegie Hall for the first time. I think I might be the first Indian comedian I ever play there. I’m going to do the Chicago Theater, Kennedy Center, to Buy Opera House, the Sydney Opera House, the Hammersmith at Bollow in London.

It’s the dream list of the most iconic venues that I made ten years ago. That’s an impressive list. Which one are you looking forward to in particular? He said, straight up Carnegie all I saw George Carlin special there. Robin Williams is as well.

I know it’s not a room that does a lot of stand up, but it represents a lot of global appeal and it’s just beautiful to look at. So you’re at McDonald’s and you get your bag and you open your bag, you want to grab a couple of fries or something, and there’s five thousand dollars in it. Yeah, this happened at one guy. Hi, I’m Johnny Mac, host of five Good News Stories. He gave the money back.

Don’t worry if you want to start your day with a smile twice a week, I’ve got five good news stories for you. For example, there’s an airline for dogs. Or what about the woman in her eighties who just released her debut album. How about the dude who found one hundred and fifty corn on the cobs under his floorboards? Is corn on the cobs?

Comedian Rosie Jones is tearing up as she defends her new show title, which is am I a our word, A word that has fallen out of fashion? I won’t say it here. Jones has several palsy and is releasing her personal documentary in which viewers can follow the thirty three year old as she sets out to understand how prevalent disability trolling is in the UK. One unimpressed Twitter user wrote, regarding Rosie Jones’s documentary, no, f no, you do not reclaim such a word. You are not doing us a favor.

Shame on you. Jones told BBC Radio four, I’ve had several palsy for thirty three years, and that means going through school, walking down the road, and now having a public platform on social media. I get to experience that word used at me as a weapon. Nearly every day somewhere I will hear it. And you saw me coming today with headphones because I don’t walk down the street without wearing headphones to protect myself from hearing that word or able as slurs.

So I know it’s controversial, but I needed to use that specific word in the title of the documentary to start the conversation around slurs and ableism. It’s my opinion that it’s not taken as seriously as other slurs. She says that it hasn’t been the easiest few weeks because having criticism that comes from within your own community hits harder. I can only tell the story of what it’s like to be a woman with several palsy, and unfortunately that means the art word is used against me a lot of the time, and I don’t think the abusers care if it’s a word associated with me or people with intellectual disabilities. It isn’t my word, no, but also it isn’t their word, and it’s no one’s word.

But the truth of matter is it’s a word that’s still heard use casually in schools and pubs and in the street. I think by using it the title, I’m in no way encouraging people to use it, and in the same breath, I’m in no way trying to reclaim it. I’m highlighting it. It’s a word that still used casually and it needs to stop. That’s your commedy news for today.

Questions Answered in This Episode

Why does Jim Gaffigan do clean comedy?

Gaffigan said it wasn’t a grand scheme, but rather organic to him from growing up in the Midwest where people rarely curse. When he started doing late night shows that required removing cursing anyway, it became easier to think up clean options rather than change his material.

What did Neal Brennan say about booking podcast guests?

Brennan expressed that booking guests feels humiliating because he expected people to want to appear on his podcast after releasing a special, but realized no one is eager to do podcasts. David Spade called podcasting ‘jury duty,’ which Brennan felt was an apt description.

Did Jack Whitehall’s Netflix pub show get made?

No, the Netflix show called ‘Jack’s Pub’ was not picked up. The pub in Notting Hill had a quiet night opening before cameras could roll, and it’s unclear if Whitehall will continue his investment in the venue.

What happened to Ryan Hamilton on January 1, 2022?

Ryan Hamilton was struck by a bus at LAX while walking to get a rental car, breaking 10 ribs, puncturing a lung, and pushing an armbone through his skin. Despite the severity, he has recovered and now opens for Jerry Seinfeld.

How did Ryan Hamilton get his start in comedy?

Growing up in tiny Ashton, Idaho, Hamilton wrote humor columns for newspapers at age 10, worked covering sports for an NBC affiliate at 15, and made his comedy debut at a club in Provo in 2000 after calling on a whim.

What is Jack Whitehall’s new Netflix special about?

Whitehall’s special, recorded over three nights at London’s O2 Arena in July, features his reflections on becoming a father, his private school alumni status, and his life in Los Angeles.

The Shark Deck, Hello Jennymack with your Daily Comedy News Variety talked to Jim Gaffigan. He was explaining the whole clean comedian thing and said it wasn’t some grand scheme. I’m not reinforcing values. I come from a small town in the Midwest, where you only curse if you’re in a car accident. You’re just stubbed your toe.

You’re not cursing when you’re talking about donuts. He reflected on working in advertising and watching people with better vocabularies than him cursing NonStop and said I wasn’t offended, but I didn’t understand why it wasn’t organic to me. And when he started doing late night shows, he had remove cursing anyway, So, as I wrote, it became easier to think up an option rather than worry about changing it. Later. The La Times talked to Neil Brennan, who says, I love doing podcasts, but booking them with such utter humiliation.

The plan was to release the block special and then people would be banging down the door to get on my podcast. But no one’s ever going to bang down the door for a podcast ever. David Spade once called podcast jury duty, and I guess that’s the right way to think of it. Having said that, Letterman was the first guest, so that helped legitimize it. The British Comedy Guide it sells us.

Jack Whitehall has recorded his Settled Down Tour for a Netflix special. He filmed it over three nights at the O two Arena in London July fourteenth through the sixteenth, featuring Whitehall’s reflections on imminently becoming a father being a famous alumnus of his private school as its reputation was direct through the Meyern hanging out in la The show is the first stand up special to be produced by Whitehall’s Jackpot Productions, and it’s his third for Netflix. Netflix has not picked up a show called Jack’s Pub. The show would have followed Whitehall’s investment in a Brewer Friends drinking establishment notting Hill in London. However, the quiet Night in open before cameras could start rolling.

It’s not known whether Whitehall will still put money into the venue. From the Desert News, Ryan Hamilton’s definitely not from Canada. Everyone knows he grew up in Ashton, Idaho, a town with one stoplight and sixty three students. In Hamilton’s graduating class. Ryan said, when you’re from a small town, there are advantages.

You could do whatever you want because nobody else is going to so this room for you. He started writing two humor columns a week, one for each newspaper ten dollars apiece. Soon, the NBC affiliate and Idaho Falls heard about the columns and asked him if he wanted to help cover sports. So when he was fifteen, having had an Idaho driver’s license for a full year, what is the ancient Idaho really fourteen? Yeah, he drove around the state filming games, editing the reels, writing copy and slipping in some jokes for the sportscaster right on the air.

And the spring of two thousand, on the day he took his final he called Johnny b his comedy club in Provo and asked if he could get on stage. They told him sure, come Friday. He didn’t tell any friends or family. I just wanted it to be my own thing. He made up an excuse to go to la He showed up to one meeting in a suit and sign was horrified to find everybody else dressed casually.

He said, I was very, very green. I didn’t know how to handle the business at all. He went for a TV pilot, didn’t happen. He decided to give comedy one more year. Than one year turn into several years.

Hamilton said it put a lot of pressure on me starting to get corporate gigs which paid better than one night. ER’s his broad, observational comedy’s a good fit for corporate work. He says, I’m very approachable and I’m not going to offend anybody. He then entered and won Sierra misss America’s Next Green Comic in two thousand and five. He made it to the Semis of Last Comic Standing in two thousand and seven.

Then he did live at Gotham. He met Amy Schumer, who said to him, I’m Amy, and you’re going to move here. So he hit New York City and said I couldn’t get on stage. Even though he had TV appearances and multiple competition titles, he hadn’t proved himself as a New York comedian. So he spent five years traveling from New York to other cities to perform Wow, What a Road.

Twenty twenty was going to be the big year. He had lunch with Jerry Seinfeld in March eighteenth. By the end of that week, the world had shut down and all of Hamilton’s bookings were postponed. On January first, twenty twenty two, he walked to lax at one thirty in the morning to get a rental car. He said, I hit a button, I watched the light turn, I started walking.

I didn’t see here anything. I just felt the impact. A bus had struck Ryan Hamilton, breaking ten out of his ribs, puncturing a lung and pushing an armbone through his skin. He says it was pretty gruesome. I was so scared.

I didn’t think my body would work again. These days, he opens for Jerry Seinfeld at the Beacon Theater. He’s booked through the spring of twenty four and he said, I wanted my accident to be a tragedy, you know, but it’s pretty funny. Really, it’s a comedy. Hi.
